Video: Mumbai's Newly-Inaugurated Worli Metro Station Flooded, Roof Leaks

The Worli underground metro station in Mumbai was flooded as Monsoon arrived early in the financial capital. Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rainfall, which started last night and continued till morning, resulting in waterlogging in parts of the city and traffic congestion. The visuals from the ground show the Worli underground metro station inundated following incessant rain in Mumbai. The water reached not just the gates of the station but also the platforms, waiting to enter the metro.
Several videos show the platform completely flooded with muddy water. The passengers were seen wading through the water with folded pants and slippers.
In another video, shot from inside the metro, the water was seen dripping down the platform, suggesting a leak in the roof. The cause of the flooding suggests inadequate drainage.

The Services of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli became operational earlier this month, on May 10. The flooding at the newly inaugurated station has raised questions about the infrastructure.
Taking a dig at the situation, a user on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "We are idiots. They were serious when they named it Aqua Line."

In another incident, a part of Kemps Corner Road in South Mumbai collapsed, resulting in restricted traffic movement. Kemps Corner is a posh neighborhood in South Mumbai. It's located at the intersection of Breach Candy, Warden Road, Pedder Road, and Nepean Sea Road.
The road has been closed near Warden Collection for all vehicles coming from Kemps Corner towards Mukesh Chowk.
All vehicles have been asked to take a U-turn and drive back towards the Kemps Corner flyover. No vehicle is allowed to go from Kemps Corner towards Nepean Road.
The administration is present on the spot. People have been asked to use the alternate route.
Monsoon Arrives In Maharashtra
The southwest monsoon arrived in Maharashtra on Sunday, making it the earliest onset of the annual rainfall season over the state in 35 years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over west coast - Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra and Goa - during the next seven days, the weather department had said on Sunday. Mumbai is witnessing a light to moderate spell of rainfall since early morning.
According to weather officials, Mumbai's Nariman Point area received 40 mm of rainfall between 6 am and 7 am today, Grant Road received 36 mm, Colaba received 31 mm of rainfall, and Byculla witnessed 21 mm of rainfall. Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs are witnessing light rainfall today, they added. This has affected flight services and train operations in parts of Mumbai. Several airlines including Spice Jet and Air India advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

KRCL rolls out monsoon action plan
Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) has activated a proactive and comprehensive action plan covering key areas, including infrastructure reinforcement, real-time monitoring, patrolling and emergency response aimed at minimising service disruptions and enhancing passenger safety along its rugged terrain during the Monsoon. KRCL in a release here said extensive cleaning of catchwater drains and inspection of cuttings across the route were conducted. With ongoing and completed geo-safety works reducing instances of boulder falls and soil slippages, there were no major disruptions in the last decade. It has deployed 636 trained personnel for 24/7 patrolling at vulnerable locations while placing BRN-mounted excavators strategically at Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali and Verna for rapid response. Rail Maintenance Vehicles were stationed at Veer, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Rajapur Road, Kudal, Verna, Karwar, Bhatkal and Udupi. Tower Wagons were kept ready at Mangaon, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Karmali, Karwar and Udupi. Emergency aid KRCL has instructed loco pilots to reduce train speed to 40 km/h during low visibility caused by heavy rainfall. Self-Propelled Accident Relief Medical Vans with operation theatres and emergency medical aid were stationed at Ratnagiri and Verna, while an Accident Relief Train was stationed at Verna. In situations where water exceeds 100mm over the rails, train services will be temporarily suspended. It has provided mobile phones to safety personnel for emergency communication, while loco pilots and guards were given walkie-talkies. All stations have 25-Watt VHF sets ensuring seamless wireless coordination. Emergency Communication sockets were installed every 1 km for immediate contact between patrolmen, watchmen, loco pilots, guards and other field maintenance staff with control offices. While LED signals were installed for enhanced visibility during low-light or foggy conditions, self-recording rain gauges were active at nine key stations. Flood warning systems were functional at key bridges. Anemometers were installed on major viaducts and bridges to monitor wind speeds. Control rooms at three stations work 24/7. KRCL would implement the Monsoon Timetable from June 15 to October 20 wherein trains would run at reduced speeds.

IMD forecasts thunderstorms in South Bengal, severe storms in eastern Uttar Pradesh
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall in south Bengal districts and heavy rain in the sub-Himalayan districts till Friday morning. Severe thunderstorms accompanied by hail are expected to continue over eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Hardoi, Raebareli, Unnao, and Ayodhya, for the next two to three hours, the IMD said. Sharp showers lashed the metropolis and nearby Salt Lake on Tuesday night, causing a steep fall in minimum temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Heavy rain is expected to continue until Thursday morning in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar, the IMD added. Salt Lake recorded the highest rainfall in south Bengal at 81.3 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday, the department said. Kolkata's Alipore station received 38 mm of rain, while Dum Dum logged 57 mm during the same period. In north Bengal, Cooch Behar recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 139 mm, followed by neighbouring Alipurduar with 110.2 mm. Meanwhile, in Delhi, a yellow alert has been issued as an early warning signal indicating that severe weather conditions are expected and may affect day-to-day activities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging between 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 71 per cent. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 34 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. The air quality in the city was recorded in the moderate category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 181 at 9 am.
