Honor Magic V5 is official: it's the world's thinnest foldable (again), but only in this special color
The magical white color variant. | Image by Honor Tech enthusiasts left and right are busy obsessing with the upcoming foldable fiesta from Samsung on July 9, but that's a week away. Today, we have another foldable bijou to marvel at – and it could be very well the case that many won't bother to watch (or attend) the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9. Yes, the Magic V5 looks that promising. Of course, we'll be doing our in-depth, in-house research and tell you all about this device, but until then, let's check out what this premium gadget is all about. Keep in mind that the China-exclusive Magic V5 model was unveiled today. The global variant will be announced at a point in the near future and we'll let you know once it happens. I haven't laid a finger on it yet, but it looks like the V5 will compete in the high-end foldable smartphone segment easily. The white color option seems like a pretty special finish – thanks to it, the phone slims down to an 8.8mm-thin body (folded) and weighs as little as 217 grams. Other color options are listed to render the phone to over 9mm (when folded). 8.8mm is great, and it's just 0.1mm thinner than the Oppo Find N5, a.k.a. "The foldable king" which arrived some months ago at 8.9mm in its folded state.
This year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 by Samsung will also be super thin (judging from rumors), but thickness doesn't tell the whole story. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 might have shockingly low ~4,400mAh (or less) battery inside. Meanwhile, the V5 is miles ahead.
Image by Honor One of the standout features of Magic V5 is its 6,100mAh Qinghai Lake Blade battery. This battery uses advanced silicon-carbon composite materials with more than 25% silicon content, allowing for a higher energy density without compromising the device's thinness. This means users can expect full-day performance, even with the larger screen unfolded.
On the display front , both the inner and outer screens support a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and ultra-high-frequency 4320Hz PWM dimming, which significantly reduces screen flicker and eye strain. The display also supports a wide DCI-P3 color gamut for vibrant visuals.
In terms of software intelligence , the Magic V5 is equipped with several AI-powered features. These include an AI motion sickness reduction mode, which combines display adjustments and motion effects to alleviate discomfort for sensitive users. It also features Honor's YOYO assistant, which boasts enhanced memory, logic processing, and cross-device capabilities – helping users with tasks such as multitasking, file sharing, and even coordinating services across different platforms.

The hardware includes Honor's proprietary AI Dujiangyan power management system. It uses a dedicated chipset voltage regulation chip and a self-developed E2 energy efficiency chip, enabling extended performance even under heavy use.
Durability is also a major focus. The phone incorporates Honor's Luban shock-absorbing structure with precision manufacturing, steel hinges for high-frequency folding, and IP58/IP59 protection against dust and water. These make the Magic V5 not just stylish, but durable – and personally, I like "durable" very much, when it comes to foldables. So, the world is once again toying with the world's thinnest foldable. Only if it's in white, that is.
And only, of course, if we leave the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design out of the equation. This tri-fold is 3.6mm when unfolded.
Yes, the foldable tech world is amazing. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!

Samsung's Exynos 2600 SoC spotted on Geekbench
Samsung announced the Exynos 2500 SoC last month, which is used in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 that went on sale yesterday. The Korean brand hasn't revealed anything about the Exynos 2600 SoC yet, but thanks to Geekbench, we know what to expect from Samsung's next flagship chip. A Samsung engineering device with model designation S5E9965 has been spotted on Geekbench with the Exynos 2600 chip. It's a deca-core CPU, similar to the Exynos 2500, but with a different arrangement. We are looking at a 1+3+6 configuration, having a single prime core clocked at 3.55 GHz, three performance cores running at 2.96 GHz, and six efficiency cores operating at a clock frequency of 2.46 GHz. The graphics department is handled by Samsung's Xclipse 960 GPU. The engineering device, powered by the Exynos 2600 SoC, had 12GB of RAM onboard with Android 16. It achieved scores of 2,155 and 7,788 points in Geekbench's single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. In comparison, the Exynos 2500-powered Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 scored 2,099 and 7,433 points in our Geekbench test, but the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 scored 2,910 and 9,152 points. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 Before you jump to any conclusion, you need to remember that: 1) the Exynos 2600 SoC is still under development and its CPU's clock speeds are unlikely to be final; 2) the final version of the chip that will be used in retail devices will probably have better performance. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Bloomberg reports that Samsung is evaluating the use of both Qualcomm's and its own chips for the Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to arrive next January. We could see Samsung going with the Exynos 2600 for the Galaxy S26, while the unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be used for the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Galaxy S26 Edge. The latter is said to replace the Plus model in the lineup. Source

This is why Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 units aren't unfolding fully
A few days ago, a concerning bit of news reached our ears: Fold 7 units weren't unfolding properly when customers went to look at them in stores. This occurrence now has a semi-official explanation, and the bottom line is that you shouldn't worry about this if you're considering buying Samsung's best insider with close ties to the supply chain has revealed ( translated source ) that there is nothing inherently wrong with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. They say it's an 'official explanation' but, in Chinese tech circles, that usually means that someone on the inside has relayed this information. Basically, the Fold 7 has an adhesive that coats its main display. When these phones remain folded for a very long time, and are then unfolded, the adhesive can take a while to fully recover and adapt to its changing form. After some general use, the screen should begin to properly unfold. You can also apply slight pressure to unfold it completely, though I'd rather let the adhesive take its time. The gist is that the Fold 7 demo units that consumers encountered this problem with probably remained untouched for quite a while before. Galaxy Z Fold 7 greatly improved the crease visibility. | Image credit — PhoneArena You may even encounter this problem on a Fold 7 that you've ordered, but now you know that it doesn't mean that you've received a defective unit. And, if this isn't your first foldable, you might have already encountered this phenomenon before, and were confused about people making it a big deal. Most Fold 7 units seem to unfold properly without any problems right out of the box. What's interesting to me is whether next year's foldable iPhone will also have this problem. Reports are claiming that Apple's foldable has the most advanced display and hinge technology in the entire industry. This is because the company has been trying its hardest to produce a foldable phone that has a completely invisible crease. Much like the problem with the Fold 7 , however, an invisible crease isn't seeming too likely with current technology. Aside from this minor pet peeve, the only real downsides to the Fold 7 are the 4,400 mAh battery, and the lack of S Pen support. Other than that, it's one of the most advanced phones that Samsung has ever made.
