Capital improvement projects presented to the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors
WOODBURY COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — Multiple capital improvement projects came before the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors at their last meeting. The requests are for fiscal year 2026.
Supervisors talked about how some of those projects can be paid off with funds from previous CIP Budgets that were not spent. County finance budget director Ryan Ericson says that would open up the possibility of having other requests on the upcoming fiscal year's list.

Board chairman Dan Bittinger told KCAU 9 that this would improve the chance of the projects being requested for FY 26.
'With this new information about, we can backfill some of our prior year CIP money and use it to approve current CIPs. [This] does allow us to pass more as it creates more margin and cap space for us. And it's been great, our new budget and finance director, Ryan Ericson, has been very good at finding some of those savings and just clarifying what has been spent and unspent, which has been very useful to the board,' Bittinger said.
The board decided to table the agenda item for next week's meeting to gather more information and get clarification on the exact costs of the projects.

Senator Joni Ernst announces campaign manager
IOWA (KCAU) — Iowa Senator Joni Ernst appears to be getting closer to announcing another re-election bid. Her campaign announced that Bryan Kraber will be the campaign manager for Ernst's 2026 re-election. Kraber was a part of the senator's 2020 re-election campaign. Ernst says she's thrilled to have Kraber leading her re-election campaign. Disability rights advocates encourage senators to vote against Big, Beautiful, Bill
IOWA (KCAU) — Disability rights advocates joined forces on June 5. They encouraged Iowa senators to vote against the president's so-called 'Big, Beautiful, Bill' due to the ramifications Iowans would face. The group 'Protect Our Care Iowa' said that the bill would cut Medicaid to over 600k Iowans, including 81k people with disabilities. Advocates for the bill say it cuts waste, fraud, and abuse, but the group says it's a way to cut services to the most vulnerable and offer tax cuts to the wealthy. Zach Mecham, medicaid recipient and disability rights advocate, said, 'I know throughout my history of disability advocacy that all of these policies, whether they're aimed at efficiency, or fraud, or abuse, or privatizing healthcare. I know that they all, based on my personal experience, trickle down and harm people like me.' The bill is in the hands of the U.S. Senate.
