Multi-asset funds invest in a mix of equity, debt, and commodities like gold and silver. They aim to deliver ease from the volatility linked to plain vanilla equity funds.
Agencies
This category is in vogue because of elevated share valuations, resulting in more investors putting money in these schemes. 'Equities are trading above long term averages and if that is the only asset you hold, one could end up with tepid returns,' says S Shankar, certified financial planner, Credo Capital.
Live Events
Shankar believes multi asset funds — which include gold, silver, and debt — can cushion potential declines in equities. Assets under management in multi asset funds rose 51% over the past year — from Rs 86,000 crore in June 2024 to Rs 1.3 lakh crore in June 2025. Fund managers also point to the
tax efficiency
of these products as a key draw for wealthy investors.
'Multi asset funds give you the benefits of asset class rebalancing and tax efficiency,' says Rajasa. If investors were to invest separately in gold, equity, and debt and rebalance the portfolio every year, the resulting tax outgo could be significantly higher, denting overall post-tax returns. Multi-Asset Allocation funds, as a product category, are taxed on the basis of the equity allocation.

Tesla inaugurates Delhi showroom, focuses on Model Y sales
New Delhi: Elon Musk-run Tesla on Monday inaugurated its first showroom in the National Capital Region (NCR) at the Worldmark 3 complex in Aerocity, marking the electric carmaker's second retail location in India within a month of entering the country. Situated in one of Delhi's busiest business districts, close to Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Aerocity outlet serves as an experience centre where guests can examine the Model Y electric SUV, understand the purchasing process, and discover charging options. Customers from Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and the surrounding areas are anticipated to be served by the location. The launch comes after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended Tesla's India debut on July 15 at Maker Maxity in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex. The company was invited by the chief minister of Maharashtra to establish research and development and manufacturing facilities in the state. Tesla is making a strong effort to enter India's premium EV market before the holiday season with the opening of the new showroom in Delhi, adding a second major metro to its retail map. The company is currently concentrating on increasing retail access and customer onboarding, but it has not yet revealed plans for local manufacturing or additional models for India. The Model Y is currently the flagship model in Tesla's India portfolio. It comes in two different versions: the standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) model costs Rs 59.89 lakh, while the Long Range RWD model costs Rs 67.89 lakh (both ex-showroom). Delivery is expected to start in the third quarter of 2025, and reservations opened in July. The claimed range of the standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Model Y is 500 km on a single charge; the Long Range RWD variant increases this to 622 km. According to Tesla, the Long Range model can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds, while the standard model can do so in 5.9 seconds. The top speed of both models is 201 kmph. The standard version can recover up to 238 km of range with a fast charger in 15 minutes, while the Long Range can recover up to 267 km in the same amount of time.

Central GST authorities have not issued any notices based on UPI transactions, FinMin says after furore in Karnataka
With transactions of small businesses under the tax scanner, the Ministry of Finance on Monday stated that the Central GST authorities have 'not issued any notices based on UPI transactions'. In response to a question asked by BJP MPs K Sudhakar and Tejasvi Surya in Lok Sabha on whether the Government has issued GST notices to small traders and street vendors in the country without assessment of their business activities including Karnataka, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, 'No. Central GST authorities have not issued any notices based on UPI transactions.' On the query of whether such evasions are due to systemic flaws within the GST Department, the Finance Minister replied in the negative. Data by central tax formations for Karnataka shared by the Finance Minister in Lok Sabha showed that 1,254 GST evasion cases involving detected amount of Rs 39,577 crore were registered in 2024-25. This was higher than 925 cases with detected amount of Rs 7,202 crore in 2023-24 and 959 cases with detected amount of Rs 25,839 crore in 2022-23. The issue of Goods and Services Tax (GST) notices to small businesses came to the forefront last month after Karnataka sent a spate of notices to unregistered vendors and small businesses, asking them to register under GST for having breached the GST registration threshold. Several such notices in Karnataka had pointed out that such unregistered businesses had received payments by way of cash, UPI or POS machines exceeding Rs 40 lakh (for goods) or over Rs 20 lakh (for services) annually. The heightened scrutiny and the spate of notices to small businesses had a fallout — many small vendors were refusing to take UPI payments for fear of being tracked by the tax authorities. The Indian Express had reported last month that Central and state GST authorities had reached out to payment aggregators, seeking data of those who received payments exceeding Rs 20 lakh per year to undertake data analysis on cash-based and unregistered trade. A missive sent by central GST authorities to its field officers on June 24 had asked officers to identify sectors that are prone to cash transactions, conduct geographical mapping to identify specific markets for informal economic activity, and undertake targeted outreach programmes to engage with local business associations and nudge them to register under GST. It had pointed out that a part of the economic activity still continues to operate outside the formal tax framework, particularly in sectors and markets where cash transactions dominate. However, officials maintained that no notices were sent by central GST authorities. GST registration is mandatorily required if small businesses have all-India aggregate turnover above Rs 40 lakh in case of supply of goods (Rs 20 lakh if business is in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura and Uttarakhand) and Rs 20 lakh in case of supply of services or in case of mixed supplies (Rs 10 lakh if business is in states of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura).
