Cal vs Virginia Tech ACC Tournament betting odds, prediction, pick Cal and Virginia Tech play one of three first-round games at the ACC Basketball Tournament
We all know that March Madness is a term most people associate with the NCAA Tournament alone. However, serious college basketball fans, the junkies, know this week is as mad as any other week in March, and maybe more so. Do the simple math: In the NCAA Tournament, the first-round Thursday and Friday schedules have 16 games. It's a lot of games we all pick in our brackets, but 16 is nothing compared to the avalanche of daytime tournament basketball we have this week. Cal versus Virginia Tech at the ACC Tournament is one of three ACC first-round games. The ACC Tournament and the other power conference tournament have first-round games, second-round games, and quarterfinals today through Friday. Mutliply all those games, and you have several dozens of games, far more than just the 16 you get in the NCAA tourney.
This is when March Madness truly begins. Let's dive into the Cal versus Virginia Tech matchup as daytime tournament basketball gives us one of the best weeks of the year in American sports.
Let's give you the Cal-Virginia Tech betting odds and take a look at this second game of the ACC Tournament on Tuesday in Charlotte:
Cal vs Virginia Tech game odds:
All college basketball odds via BetMGM
Spread: Cal -3.5 (-115), Virginia Tech +3.5 (-105)
Money Line: Cal -185, Virginia Tech +150
Over-Under: Over 140.5 (-115), Under 140.5 (-105)
Cal vs Virginia Tech prediction, pick:
This is an opening-round game in a conference tournament, folks. What does that mean? It means these are mediocre teams. The SEC Tournament is very rare this year, in that its opening-round games have NCAA Tournament-quality teams, due to the SEC having a chance to get as many as 13 teams into the NCAA Tournament, a rarity. That's not normal. What's normal is for an opening-round conference tournament game -- played on a Tuesday in front of a sparse crowd of family and friends -- to involve two mediocre teams. That's what Cal and Virginia Tech are.
A reminder: This is one of the worst ACC basketball seasons ever. The conference is likely to have 15 teams not make the NCAA Tournament (out of 18). Cal and Virginia Tech finished in the bottom tier of a bad conference. When you consider a betting play, you want to bet on a reliable team. Can you tell yourself either side is reliable here? The pregame bet makes less sense than a live in-game play. If one team goes up 10, you might want to get the trailing team plus 7.5 points if that's available.
Also worth noting: Money is coming in on Cal in this game. We saw the line at 1.5 and then 2.5 before it moved up to 3.5. If you did happen to grab Cal at minus-1.5, you could perhaps get Tech on an adjusted spread and try to middle the bet, which is how all bettors try to make money. You instantly can ensure you won't lose money on this game.
We lean Cal, but we don't like the 3.5 number given that some people could have gotten Cal at 1.5.
Prediction: Cal 71, Virginia Tech 67.

A New Era Begins as Georgia Tech Names New Baseball Head Coach

A New Era Begins as Georgia Tech Names New Baseball Head Coach originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The future of Georgia Tech baseball just got a power boost. James Ramsey, long considered the architect behind Georgia Tech's high-powered offenses, has officially been named the 13th head coach in program history, and the buzz around The Flats is unmistakable. For Yellow Jackets fans, this moment is more than just a coaching change. It's the beginning of a new era fueled by firepower, recruiting dominance and a relentless drive to win. Advertisement Ramsey has been at the core of Georgia Tech's offensive explosion since joining the staff in 2019. Under his direction as hitting coach and later as associate head coach, the Jackets led the ACC in batting average (.308), OPS (.918), hits (3,961), and doubles (796) over a seven-season span. That level of production didn't go unnoticed. 'We are very excited to name James Ramsey the 13th head coach in the illustrious history of Georgia Tech baseball,' said interim athletic director Jon Palumbo. 'He is the absolute right person to continue to build on the legacy of success established by Danny Hall.' Hall's legacy casts a long shadow, as he stepped down in 2025 as the ninth-winningest coach in NCAA Division I history. But Ramsey isn't here to replicate the past. He's here to elevate it. Tech's 2025 season, Ramsey's final as associate head coach, saw the Jackets win their first ACC regular-season title in 14 years. The team led the nation in doubles (149) and ranked top five among Power Four programs in slugging percentage (.540) and runs per game (8.4). Advertisement But it's not just about stats. Ramsey's recruiting pedigree is elite. The Jackets' 2024 class ranked No. 2 nationally, Tech's highest ever. He's produced All-Americans, Golden Spikes Award semifinalists and back-to-back ACC Freshmen of the Year. Ramsey, a former first-round MLB Draft pick and Florida State All-American, brings both professional pedigree and academic excellence. His energy is contagious. His vision is clear. 'This is the opportunity of a lifetime,' Ramsey said. 'We have one of the richest traditions in all of college baseball and one of the brightest futures. I can't wait to get to work.' Georgia Tech fans, it's time to rally. Ramsey isn't just leading the next generation, he's building it. Georgia Tech Football's CFP Odds Leaves Fans in Disbelief

Georgia Tech Football's CFP Odds Leaves Fans in Disbelief originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Could 2025 be the year Georgia Tech flips the national script? After two consecutive seven-win seasons and a wave of recruiting and portal momentum, ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) is taking notice. According to the latest projections, the Yellow Jackets have the fifth-best odds in the ACC to reach the College Football Playoff, a significant nod to Brent Key's steady rebuild in Atlanta. Advertisement Let that sink in. A program once written off as a rebuilding project is now in the same postseason conversation as Clemson and Miami. ESPN's FPI currently gives Georgia Tech a 9.8% chance to make the playoff, behind Clemson (47.3%), Miami (46.3%), SMU (21.1%), and Virginia Tech (12.5%). The Jackets rank No. 28 overall, ahead of several Power 5 stalwarts like Florida State, UNC, and NC State. So what's changed? Since taking over the helm in 2022, Brent Key has not only stabilized a program in flux but has created an identity rooted in physical play, discipline, and player development. Georgia Tech has pulled off multiple wins over ranked teams under Key's watch, signaling they're more than capable of punching above their weight. Advertisement The 2025 schedule is favorable, if navigated wisely. Tech faces only two top-25 teams by FPI standards, No. 11 Clemson and No. 2 Georgia. Crucially, only Clemson is a conference game. The rest of the ACC slate includes matchups with Duke, Wake Forest, and Syracuse, all ranked outside the FPI top 50. Tech avoids SMU, Miami, and Virginia Tech, which should make this task much easier. If Tech handles business against mid-tier opponents and snags an upset against Clemson or Georgia, a 10-win season isn't just possible, it could be probable. Georgia Tech's improved recruiting rankings and portal pickups reflect a clear upward trajectory in talent acquisition. With a stable offensive staff, returning quarterback Haynes King, and a much improved defense, there's reason to believe the Jackets are entering the 2025 season with their most balanced roster in years. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King (10). Brett Davis-Imagn Images In a shifting ACC landscape, Georgia Tech has something many programs lack: momentum. ESPN's analytics aren't making emotional predictions, they're crunching data and seeing what many around the conference are beginning to feel: Georgia Tech isn't just building, they're ready to strike. Advertisement Can the Yellow Jackets make the College Football Playoff? The odds might still be long, but if Tech fans are looking for hope grounded in data, this is it. FPI says there's a shot, and for a program that's battled its way back into the national conversation, that's a headline worth buzzing about. How the NCAA House Ruling Could Reshape UNC Basketball

How the NCAA House Ruling Could Reshape UNC Basketball originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It was only recently that North Carolina basketball made headlines for its jaw-dropping $14 million NIL investment. This was a bold, unapologetic declaration that the Tar Heels were all-in on winning in the new era of college athletics. Advertisement Now, the rules have changed. With the formal approval of the House v. NCAA settlement on Friday night, UNC's strategy may be headed for a sudden and dramatic shift. The landmark decision not only ends years of litigation over athlete compensation but institutes a new framework that directly impacts how powerhouse programs like North Carolina do business. At the heart of it: a $20.5 million revenue-sharing cap that schools must now work within to fund all sports. And while outside NIL deals will still be allowed, the days of uncapped internal payouts, like the $14 million reportedly earmarked for Tar Heel hoops are likely numbered. So what does this mean for Carolina? Advertisement First, the math gets tighter. With football still a major university priority under new leadership, including front office veteran Bill Belichick, UNC will need to divvy up its share of the revenue cap carefully. Allocating most of it to men's basketball risks starving its football program at a time when it's chasing relevance in a competitive ACC landscape. Second, scrutiny rises. Under the new model, all NIL deals over $600 must pass through a clearinghouse to ensure they reflect fair market value and serve a legitimate business purpose. That oversight will test the creativity and legality of every booster-backed opportunity. Still, don't count UNC out. The Tar Heels boast a national brand, an NBA pipeline, and a roster of former players turned moguls ready to support current athletes through legitimate NIL opportunities. Those advantages don't disappear under the House ruling, they just need to be leveraged with precision. UNC head coach Hubert Davis in discussion with a referee.© Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports With a top-15 recruiting class inbound, transfers like 7-foot Arizona product Henri Veesaar, and international guard Luka Bogavac joining the fold, UNC remains a destination. But sustaining that momentum under tighter financial and regulatory conditions will require smarter spending, shrewder deals, and a more integrated athletic department than ever before. Advertisement The College Sports Commission, helmed by former MLB executive Bryan Seeley will enforce the new cap and audit programs that exceed it. That means every dollar spent in Chapel Hill now comes with risk. The Tar Heels helped define college basketball's past. Whether they can dominate its future will depend not just on their talent—but on their ability to adapt.
