Tabung Haji honours 385 Sahabat Maktab volunteers
Comprising Malaysian pilgrims from seven residential buildings or maktabs, the volunteers were honoured at a ceremony held at TH's headquarters at the Abraj Janadriyah Hotel, here, today.
Head of the Haj Delegation Mohd Hisham Harun, said that TH deeply appreciated the contributions of the Sahabat Maktab volunteers, who came from diverse backgrounds, in supporting the work of approximately 632 TH personnel to ensure the smooth implementation of haj operations for Malaysian pilgrims, especially during the critical Masyair phase.
'The service and dedication shown by Sahabat Maktab volunteers are deeply meaningful to Tabung Haji, as they are closer to the pilgrims and better understand their needs and aspirations.
'Today, we honour and appreciate their sacrifices. TH is truly proud and thankful for their sincere contributions throughout this haj season,' he told reporters, here, today.
Established in 2006, the Sahabat Maktab is divided into three categories - Sahabat Ibadat TH, Sahabat Medik TH, and Sahabat TH - and provides a platform for skilled pilgrims to assist fellow Malaysians, in need of support during haj pilgrimage season.

DOE, Labuan Corporation and Marine Dept investigate oil spill at Marina Jetty

LABUAN: An investigation has been launched into the oil spill incident at the Labuan Public Marine Jetty to identify the parties responsible. The Department of Environment (DOE), in a statement to Bernama today, said the investigation would involve Labuan Corporation and the Marine Department. The incident was first reported to the DOE office in Labuan on Aug 14, and enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the site for inspection at 2.30 pm the same day. The DOE enforcement officers discovered oil waste patches estimated between 500 to 1,000 litres accumulated along the jetty and sticking to boats. 'Samples of the oil waste were collected and have been sent to the Chemistry Department for of no compound issued to any parties,' it said. It added that an immediate action notice was issued to the jetty operator, and clean-up operations were carried out by the Petroleum Industry of Malaysia Mutual Aid Group (PIMMAG). The DOE confirmed that it is working closely with the Marine Department, Labuan Corporation, and Labuan Port Authority in managing the case. The department reminded the public that discharging oil into Malaysian waters without a licence is an offence under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and stern legal action will be taken against those found responsible. The department also reaffirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring and strict enforcement to safeguard Labuan's marine environment. Youth group hands out 350 flags
Shared pride: Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam Johor Baru Youth distributing national flags to buskers in the city centre. JOHOR BARU: With the Jalur Gemilang held high and proudly waved, a youth group here has taken upon itself to spread patriotism by distributing 350 national flags to the public in conjunction with the National Day month. The initiative by the Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam Johor Baru Youth is aimed at reminding Malaysians that flying the national flag is a shared duty and symbol of national pride. Turning pride into action, the group filled the streets with fluttering flags, determined to safeguard the dignity of the Jalur Gemilang. Group chairman S. Vinodtheran said this was the first time the association had carried out such a programme, handing out 300 handheld flags and 50 car flags to the public within an hour. 'In addition, a total of about 500 flags of various sizes including national and state were displayed at the temple grounds as well as those distributed to the public,' he told reporters before the flags distribution at the Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam temple here yesterday. Vinodtheran said if the association received more contributions, it would hold another round of flag distribution. 'For now, we only distribute the flags today. But it depends, if we receive more, then we will certainly do it,' he said. Vinodtheran added that the initiative was made possible through a RM7,000 allocation from the state government, which the association received for the first time in June. With around 70 active members, the group hopes to make the flag distribution an annual event. The allocation will also be used to fund other activities planned until December, including colouring contests, chess competitions and futsal tournaments.

M'sian kindergarten teacher in tears after student allegedly throws bottle at her head
TEACHING young children is often seen as a rewarding profession, but behind the colourful classrooms and cheerful songs lies a challenging reality that many educators quietly endure. Recently, a Malaysian kindergarten teacher opened up about a distressing incident involving a three-year-old student who allegedly threw a water bottle at her head — an experience that left her in tears for the first time in her four-year career. 'I couldn't even look at (their) face, let alone waste any energy speaking to (the student),' she said in a post on Threads. She also admitted that this was the first time she had asked another teacher to manage the situation, as she genuinely felt hurt by the child's actions. 'Yes, I know people will say 'kids will be kids', but can we please stop normalising that phrase? It's toxic. 'Most children, especially at my school, have a lot of behavioural and emotional issues. I don't understand why they carry so much anger. Is it because they're spoiled, or have I failed as an educator?' she added. Later, she clarified that the toddler threw the bottle as an 'act of protest' after she had moved him to another class due to ongoing behavioural issues. The young teacher went on to explain in another comment that the student had previously acted out, and although she had voiced her concerns to the child's parents, the behaviour appeared to be worsening. She is now collecting evidence and compiling a list to present to the parents, explaining why the child's behaviour is unacceptable. Drawing from her experience with other students, she emphasised that the child needs a solid routine to help reduce such behavioural problems. The teacher's situation struck a chord with netizens, many of whom offered support and shared their own experiences as fellow educators — reassuring her that she is not alone in her struggles. 'I feel you. I was a teacher and have had pencils and worksheets thrown at me. We are truly tested as educators,' one netizen commented. 'We used to respect our teachers and appreciate the knowledge they shared with us. What is wrong with children nowadays?' lamented another.
