Pet zebra recaptured after week on the run, airlifted to safety in Tennessee
A pet zebra named Ed, who had been on the run for a week in Tennessee, was finally recaptured on Sunday and dramatically airlifted to safety, much to the relief of local authorities and the delight of social media users.
Ed was found grazing in a pasture near a residential area in Christiana, about 40 miles from Nashville, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. His unusual escape captivated the internet, inspiring a slew of memes showing him in bizarre situations, from dining at Waffle House to panhandling across Tennessee.

To secure Ed safely, officials called in an aviation team. 'Ed was airlifted and flown by helicopter back to a waiting animal trailer,' the sheriff's office confirmed. A video posted by the department showed Ed wrapped in a net with his head sticking out, gently dangling beneath a helicopter as he was transported.
The zebra first went missing on May 31. Deputies had spotted him sprinting alongside Interstate 24, prompting a temporary shutdown of the roadway. But Ed managed to dodge capture, slipping into nearby woods. Over the following days, he was seen wandering through neighbourhoods around Christiana but continued to elude authorities.
Despite the growing online fanbase hoping he'd venture further, Ed never left Christiana and is now on track to return home safely.
Ed's week-long adventure joins a string of unusual animal escapes this year. In April, a kangaroo caused a two-car crash after hopping down a highway in Alabama before being tranquilised and returned. In February, a baby seal was spotted in New Haven, Connecticut, but sadly died days after being taken to Mystic Aquarium.

Probe launched against Tripura Cong leader for ‘defaming' CM
Agartala: Police on Monday launched a search against Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) spokesperson Md Sahajan Islam for alleged defaming narratives and expressions against chief minister Manik Saha on Sunday night in a Facebook live. The officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee, said Sahajan's deliberation has triggered political unrest and hurt the communal sentiment of the people. He had made derogatory comments on the professional and personal life of the CM that is completely illegal. "Indian law doesn't permit the citizen to make a personal attack on the head of a state," Chatterjee said, adding that a specific case has been registered against Islam, who is absconding, based on a complaint and police have also launched an investigation. He allegedly made several posts on social media in communal lines alleging that saffron cadres obstructed the celebration of Bakri Eid in several locations of the state, and in a few places, they stopped the transportation of cows.

Pak couple dead in flat, cops suspect murder-suicide
Navi Mumbai: A 45-year-old Pakistani national is suspected to have stabbed to death his wife, also a Pakistani, with a kitchen knife and then died by suicide at their rental flat in Kharghar on Monday. The wife had stab injuries on the neck, back and shoulder. Deepak Surve, senior inspector, Kharghar police, said the man, Notan Das alias Sanjay Sachdeva, was accused of assaulting his wife, Sapna Das (35), in front of some neighbours last month, but the woman refused to lodge a complaint against him. The couple arrived in India with their two minor children on long-term visa more than six months ago. Sapna's sister, Sangeeta Makhija, who is an Indian citizen, took a flat on rent for them in Dolphine Pride Society in Sector 34, Kharghar. Makhija was reportedly taking care of their financial needs. A senior police officer said following the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan, the couple was in the process of completing the administrative formalities of returning home. Surve said when the younger child returned from his coaching class on Monday, he found the main door locked from the inside. His sibling was not at home either. "There was no response to repeated knocks. The child sought the help of a neighbour, who entered the flat through a common balcony. The neighbour found the couple in a pool of blood," said Surve. After last month's alleged assault, Makhija had sought police's help but they expressed helplessness after Sapna refused to file a complaint.

AIYF leaders demand cancellation of IPL matches due to negative impact on youth and rise in betting
CPI affiliated All India Youth Federation (AIYF) Visakhapatnam district unit leaders and activists have demanded cancellation of IPL cricket matches across the country as they are spoiling the lives of the youth, especially students. The latest incident in which 11 youths died due to a stampede in Bengaluru is an example of the commercial sports programme and its direct impact on the youth and their lives, the activists said. Speaking to reporters at the Gandhi statue here on Monday, AIYF district president Y. Rambabu and secretary Achyutharao said that corporate companies have spoiled cricket by luring players with money to create a special cricket division called IPL. It has become a business event of these corporate bigwigs. In the name of sports, these IPL owners are running a sports programme where the youth and students are targetted. The youth are addicted to this commercial entertainment programme, and suffer huge financial and career losses, they added. In those days, government authorities used to organise One Day International (ODI) matches between countries, and the players and matches were entirely from a particular country, so those players inspired Indians. But in the case of these IPL matches, there are rivalries with Indian players when they represent different IPL franchises. They lamented that this creates an unhealthy situation in the minds of the youth. More importantly, during IPL matches, the youth fall for cricket betting. They said that many middle-class people are suffering from this evil act.
