Capital improvement projects presented to the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors
WOODBURY COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — Multiple capital improvement projects came before the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors at their last meeting. The requests are for fiscal year 2026. Supervisors talked about how some of those projects can be paid off with funds from previous CIP Budgets that were not spent. County finance budget director Ryan Ericson says that would open up the possibility of having other requests on the upcoming fiscal year's list. 'With this new information about, we can backfill some of our prior year CIP money and use it to approve current CIPs. [This] does allow us to pass more as it creates more margin and cap space for us. And it's been great, our new budget and finance director, Ryan Ericson, has been very good at finding some of those savings and just clarifying what has been spent and unspent, which has been very useful to the board,' Bittinger said. Woodbury County supervisors, Crittenton Center working to secure grant
WOODBURY COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — For the second time, Woodbury County Board of Supervisors are partnering with the Crittenton Center on the application for a Community Development Block Grant from the State of Iowa. The board first approved the request back in February, but the application came back before supervisors on Tuesday after a clerical error prevented approval from the state. The Crittenton Center cares for up to 27 kids every day. Some of those children are involved in the preliminary discussions of the renovations, highlighting what they see as important for the project. We look forward to seeing them get this grant and from what we've been told, it sounds like the application meets all the requirements and intended uses. The grant is worth 600,000 dollars and that will be towards the upgrades and facility improvements at their teen center,' said Woodbury County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dan Bittinger. Woodbury County Board of Supervisors to discuss possible hiring freeze next week
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Work on the fiscal year 2026 budget will continue next week for the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors. A clerical error found on this week's agenda is pushing action back to next week. On Tuesday, the board had to table an official action on a possible 2026 hiring freeze. Supervisors say a freeze on hiring could save several hundred thousand dollars. Sioux City residents speak out on proposed property tax levy According to the board, an Iowa property tax bill signed into law back in 2023 continues to produce budget constraints. 'We understand that every decision we make could affect someone's personal budget, their homes, things they want to do with their children, providing things for their household,' board chair Dan Bittinger said. 'And we're taking all of that into consideration. It's very hard because we don't just see, at the end of the day, it's just a dollar. Our job per Iowa Code is to handle the budget and the finance for the county, and that's our job. However, we have to understand that every decision has a real-life implication.' Supervisors also tabled a proposed funding request from the Siouxland Initiative because of budget constraints.
