Multi-crore fake drug racket busted as Delhi-based mastermind arrested in Dehradun after four-year chase
The arrest of Devi Dayal Gupta, owner of Dr Mittal Laboratories Pvt Ltd, based in Ashok Vihar, North West Delhi, marks a major step in dismantling the alleged organised crime syndicate.
The crackdown comes after the State Director General of Police Deepam Seth directed the STF to identify and take stringent action against gangs involved in the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit drugs, which pose a severe threat to public health.
Following the DGP's directive, SSP STF Navneet Singh Bhullar had instructed his teams to 'prepare the complete profile of these fake drug manufacturers and ensure strict action against them.'
Speaking to TNIE, SSP STF Navneet Singh Bhullar said, 'On June 1, the STF had previously arrested one Santosh Kumar from Dehradun with a large quantity of fake outer boxes, labels, and QR codes of prominent pharmaceutical companies, including GLENMARK (Telma AM, Telma 40), Ipca Laboratories Ltd (ZERO DOL SP), Intas Pharma Ltd (Gabapin NT), ALKEM Health Science (PAN 40, PAN L), Dr REDDY LABORATORIES (VOVERAN SR 100), and Cadila Pharmaceutical (CODECTUSS TR Cough Syrup).'

Murder accused injured during escape attempt
Patna: The key accused in the murder of sand trader Ramakant Yadav, Divyanshu alias Anshu, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg while attempting to flee police near Nisarpur canal late on Friday night. The incident occurred during an operation to recover the murder weapon in the Rani Talab police station area. Divyanshu, a resident of Kaab village, was arrested in Lucknow on Aug 15 by a joint team of Patna STF and local police. "Following his arrest and interrogation in Patna, where he confessed to the murder, Divyanshu led us to the canal to retrieve the firearm used in the crime," said Patna SSP Kartikeya Kumar Sharma on Saturday. Around 11.50pm, he allegedly pushed an officer and ran. Ignoring warnings to stop, he was shot in the leg in controlled police firing. He was first taken to Bikram Primary Health Centre, then referred to AIIMS Patna. A country-made pistol and four live cartridges were recovered. Two other accused, Mantru Kumar and Bittu Kumar, had earlier been arrested, leading to Divyanshu's identification as the main conspirator. UP: Runaway undertrial absconding since 2022 held in Gujarats Surat
Agency: Deoria (UP), Aug 16 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested a prisoner, who had escaped from the Deoria district jail two and a half years ago, from Gujarat's Surat, officials said on Saturday. The accused, Upendra Pandey, from Baraipur village in the Rampur Factory area, was imprisoned in connection with a girl's rape under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He escaped from the district jail on 29 December 2022. On August 13, the STF field unit from Varanasi arrested him near Shiv Shakti Nagar Society in Surat. After his arrest, Pandey was brought back to Deoria on transit remand and subsequently returned to the district jail as per the court's orders. Wanted inter-state criminal killed in police encounter in Bihar, constable injured
PATNA: An interstate criminal carrying a bounty of Rs.50,000 on his head was killed in a fierce encounter with police in Bihar's Vaishali district on Friday. Arvind Sahni, 30, had escaped from a court lockup after evading police in Samastipur district on May 28 this year and had been on the run since. According to police, he was involved in at least 22 cases of murder, loot, dacoity, and arms deals across Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, and East Champaran districts. A police constable was injured during the exchange of fire. Based on a tip-off, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and district police surrounded Chintamanipur village under Vaishali police station limits on Thursday evening to search for Sahni. On seeing the police, Sahni and his accomplices opened fire. Sahni sustained gunshot injuries, while his accomplices managed to escape. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. Superintendent of Police, Vaishali, Lalit Mohan Sharma, said, 'While Sahni was killed, a police constable sustained injuries in the exchange of fire. The deceased, a member of an inter-state gang, was wanted in at least 22 cases in several districts in the state. Sahni's name had also figured in a major jewellery loot case in Chhattisgarh.' Sahni, a resident of Sahtha Bhagwanpur village in Vaishali district, was also involved in the 2019 gold loot from the Hajipur office of a private finance company. SP Sharma added, 'We have launched intensive search for other members of the gang. The operation will continue till their arrest.' Sahni's elimination in the police operation has come as a major relief for businessmen in Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Samastipur, who had been targeted by his gang. Police said the gang had unleashed a reign of terror in these districts, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplices.
