United Oppn demands spl Parl session on Op Sindoor

New Delhi: In a significant move, 16 Opposition parties from the INDIA Bloc have written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and other key national security issues. While the opposition has extended support to the government's actions against terrorism, it has also stressed the importance of transparent and strategic discussions within the framework of Parliament. 'Our demand has been consistent -- a special session of Parliament should be called, not only to express gratitude to our armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice, but also to allow the government to present its comprehensive stance on the matter,' the Congress said in a statement following a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders. Addressing the media, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda elaborated on the parties' concerns: 'We expect the government to speak on issues such as Operation Sindoor, the recent ceasefire announcement by the US, diplomatic efforts to isolate Pakistan globally, and a concrete strategy to uproot terrorism. Parliament is the voice of 140 crore citizens -- this is where such matters must be addressed.' Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien emphasised the constitutional responsibility of the government to keep Parliament informed. 'The government is accountable to the Parliament, and Parliament is accountable to the people. That is why 16 parties have signed this letter, demanding a special session,' he said. The parties that signed the letter include Congress, SP, AITC, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, J&K NC, CPI(M), IUML, CPI, RSP, JMM, VCK, Kerala Congress, MDMK, CPI (ML).

The meeting of the INDIA Bloc leaders was held in New Delhi's Constitution Club to discuss these pressing matters. Earlier, 200 MPs from the Lok Sabha signed a letter to PM Modi calling for convening a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, which took place in its aftermath

INDIA bloc writes to PM demanding special session of Parliament

New Delhi, June 3 (UNI) Leaders of the INDI Alliance met here on Tuesday to press for a special session of Parliament to discuss a 'sequence of events' — from the 'Pahalgam incident to Operation Sindoor and the ceasefire'. Leaders from 16 Opposition parties attended the meeting, including senior Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Deepender Singh Hooda, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O Brien, Ramgopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. Later briefing the media, DereK O Brien said the 16 parties have written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking a special session of Parliament. 'The letter basically talks about Poonch, Uri, Rajouri and having a free discussion in the Parliament,' the TMC leader said. He further added, 'The government is responsible to Parliament, Parliament is responsible to the people so it natural for all these parties, since the government is answerable to Parliament, that is why the session to the Parliament is responsible to the people'. On Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) not being a party of the meeting, the TMC leader said, 'Our understanding is that the AAP is writing directly to the PM tomorrow'. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that there are several issues which are "worrisome". Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said, "On the diplomatic front, the Prime Minister has been visiting numerous countries and meeting many leaders over the past several years. However, his so-called friend, Mr Trump, announced the ceasefire, which is a matter of concern." He further added, "India, being the world's largest democracy, must not appear to be forced into taking such actions. This warrants a discussion in Parliament, and we are demanding a special session to address it." Deepender Singh Hooda said that a special session of Parliament must be called so that from Pahalgam to Operation Sindoor to America's announcement of the ceasefire could be discussed. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut stated, "The letter sent to the Prime Minister is not an ordinary one. We represent the main Opposition and are the voice of the people. Considering the recent development, a special session of Parliament should be convened. It will uphold the country's dignity and ensure transparency for the public." Raut further questioned, "If a ceasefire can be declared at the behest of President Trump, then why can't a special session of Parliament be called at the request of the Opposition? Do we need to approach President Trump for that as well?" UNI RBE GNK

Tamil Nadu: Congress organises Tiranga Yatra to honour Indian Army

Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 25 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on Sunday organised a 'Tiranga Yatra' in Trichy to honour the valour and bravery of the armed forces for Operation Sindoor, where India hit nine terror camps deep into Pakistani territory. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the ghastly April 22-Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 civilian lives, after which Pakistan resorted to shelling on civilian and military establishments here. Indian armed forces retaliated and destroyed 11 of the 13 air bases of Pakistan on the night of May 9 and 10. Meanwhile, Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda on Sunday claimed that the Tiranga Yatra was originally his suggestion. 'I had proposed the idea for Tiranga Yatra. Even Chief Minister Nayab Saini had said it was not a good idea. But later, the ruling party held the yatra at their own level,' Hooda said in Chandigarh. 'We will always raise our voice for the public,' he added. Commenting further, Hooda said that 'one BJP MLA even questioned' Congress' connection with agriculture. 'BJP's pride is on the seventh heaven,' he added. The Congress leader also remarked that any attempts to silence the Opposition will not be tolerated. Earlier this week, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also carried out the Tiranga Yatra to honour the armed forces for Operation Sindoor. 'Tiranga Yatra is being organised in Ladwa today. Tiranga Yatras are being organised across the Yatras are not just events but occasions to pay true homage to the sense of patriotism and yatra is not just of the tricolour, this is a Yatra of our pledge, bravery and self-respect. This yatra is for those brave jawans who, through Operation Sindoor, elevated India's honour, safety and prestige,' Saini said, addressing the people. The Tiranga Yatra drew widespread public attention, covering major roads and landmarks across Agartala. Residents lined the streets to cheer and wave flags, creating a vibrant and emotional atmosphere. The yatra is part of a broader nationwide campaign to honour the armed forces and reaffirm national resolve in the wake of the tragic terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)

"Tiranga Yatra was my suggestion," says Congress leader Deepender Hooda

Haryana [India], May 25 (ANI): Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda on Sunday condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that the Tiranga Yatra was originally his own suggestion. 'I had proposed the idea for Tiranga Yatra. Even Chief Minister Nayab Saini had said it was not a good idea. But later, the ruling party held the yatra at their own level,' Hooda said. On Tuesday, former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda also criticised the Haryana government over a series of issues, including the hike in farm loan interest rates, alleged spying for Pakistan, and governance decisions. Hooda accused the Haryana government of betraying farmers by raising crop loan interest rates from zero per cent to seven per cent. He claimed that during the Congress-led UPA government, interest on agricultural loans had been drastically reduced. Speaking to ANI, Hooda said, 'It belonged to the farmer or cooperative, it was 11 to 12 per cent in the nationalised bank, then the UPA government reduced it to seven per cent. And when I was appointed Chairman, it was implemented in the whole country that any bank, whether nationalised or cooperative, cannot charge more than four per cent interest. Crop loans will be given, which was implemented across the country.' He further claimed, 'We had reduced the crop loan to zero per cent in the Cooperative Bank in Haryana. A letter has just come with zero per cent for the farmer who will give it back on time. I have seen that Hisar Cooperative Bank has charged seven per cent interest on these packs. Interest is imposed from zero per cent to seven per cent. This clarification should be done. The government cannot do this without it.' (ANI)
