Life of ‘The Crabman' charged over Pheobe's murder revealed

Perth Now04-07-2025
Shock development as a third person charged in the murder of the QLD teenager.
The third person charged over the alleged murder of Pheobe Bishop has been revealed as a father with a passion for fishing, fast cars and heavy metal.
Social media accounts of Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser, also known as 'The Crabman', paint a picture of a man with simple tastes.
But he is now facing serious charges over the 17-year-old's death.
On Tuesday, police arrested him outside a fast food drive-thru in Bundaberg West.
Mr Mittelheuser was later charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to murder and is also facing other charges of driving while disqualified, fraud and drug possession.
Police said it will be alleged he used Pheobe's mobile phone to interfere with their investigation. Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser. Credit: Facebook
Mr Mittelheuser's lawyer told court the fraud charge and the accessory after the fact charges were related, during a first hearing for the case, The Courier Mail reports.
Mr Zeller M, solicitor with Indigo Law, said the fraud charge involved the alleged use of a credit or debit card that is also relevant to the accessory allegations.
Mr Mittelheuser's arrest came after that of Pheobe's housemates James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, who were charged with her murder and interfering with a corpse on June 5.
The teenager had been living with them in a garbage-strewn property in the small town of Gin Gin, near Bundaberg before she vanished on May 15.
Pheobe failed to board a flight to WA to visit her boyfriend and was reported missing, sparking a major search.
Her remains were found just over three weeks later in the Good Night Scrub National Park on June 6. Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to murder. Credit: facebook Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser likes fishing, fat cars and heavy metal. Credit: Facebook
Mr Mittelheuser, who was born in March 1995 and attended Bundaberg State High School, is a father but reportedly does not live with his child and is estranged from the mother.
Over recent years, Mr Mittelheuser has set up numerous social media accounts showing off his love of fishing, cars and heavy metal bands including Slipknot and The Amity Affliction.
The day Mr Wood and Ms Bromley were charged with Pheobe's murder, Mr Mittelheuser posted to Instagram, 'I don't even care about my foot hanging off my bed anymore, come get me demons. Bring me home', a popular reference that is part of a TikTok trend.
On one of his Facebook pages, Mr Mittelheuser refers to being 'rinsed' by Trent McRae — a man who is one of two charged over the death of Bundaberg father Matty Nilsen, 34, who was riding his bike when he was hit and killed during an alleged hooning incident on April 29.
Mr Mittelheuser's case is next due in court on August 25.

Chilling footage shows massive shark stalking surfers at iconic Aussie beach

Chilling footage has shown a massive shark stalking surfers at Bondi Beach. The drone footage shows the ocean predator just metres from the surfers as they waited to catch a wave. It was so close to the shore the person who took the video remarked that 'if it gets any closer to the beach, it will need a towel and sunscreen', Sunrise newsreader Edwina Bartholomew told viewers on Thursday. 'A shark has been spotted just over the breakers at Bondi Beach,' Bartholomew said of the video, which was taken this week and shared via the Instagram account Bondiripper. 'The stunning video starts up close, then zooms out. 'Have a look at how close he is to surfers and one of Australia's most famous beaches.' Credit: Bondiripper There are an average of 2.8 fatalities each year from shark attacks according to the Australian Shark-Incident Database. On average, there are seven incidents in which the person is uninjured. Three fatal shark attacks have been recorded this year, one in Queensland, one in South Australia and one in Western Australia. The clip comes just days after a nine-year-old boy was attacked by a shark at Tathra Beach, on the NSW South Coast, on Thursday. Bowie Daly told the ABC he felt a tug on his board. 'When I came back up, I saw a giant back and I realised it was a shark and then I started screaming for help,' he said. Fortunately Bowie came away from the incident unscathed.

Adam Crespo: Man impaled girlfriend, Silvia Galva, with bed frame spear in brutal attack

A man has been convicted of the murder of his girlfriend after he drove a spear that was part of their bed frame into her chest. Adam Crespo, 49, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a Florida jury after his girlfriend, Silvia Galva, was found dead in their Hallandale Beach apartment. In his initial interrogation by police, Crespo framed her death as an accident. He told officers that he and Ms Galva had an intense argument, and he grabbed her by her ankles and pulled her off the bed. 'She must have grabbed onto the spear,' he said. Crespo claimed that he turned his head away, and heard the spear attached to their bed crack before it impaled her, NBC 6 South Florida reported. His defence lawyers had a medical examiner give scenarios of how the event could have been an accident. 'There is no physical evidence, there is no evidence Adam gripped that spear and used it,' said Christopher O'Toole, a defence attorney. 'Why is there no physical evidence? Because it was an accident. There's not going to be physical evidence that there was a murder.' But the prosecution also called in a medical examiner who said the angle at which the spear stabbed Ms Galva and the force of the impact indicated homicide. Jaclyn Broudy, assistant State Attorney for the Broward State Attorney office said 'this was an intentional act by that man'. 'There is no scenario, no speculative possible imaginary scenario that exists where this was an accident,' she said. During the trial, jurors were shown the interrogation video of Crespo and video recreations of how the crime may have occurred. A full reconstruction of the bed was also built inside the courtroom, including the spear which pointed upwards from the base of the bed. The jury convicted Crespo on Monday with less than two hours of deliberation. He faces life imprisonment and will be sentenced on October 31 this year. The case gained significant media attention after police obtained recordings from an Amazon Echo device that was in the apartment where Ms Galva was murdered. However, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that none of the recordings obtained by police were useful in the prosecution of the case. Tributes are flowing for Ms Galva, who was only 32-years-old when she was killed. Social media users have expressed outrage after seeing 'many cases' like this one. 'There [are] so many cases, it just boggles my mind,' one Facebook user wrote.
