Tampa Bay land different edge rusher in PFF's 2011 NFL re-draft
PFF has been running a summer series for several weeks now, and they have gone back and re-drafted several classes from the NFL Draft. Next up for them is the 2011 NFL Draft, which produced several Hall of Famers and will be remembered as one of the best classes of this generation.
The class was, of course, led by a pain in the neck for Bucs fans, Cam Newton, as he was selected number one overall by the Carolina Panthers. The Bucs saw another division rival land a legend in Julio Jones going to the Atlanta Falcons when they traded up for him by giving up a large package of picks to the Cleveland Browns.
As for the Bucs, they stayed put and drafted a reliable pass rusher in Adrian Clayborn. In the re-draft, they land another pass rusher in Super Bowl champion, Jabaal Sheard.
The Browns initially drafted Sheard in the second round with the 37th overall pick. He was traded to the Patriots, where he won a Super Bowl with them. He then hopped around the league before retiring after the 2021 season.
Sheard finished his career with 407 tackles and 53 sacks, while Clayborn finished his career with 208 tackles and 40 sacks. Two different types of edge rushers, but one had a bit more production and could have been fun to watch in pewter.

49ers' Christian McCaffrey Speaks Out With Major Injury Update
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The 2024 NFL season was a tough one for San Francisco 49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey. Despite huge expectations, injuries completely ruined the year for him. At the beginning of the season, McCaffrey was dealing with Achilles tendonitis. He was able to come back from that injury, but only played four games and went down with an injury to the PCL in his knee. Going through two separate injuries like those in one season is a lot to handle. Despite that fact, McCaffrey has worked hard to recover and is ready to get back to dominating opposing defenses during the upcoming 2025 season. After making a run to the Super Bowl during the 2023 season and losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team missed the playoffs last season. That hasn't sat well with them. Read more: 49ers Insider Urges Blockbuster Trade Idea Involving WR Brandon Aiyuk McCaffrey is going to be a massive part of leading San Francisco back to the postseason. He's ready to make that happen. On Wednesday, the star running back spoke out with a major update about his current injury status and how he's feeling. "I feel great," McCaffrey said. "I think this offseason I spent a lot of time kind of building back a base starting from scratch, so a lot of it was rehab and wanted to put myself in a position where I didn't miss a day of OTAs and I could practice and play football again, be healthy and not miss a day, and I did that." Last season, McCaffrey carried the football just 50 times for 202 yards and no touchdowns, while catching 15 passes for 146 yards in four games. Back in 2023, he racked up 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns on 272 carries to go along with 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven more scores. Read more: Steelers Linked to Elite New Weapon for Aaron Rodgers A healthy version of McCaffrey is among the best offensive playmakers in the NFL. Having him back at full health will help the overall team success, but the big winner will also be quarterback Brock Purdy. With his star running back in the backfield, a lot of pressure will fall off of his shoulders. Hopefully, the 29-year-old superstar will be able to stay healthy for the entirety of the 2025 season. He's been through a lot, but he's in great health and spirits entering the upcoming year as he looks to rebound and get his career back on track. NFL Trade Idea Lands Aaron Rodgers a Disgruntled Commander
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Since last week, it became clear the Washington Commanders aren't on the greatest of terms with their star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin. Heading into the final season of his current contract, McLaurin wants a new deal before he gets going for the 2025 NFL season. The Commanders fired up OTAs in the spring, and McLaurin made a silent statement by not being around the team. Since the sessions were voluntary, McLaurin's absence didn't hold that much weight. The same can't be said about McLaurin's decision not to show up for this week's set of offseason practices. Right now, there's a bit of a standstill going on. As a result, there's at least some level of doubt surrounding McLaurin's future with the Commanders. Without a new contract in place for the veteran wideout, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox kicked around a trade idea that would gift the Pittsburgh Steelers and their new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, the disgruntled star pass-catcher. In the hypothetical deal, the Commanders would acquire a 2026 first-round pick from the Steelers and a 2027 fifth-round pick, which would come from the Dallas Cowboys. Aller/Getty Images "If the Steelers were ever going to go all-in on a season, this is the one," Knox wrote. "...Though Rodgers had a largely forgettable season with the Jets in 2024, he was coming back from a torn Achilles. In theory, the 41-year-old will be an upgrade over last year's duo of Fields and Russell Wilson. If the Steelers hope to make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl with Rodgers, however, they should look for all of the receiver help they can get. McLaurin, who is a pristine route-runner who can attack all areas of the field, would complement Rodgers well." Acquiring McLaurin certainly wouldn't come cheap for Pittsburgh. However, if they want to maximize the gamble of bringing on Aaron Rodgers, who could end up being a one-year rental, McLaurin could bring a lot of value to the field. Last season, McLaurin appeared in 17 games for the Commanders. He formed a solid connection with Washington's first-round rookie, Jayden Daniels. The veteran wideout caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. McLaurin added a second Pro Bowl nod to his resume and became an All-Pro for the first time in his career. While picking up McLaurin in this scenario would be a move to stack up weapons for the 41-year-old Rodgers to try and win right away, the Steelers would get an opportunity to secure a proven star receiver for years to come. So far, the Commanders haven't reached a point of no return with McLaurin. Comments from Jayden Daniels and the head coach, Dan Quinn, suggest that everybody but McLaurin's reps and the Washington front office are on the same page. McLaurin might be a holdout right now, but the Commanders seem confident that the situation will get resolved soon.

DeVonta Smith Reflects on 'Dagger' Super Bowl Touchdown
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Since being drafted 10th overall in 2021, DeVonta Smith has become a key piece of the Philadelphia Eagles' offense. As he prepares for his fifth season with the franchise, he looked back at arguably the most memorable moment of his NFL career thus far. After making their way through the NFC playoffs last year, the Eagles found themselves facing off against a familiar foe in the Super Bowl. Things didn't go their way the first time against the Kansas Chiefs, but they made sure the rematch was a completely different story. Heading into the game, many expected a competitive matchup between two of the NFL's elite teams. However, that is now how things unfolded. The Eagles came out and set the tone early, and never looked back. Up 27-0 with about three minutes left in the third quarter, the Eagles found themselves with possession around the 50-yard line. Instead of running the ball, Philly decided to pour salt in the wound of their rival. Jalen Hurts dropped back and proceeded to launch a 46-yard touchdown pass to Smith. This catch accounted for most of Smith's production in the Eagles' 40-22 victory. He ended the night with four receptions and 69 receiving yards. MoreEarlier this week, the Eagles began their mandatory minicamp. Following the opening day of action, Smith was among multiple players to speak to the media. During his press conference, the young wideout was asked about his jaw-dropping touchdown against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. He dubbed the play one of the top three catches of his career before going on to poke fun at a division rival. "I would say it's top three," Smith said regarding his Super Bowl TD. "The other two would be two catches against Washington. There's a lot of them." Devonta Smith says The Dagger was one of the top 3 plays of his career The other two? 'Two catches against Washington' Which two? 'There's been a lot of them' — Eliot Shorr-Parks (@EliotShorrParks) June 10, 2025 Throughout his career, the Commanders are a team Smith has had a lot of success against. Across eight matchups, he's racked up 559 yards and three touchdowns. This is his highest number of yards against any team, with the Dallas Cowboys being a close second (484). Coming off a season where he recorded a career-high eight touchdowns, Smith is poised to continue being a primary component of the Eagles' offense. Alongside A.J. Brown, he'll attempt to keep Philly in the discussion of best wide receiver duos. Smith's jab at the Commanders is going to fester for some time, as the two teams don't square off until the later stages of the regular season. Their two matchups of the year are slated for Week 16 and Week 18.
