INDIA Bloc writes to PM Modi, demands special Parliament session on Operation Sindoor

Hans India03-06-2025
New Delhi: In a united move, 16 opposition parties from the INDIA Bloc have written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and other key national security issues.
While the opposition has extended support to the government's actions against terrorism, it has also stressed the importance of transparent and strategic discussions within the framework of Parliament.
'Our demand has been consistent -- a special session of Parliament should be called, not only to express gratitude to our armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice, but also to allow the government to present its comprehensive stance on the matter,' the Congress said in a statement following a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders.
Addressing the media, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda elaborated on the parties' concerns: 'We expect the government to speak on issues such as Operation Sindoor, the recent ceasefire announcement by the US, diplomatic efforts to isolate Pakistan globally, and a concrete strategy to uproot terrorism. Parliament is the voice of 140 crore citizens -- this is where such matters must be addressed.'
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien emphasised the constitutional responsibility of the government to keep Parliament informed. 'The government is accountable to the Parliament, and Parliament is accountable to the people. That is why 16 parties have signed this letter, demanding a special session,' he said.
The parties that signed the letter include Congress, SP, AITC, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, J&K NC, CPI(M), IUML, CPI, RSP, JMM, VCK, Kerala Congress, MDMK, CPI (ML).
Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), though not a signatory to the joint letter, has sent a separate communication to the Prime Minister echoing the same demand.
The meeting of the INDIA Bloc leaders was held in New Delhi's Constitution Club to discuss these pressing matters.
Earlier, 200 MPs from the Lok Sabha signed a letter to PM Modi calling for convening a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, which took place in its aftermath

Kiren Rijiju slams Rahul Gandhi over Trump's ‘Dead Economy' endorsement: ‘Playing Dangerous Game'

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday alleged that the Congress leader was 'playing a dangerous game" that would harm the country through his endorsement of such views, which were also rejected by many in the Congress party itself. 'Rahul Gandhi speaks against the nation. Many are saying he is playing a dangerous game to harm the country. His anti-India language is being opposed by many prominent people in the Opposition, too. They also say you cannot describe India as a dead economy," Rijiju said. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi seconded Trump's criticism of the Indian economy, keeping it parallel to the Russian economy, and said that everyone 'except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister" knows about it. 'Atom Bomb Hay, Fatega': Rahul Gandhi Warns EC Over Bihar SIR, Oppn Demand Parliament Showdown A political storm is brewing in Parliament as the Opposition accuses the Election Commission of attempting to "disenfranchise voters" in Bihar just months before the crucial state elections. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and other leaders have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding an urgent discussion on the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. With only a fraction of Bihar's 7.23 crore applicants submitting eligibility documents, the EC is now scrambling to help issue identity proofs, triggering massive outrage from the Opposition. 'This isn't a revision, it's a voter purge,' allege MPs who warn that the EC's move could soon be replicated nationwide. Parliament proceedings remain paralysed as protests continue. Is this an administrative blunder or a calculated move to influence electoral outcomes? As India watches closely, Bihar has become ground zero in the fight for voter rights and electoral integrity.#biharvoterlistrevision, #specialintensiverevision, #sirbihar, #biharelections2025, #rahulgandhi, #ombirla, #loksabhaprotest, #oppositionprotest, #parliamentdisruption, #voterrollcontroversy, #biharvoterroll, #electioncommission, #congressbjpclash, #indiandemocracy, #voterdisenfranchisement, #electoraltransparency, #biharpolitics, #ecindia, #loksabhanews, #indianoppositionparties, #parliamentmonsoonsession, #electoralrolldebate #breakingnews #trending #bharat #toi #toibharat #indianews 2.4K views | 1 hour ago

"Rahul Gandhi Not A Child, Should Not Harm Nation's Image": Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday hit out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for echoing US President Donald Trump's criticisms of the Indian economy, saying the opposition leader is "not a child" and should understand the country's image cannot be harmed this way. "Rahul Gandhi is giving statements against the country. Several members from the Opposition have also said that this is not right. India's economy and image cannot be harmed like this," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister told reporters. "Rahul Gandhi should understand that he is not a child. It is everyone's responsibility to maintain the country's honour and image. The Opposition leader should have this much understanding," he added. On Thursday, Mr Gandhi stoked controversy after he reiterated US President Donald Trump's remarks on the Indian economy and said everyone, except Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam, knows that the country's economy is "dead". The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha also alleged that the BJP-led Centre has destroyed the country's economic, defence and foreign policies, and is "running the country to the ground". "He (Mr Trump) is right, everybody knows this except the prime minister and the finance minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact. It is a dead economy, are you people not aware of it," he told reporters. His remarks came hours after the US President announced a 25% additional import duty plus penalty on goods imported from India. Subsequently, he hit out at India and Russia and said the two countries "can take their dead economies down together". The BJP flayed the Congress leader for "echoing" Mr Trump's "dead economy" jibe at India, calling it a "shameful" insult to the aspirations, achievements, and well-being of the people of the country. Mr Gandhi also failed to find favour with a section of his own party, as party leaders Rajeev Shukla, Shashi Tharoor and Karti Chidambaram disagreed with the US President. Mr Shukla said Mr Trump's statement was "completely wrong". "Our economic condition is not at all weak. If someone claims they can finish us economically, it's likely due to a misunderstanding. Trump is living in a delusion," he told news agency ANI. Mr Tharoor also rejected the US President's remarks and said "it is not the case, and we all know it". Senior BJP leader Amit Malviya said the Congress leader hit a new low by echoing Mr Trump's "dead economy" jibe. "But let's be honest - the only thing truly 'dead' here is Rahul Gandhi's own political credibility and legacy. Even amidst global slowdown, India remains the world's fastest-growing major economy, with the IMF and World Bank revising growth projections upwards," he said, adding, "This is not a dead economy. This is a surging, resilient India."
