Keonjhar: Despite restrictions on movement of trucks on different roads in Keonjhar district, heavy vehicles continue to ply in Champua sub-division, causing severe traffic jams and at times leading to accidents.
On June 19, the district collector had ordered restriction on movement of trucks at a meeting in Champua.
"Exercising the power conferred by Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, I have restricted the movement of heavy vehicles except those carrying essential commodities on the roads in Joda, Barbil and Champua areas," Keonjhar district collector Vishal Singh, who is also the chairman of district road transport authority, said.
The roads where violations have been taking place include Rugudi to Beliepada, Bileipada to Tarini Chowk, Joda municipality, Barbil municipality and Champua NAC areas. Heavy vehicles are restricted from 8 am to 11 am and 3 pm to 8 pm on Rugudi to Beliepada and Bileipada to Tarini Chowk stretch, as well as Champua NAC area, while the restriction in Joda and Barbil municipality areas is from 6 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 8 pm.
According to the administration, tippers and trucks do not follow a proper line, causing congestion and create a lot of problems for the people, particularly school-going children and patients.

"Traffic jams are common. Many times school buses and ambulances get stuck in the truck jam," said social activist Rasananda Behera.
"Despite the restriction, many trucks, tippers and trailers are flouting rules and plying during the restriction period. The administration, truck association, and mining lessees are equally responsible for this man-made traffic problem. They must take a decision to check the problem," said Sushil Cainth, a human rights activist from Barbil.

‘Itni door kyun job liya?': Mumbai auto driver drops truth bomb mid-ride

Aditi Ganvir, an advertising professional in Mumbai, didn't expect her regular commute to turn into a philosophical debate. But that's exactly what happened when her auto-rickshaw driver decided he'd had enough—just one kilometre short of her destination. Imagine your auto wala, asking you, 'Madam, why did you take up a job this far'? Surely, one will be as perplexed as Aditi was! In a now-viral LinkedIn post, Aditi shared the unexpected moment that left her confused, slightly amused, and stranded. She was almost at her office when the driver suddenly pulled over and said, 'Madam, itna dur nahi jaa sakta.' He refused to go any further and dropped her mid-ride. What came next was even more bizarre. Instead of apologising or explaining, the driver decided to question Aditi's career choices. 'Itni door kyun job liya?' he asked her, genuinely perplexed about why someone would choose to work so far from home. Credit: Linkedin/ Aditi Ganvir And he didn't stop there. Aditi wrote that the driver then began calculating her salary and openly regretted picking up the ride at all. While many would have lost their patience, she took it in stride and ended her post with a line that perfectly summed up the situation: 'Sometimes, your journey will be inconvenient for others, and they will leave you in between. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo That's okay. Just rate them 1 star and move on.' Her post quickly caught people's attention online. Many could relate, others were simply entertained, and a few were left shaking their heads. One user commented, 'While they are ready to do this to a customer, wonder if it was his own daughter or wife. Would he have dropped her 1 km before the destination?' Another added, 'I'm sure you're not talking about the auto driver here, right? I mean, he just gave you a life lesson in 'when things don't go my way, I'll bail on you mid-ride' philosophy.' And perhaps the most accurate reaction of all came from someone who wrote, '18 km of dedication, and 1 km of unsolicited life advice. Auto rides in India really do offer full-stack experiences.' In a city known for its hustle, this little moment was a reminder that sometimes, the ride isn't just about the destination; it is about getting you to question your choices.

Qatar boosts green mobility with 300+ fast EV chargers that charge up to 80% in just 30 mins

Kahramaa announced that Qatar has surpassed 300 fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers/Image: File TL;DR: Qatar has installed over 300 fast EV chargers nationwide as of 1 August 2025 under its green mobility initiative. These DC fast chargers deliver high-power, rapid charging, often bringing EV batteries from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. This infrastructure supports Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting clean transport, reducing emissions, and enhancing convenience through digital tools. On 1 August 2025, Kahramaa, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, announced that Qatar has surpassed 300 fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers, a major milestone in building a robust EV ecosystem aligned with its sustainability goals. During a community engagement event at Al Thumama's Kahramaa Awareness Park, engineers and EV users gathered to assess charger performance, usability, and discuss future expansions. The mobile app showcased allows users to track charging sessions, receive real‑time updates, and report issues, increasing transparency and control for EV drivers. Kahramaa officials emphasised that public feedback will shape further infrastructure enhancements. Looking ahead, plans include expanding charger availability in residential areas, shopping malls, and public parking zones to meet growing demand from EV owners. What are EV chargers and what makes them 'fast'? EV chargers, also known as electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), come in two major types: AC chargers and DC chargers. AC chargers (Level 1 & 2) supply alternating current which is converted within the vehicle's onboard charger before entering the battery, these are slower and typically used at homes or offices. DC fast chargers bypass the vehicle's converter and feed direct current straight to the battery—offering power outputs ranging from 50 kW to over 350 kW and enabling rapid charging. Charging speeds are categorized as: Level 1 (trickle charging): Adds about 2–5 miles of range per hour. Level 2: Delivers 10–30 miles of range per hour, suitable for overnight residential charging. Level 3 (DC fast charging): Adds 20–60+ miles in just 15–30 minutes; ultra-fast chargers can deliver over 150 kW for even quicker fill-ups. These fast chargers installed in Qatar fall under Level 3: high-voltage DC units capable of charging most EVs to 80% in under 30 minutes, ideal for roadside use, malls, and strategic hubs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo Why this expansion is important for Qatar Supporting National Vision 2030 The EV charging rollout aligns with Qatar's broader strategy to diversify energy use, lower carbon emissions, and nurture sustainable mobility avenues. Enhancing Convenience and Reliability Fast DC chargers reduce range anxiety, making EV ownership more practical, especially given that most users rely on public infrastructure while apartment charging remains limited. Smart Infrastructure and User Engagement Kahramaa's mobile app, data tracking, and community dialogue models reinforce a user-centric approach, ensuring charger performance evolves with feedback. Broader context: EV charging explained EVSE devices support various connector standards: CCS (Combined Charging System), CHAdeMO, Type 2, and Tesla's proprietary plugs, which differ regionally. Smart chargers can optimise grid load, schedule charging during lower-tariff hours, and monitor performance, all of which are essential for modern EV networks). The global EV charging landscape still navigates challenges like standardizing connectors and ensuring equitable access—a concern highlighted by users in Qatar living in apartments where charging access remains sparse. Future outlook for Qatar's EV ecosystem Continued rollout of fast chargers in high-density and public zones to keep pace with rising EV adoption. Broader integration of smart payment and scheduling tools, possibly incorporating Plug & Charge features like ISO 15118 for automatic billing and authentication. Strategic planning to avoid grid strain as ultra-fast chargers proliferate, balancing speed and sustainability goals. Qatar's surpassing of 300 fast EV chargers marks a significant stride toward electrified transport under its Vision 2030 blueprint. These high-speed DC chargers offer rapid refueling, increased convenience, and drive cleaner mobility choices. Supported by smart apps, infrastructure engagement, and expansion plans, Qatar is accelerating into a greener transport future.

Ministry Proposes Key Changes to Motor Vehicle Regulations in India

Synopsis In a bid to enhance road safety, the Ministry of Road Transport is proposing significant amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act. The Centre plans to regulate speed limits for national highways, leaving state highways and local roads under state jurisdiction. Agencies Image for representation In a significant move to clarify speed limits and improve road safety, the Ministry of Road Transport has proposed new amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, The Times of India reported on August 3. These changes aim to establish a clear authority over speed limits, with the Centre responsible for national highways (NHs) and expressways, while states will manage speed limits for state highways and local roads, ToI's report (by Dipak K Dash) there is a mismatch between the speed limits set by the Centre and those imposed by individual states. This inconsistency often leads to confusion among drivers, who may unknowingly breach state-imposed speed limits on highways that are supposed to follow national proposed amendments aim to standardise these limits, which could help reduce penalties for drivers and curb corruption linked to enforcement addition to speed limit changes, the ministry is taking a firm stance on uninsured vehicles. The proposed amendments suggest increasing penalties significantly. Currently, the fine for driving without insurance stands at Rs 2,000 for first-time offenders and Rs 4,000 for repeat new proposal will require uninsured drivers to pay three times the base insurance premium for first offences and five times for subsequent violations. This initiative is designed to tackle the rising issue of uninsured vehicles on Indian roads. The draft amendments also include stricter regulations for the renewal of driving licences. A mandatory driving test will be required for individuals convicted of serious offences, such as overspeeding or driving under the drivers aged 55 and above will be subject to a driving test at the time of licence renewal, ensuring that all drivers maintain a competent level of skill. The ministry has circulated these proposed amendments to other government bodies for feedback before seeking Cabinet approval.
