A MUM who thought she had bagged a stylish bookshelf from Temu was left in stitches after a picture of the item turned up instead.
Mary Jane had picked the product as part of a free giveaway on the budget shopping app and believed she was getting an actual piece of furniture.

But, instead of a metal frame with real shelves, she received a small, 2D-printed metal sign, which showed an image of a bookshelf.
'When I opened it, I just started laughing,' the 50-year-old told What's The Jam.
'It took me a second to realise it wasn't a real shelf at all – just a flat tin sign with a picture printed on it.
'I genuinely thought it was a mistake at first, but then I looked back at the listing and saw it did say '2D'.
'I'd just completely missed it.
'It was so funny that I immediately grabbed my phone to take a video.
'It looked so convincing in the picture – like it had depth and actual shelves.
'But when I held it up, it was thinner than a baking tray and completely useless.'
Mary says she normally checks item descriptions and sizes carefully, but had been rushing through the order to beat a countdown timer on Temu's free item promotion.
The mum-of-three said: 'I didn't have time to look closely. The photos made it look like an actual bookshelf – something you'd put against the wall to hold books or plants.
I bought two splash pads from Temu and TikTok shop for £9.99 for my kids to compare - one of them is HUGE for the price
'It wasn't until I had it in my hands that I realised it was just a decorative sign. I wasn't angry, just shocked it was that bad.'
Temu offered Mary a replacement item if she returned the tin sign.
But the mum said the process was too much hassle for something she hadn't paid for in the first place.
Mary, from Columbus, Ohio, said: 'It just wasn't worth it.
'I'd rather chalk it up to experience.
'They told me to post it back to get a replacement, but I thought – why am I spending time and effort returning a free tin plate I never wanted?
'It was more trouble than it was worth.
'Yes, it said '2D' and gave dimensions, but the photos were very carefully done.
Why is Temu so cheap?
TEMU exploded onto the scene in late 2022, with people all over social media raving about the low prices.
The company is a Chinese-owned digital marketplace - essentially an online shopping app where people are connected to the retailer directly while the app takes care of the shipping element.
The frenzy over the app is not completely unfounded either as it offers a wide variety of products, including fashion, make-up, electronics and furniture.
According to a report from the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Temu takes advantage of a trade loophole that allows the company to ship duty-free goods directly to the US.
The loophole is called the de minimis exception and it means they can ship goods valued up to $800 (£643) to the US without it being inspected or taxed by US customs.
Temu connects customers directly to manufacturers and only manages how the items are sent to customers.
It means Chinese vendors can essentially sell their products directly to customers and ship it without building a network of warehouses across the globe.
By doing this, they cut down on huge costs and ensure the product itself isn't marked up extra.
While many of the products seen on the Temu app are from brands with extensive, original collections, many more are dupes of designer brands.
'They know how to make something look more than it is.
'I do think it's misleading.'
Similar items from Temu – hopefully the real deal – are listed on the retail site for around £70-£80.
The experience, albeit funny, has put Mary off using Temu again.
She added: 'I won't be ordering from them in future; I just don't trust it anymore.
'There are some decent things on there, but it's a gamble.
'I just threw the item away.
'My advice to others is to slow down, read the full description and check the measurements.
'If you don't, you'll probably end up with something you didn't expect – and not in a good way.'
Temu has been approached for comment.

Love Island's Dejon responds to step-sister's claims that he's a ‘narcissist' and ‘manipulative' insisting it's ‘false'

He used his first-ever TikTok to address the shock claims ISLE SAY Love Island's Dejon responds to step-sister's claims that he's a 'narcissist' and 'manipulative' insisting it's 'false' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island's Dejon has clapped back at "false" slurs on his character after his step sister branded him a "narcissist." The ITV2 show alum, who was voted out with partner Meg ahead of Monday's show final, took to TikTok to address the allegations in his first ever video. Niah, who is not biologically related to Dejon but shares a brother with him, took to TikTok to give fans an unfiltered glimpse into the 'real Dejon' and insisted he is "manipulative" and "narcissistic". She has even gone as far as to write her own account in a tell-all book named 'Surviving Dejon', which is already available to buy. After the rumours swirled - and coming under fire for his controversial behaviour on the show and being branded a "gaslighter" by fans - he has spoken out. Dejon appeared topless in his new clip, donning a bling diamond necklace. He strolled around a room with crisp white walls and exposed black beams and initially thanked fans for their support. He said of the good wishes: "It really means the world to me, honestly especially in times like now. "I feel like there's a lot of false stories out there about me which are very untrue, unfair and I feel like from that, really big up to my supporters. "I'm excited and looking forward to showing you guys who I really am. Watch the moment Maya Jama takes savage swipe at another girl after Meg and Dejon miss out on Love Island final "For now, lets go play some table tennis." The end of the clip showed him reunited with Meg as they played table tennis. SHOCK CLAIM In her scathing six minute video, his step sister Niah claimed that what viewers have seen on TV is an accurate reflection of how Dejon behaves in real life. She began: " So I've decided to speak out because I've been silent for way too long and I know that I will be receiving probably a lot of backlash from my family for this. LOVE ISLAND VOTING PERCENTAGES TONI and Cach won the Love Island 2025 final - yet what were the exact voting percentages? Las Vegas waitress Toni Laites and professional dancer Cach Mercer went head-to-head with OG islanders Shakira Khan and Harry Cooksley in a nail-biting finale. However, Toni and Cach were triumphant and won the summer series after surviving a love triangle just two weeks before the final. A results table shared on Love Island's Instagram account this afternoon showed Toni and Cach were the runaway winners on the night, taking over a third of the votes, with 33.5% of viewers backing them for the crown. However, Shakira and Harry drew a sizeable 26.2% of the votes, and Yas and Jamie were not far behind taking 22% on the nose. Aesthetics practitioner Angel, 26, only made her debut on July 17, but managed to secure an impressive 18.3% of the overall voting audience with Casa Amor boy Ty. "You guys are all clearly very traumatised from seeing Dejon on TV and seeing everything that he's doing and watching everything play out it seems as though no one is holding him accountable. She went on to say: 'Dejon is a narcissist, he's manipulative. I've been telling everyone this for the past 10 years now but no one believed me. And it's just crazy now that the whole of the UK can see what I've been trying to explain to people for so long. She continued: 'I didn't want to speak out on this. That's why I haven't made any videos directly explaining anything about him because I know that it can affect my family in a bad way. "And I do completely understand if they are upset with me for this post. She added: "One thing I will say is, I knew from the beginning, from the first episode I knew exactly what was going to go down. "It's just a shame because I don't want him to be seen like this, but I genuinely don't think that he sees that he's a narcissist, you know? and I actually do feel bad for Meg in a sense." Speaking about the book alongside a trailer for it, she penned: 'This book answers everything. reasons why I spoke out. Why fear kept me silent for so long. How I lost everyone and everything I ever cared about. 'It reveals the truth behind the rumours I never wanted to address. I need to tell my truth in the way that I feel in control. This is not for attention, creating this book was like therapy for me. 'I would never put my reputation on the line or lose the people I loved if I didn't have a powerful reason to finally speak.' Niah even posted a trigger warning for the book as it contains: "emotionally intense and potentially distressing content". DEJON'S TAKE Speaking to the Daily Mail previously, Dejon has hit back at claims of him being a 'narcissist', he said: "I do take full accountability for how I communicated at times in the villa. "The girls who were on the show with me say I'm not a narcissist, I'm not a gaslighter, all of these things they have seen online, it means a lot to me because they spent 24 hours a day with me. "I could have handled situations better but when it comes to being a 'narcissist' and these words, empathy is definitely something that I have, it's something I had for Meg, for Harry, and when Meg was upset, I was there for her, and when Harry was upset it would break my heart. "Me and Harry had a thing, we called it fitness and feelings where we would go to the gym and I would say "don't worry H, we can be free here, our tears, people will think they're sweat."' 6 Fans had accused the businessman of being a 'gaslighter' on the series Credit: ITV 6 He failed to reach the series final with Meg Credit: ITV

Kardashian-loved make-up artist reveals how to get £210 of beauty products for £55

We ask make-up artist and social media sensation Genevieve Turley about tips, trends and her new OK! Beauty Box – including a way for Mirror readers to get it for under £55 If you like looking at beauty content on Instagram or TikTok, the chances are that you will have seen some of Genevieve Turley's videos. At a time when beauty can seem to mostly be perfectly edited images and unrealistic standards, professional make-up artist Gen's posts are refreshingly hilarious and down-to-earth – and they've drawn attention from A-listers such as Jennifer Aniston and the Kardashians. Gen also worked on the ITV show Katie Piper's Weekend Escape, helping to make over members of the public with inspiring stories to tell, and has just released her own limited-edition edit with OK! Beauty Box, containing 11 of her favourite products – and a huge saving for Mirror readers to be had, too (keep scrolling for an exclusive offer)... How did you get into doing make-up professionally? I changed career in 2018. I had been a burns and plastics nurse in the RAF but make-up had long been a passion of mine, so once I had my daughter in 2017 I knew I wanted to leave the forces and start my own business. I had no idea what I was doing with social media at first, I just knew it was a free marketing tool and it was a great way to get my work out there. What was the turning point in your career? My presence on social media skyrocketed in 2024 when I started to do more comedy skits about make-up. My first one went viral on Instagram and both Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian commented on it. I went from 4,000 followers to 100,000 in weeks. I like to make fun of trends but sometimes there is a serious undertone about the pressure of beauty standards. How would you describe your make-up style? Natural to soft glam. A lot of my professional work has been bridal, so I have plenty of experience with different skin tones, skin types, ages etc. Online, I like to show my audience how to use products, as the beauty world can be very overwhelming. Most women want simple tips to enhance their natural beauty. And what can people expect from your social media accounts? It's a real mishmash. Overall, I like to think my pages are relatable to women aged 35+. It's life on the go as a woman with two young kids and a dog. I review make-up and skincare while sharing tips and tricks, but I also try to bring some fun. Social media can negatively impact a person's headspace, confidence and worthiness. I like to think that on mine, you will feel seen, empowered and upbeat. What's the most ridiculous make-up trend you've seen recently? So many! The blush hacks have gotten out of control. Just whack it on and get on with your day! And putting make-up onto clingfilm so you can splat it on your face in the morning. Wild! Dangerous, too, as young kids are online and this has obvious risks. Not worth the clickbait. What was the most inspirational story you heard from working on Katie Piper's Weekend Escape? There were so many. Michael [Douglas, celeb hair stylist] and I honestly had such a wonderful time with these incredible individuals who all had inspiring stories to share. One that sticks out was a lady whose young son died from type 1 diabetes. I was sitting in the room with tears rolling down my face. His mum had taken him to the GP and they said it was a virus. He could have so easily been saved. Just heartbreaking. What was important to you wh en creating your OK! B eauty Box? I've had so many beauty boxes over the years and always thought, 'What would I put in mine?' So when this happened I was delighted! I wanted great products that will make a big impact. Medik8 C-Tetra Lipid Vitamin C Radiance Serum is a showstopper. The Rodial Blush Drops will also be popular. This box is a great opportunity to try products you may not have heard of or been afraid to splurge on, but with the massive saving (it's worth over £210 but costs £59.99), it takes away the worry. What are your top tips for using the products inside? Just have a play with them, feel the textures, and try different ways of applying them. Make-up and skincare should be a mix of TLC and creative play. I wanted products that were perfect for my 'natural make-up' women. What's a quick and easy make-up trick that not enough people know? Setting spray. Spritz after foundation and then again after adding powder. It helps to bond the make-up so it looks natural and skin-like, but also adds longevity. You can also spritz throughout the day to rehydrate your skin while also refreshing your make-up. What would you pick as your ultimate desert island make-up product? How can you ask me that?! If I have to say just one, it would be the Dr PawPaw Shea Butter Lip Balm from the box because it's so multifunctional. It's great for the lips but also gives a lovely glow to your cheeks, or you can pop it on your brows to add some shape. It's a great all-rounder and handbag essential. Reader offer Get £5 off the limited-edition OK! Beauty Box by Genevieve Turley – worth over £210 – and buy it for £54.99 instead of the usual price of £59.99 while stocks last. Click here or use the code MIRRORGEN at the checkout. You might also be interested in a skincare-focused box like Lookfantastic's The Skin Renewal Edit, which is valued at £210 but costs £45, or the Boots X Supergoop! Beauty Bag Edit, priced at £44 but worth over £90 (we've reviewed this one here).

Does the TikTok trend of farmers playing jazz music to cows really work?

A new sound track has started to rumble across Britain's green and pleasant pastures. Once punctuated with birdsong and the growl of a tractor's engine, parts of the country's farmland now have a slightly funkier soundtrack. A number of dairy farmers have started to play music to their cattle in a bid to improve their welfare and, possibly, the quality of their produce. The trend has gone viral on TikTok, with videos - from across the world - fetching millions of views. Charles Goadby, a dairy farmer based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, has embraced the new trend, and has told us why playing music to cows could benefit the wider public. When did the craze start? Recent success on TikTok has brought the fad to the fore. But, Mr Goadby said that he first started playing radio to his cows nearly a decade ago. "We installed a robotic milking system and there was a lot of new harsh sounds and noises, so we wanted to drown that out and give them a constant sound. "This was about 10 years ago and somebody suggested the cows like classical music - that was the trend back then - so I put a classical radio station on for the cows to listen to and it just helps them relax a little bit." While jazz music is the current flavour for the trend, Mr Goadby said he has tried a number of different genres and radio stations over the years. What about Pavlov's Dog? While Mr Goadby initially started to play his herd music to calm, it is thought that the music can help milk production farmer said the theory behind the Pavlov's Dog experiment could also mean that music makes cows physically and mentally prepared to be milked. In the famous experiment, dogs were conditioned to associate the noise of a bell with receiving food. The dogs would then salivate from the noise alone, showing they not only mentally associated the noise with food, but also physically responded to the sound. "We always have music on in the milking parlour... [and] not just for the staff to listen to," Mr Goadby said. "It's a little bit like the Pavlov dog theory, where it's waking up the senses, it starts their hormone production off, and actually the cows will release a little bit sooner and that milk flow will be a little bit quicker. "It helps relax the cows and the workers - so that's a win-win all round." What genre do cows prefer? For Mr Goadby, the music craze first started with farmers playing their bovine friends classical music. But the latest trend has seen jazz on the menu at farms across the Goadby said cows would probably respond to any kind of music. "I think if you went and stood on the edge of a field like you see on these TikTok accounts and put any music on, the cows would come across," he said"They just want to be nosy and see what's going on, and I think as long as you're not doing anything startling, they're gonna come over and want to be nosy and have a look." Another Warwickshire farmer, Rob Hadley, was unsure if the cows would respond well to other genres of music."They're very relaxed about the jazz, but probably they'd be up for anything - maybe a bit of Ozzy Osbourne," he said. "Truthfully, a bit of Ozzy Osbourne would scare the socks off them." Why has it gone big on TikTok? We all know that animal videos are a staple of the British social media scene, but one of farmers playing music to their cattle have particularly piqued interest. Mr Goadby said it may not all be because of the quirky practice. "I just think people like cows - they're great animals so anything with cows will get interest," he dairy farmer said it's great that the "tough" industry is getting so much attention.
