Former radio jock Criselda Kananda on leading the Malibongwe Arts Festival Foundation
It's one thing to purchase a ticket for a women's festival and going there to have a great time.
However, it's more meaningful knowing that the festival you're attending has taken up the social responsibility to support artists.
Former radio jock Criselda Kananda was recently announced as an ambassador for the Tribute To Women concert to spearhead its newly launched social impact arm, the Malibongwe Arts Festival Foundation.
The Tribute To Women concert is presented by the Malibongwe Arts Festival, which was established in 2018.
'The Malibongwe Arts Festival Foundation represents more than a single event,' said Kananda.
Festival Director Joe Chakela said Kananda's life has been a testament to the pursuit of wellness, justice and representation.
'This new chapter is a calling. This platform allows us to bridge celebration and impact. That's what makes it special,' said Chakela.
The concert itself is set for 24 August at Mark's Park in Emmarentia. The line-up includes Thandiswa Mazwai, Makhadzi, Ami Faku and the UK's Keisha White, among its long list.

The foundation
The foundation was established this year under the former Metro FM DJ's leadership.
'It's about creating a lasting legacy. Our mission is to empower women – particularly in the arts and culture sectors – by providing them with essential skills, visibility, and resources to succeed,' said Kananda.
'Moreover, it's about recognising that our stories, voices and talents hold the potential to transform the world.'
Through education, entrepreneurship training, cultural upliftment and partnerships with government and private sector, it seeks to catalyse both social cohesion and economic growth.

Doja Cat announces completion of new album 'Vie'
Doja Cat has officially completed her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Vie . The singer announced the milestone with a brief French-language post on X (formerly Twitter). She simply wrote, 'L'album est complet,' meaning 'The album is complete,' and added a croissant emoji. This was a playful nod to the album's French title, which translates to 'life' in English. Scheduled for release this autumn, Vie marks Doja Cat's return to a more pop-driven sound following her 2023 album Scarlet , according to Billboard. Scarlet debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and featured the chart-topping single 'Paint the Town Red.' In a recent interview with V Magazine, Doja Cat described the new album as distinctly focused on pop music. She said, 'I want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project.' She added insight into the cultural perception of pop. 'Pop is just that, it's popular. It starts to become a bit of a thing that's viewed as a sport by people who are just bystanders to it, who enjoy it. Maybe they also don't respect it or what it is, which is just music'. Doja Cat also revealed that Vie explores themes around love, romance, and sex with a hopeful and future-oriented perspective. She shared, 'This album is very much about love in a way that reflects how I want it to be in the future, my hope, my hopefulness. What I hope it could be.' She contrasted this with the current trend in pop music, which often centres on breakup songs and cynicism about relationships. Although no official singles from Vie have been released yet, Doja Cat has teased snippets of unreleased tracks on social media. She recently collaborated with RAYE and LISA on the single Born Again and featured on Jack Harlow's Just Us and Don Toliver's Lose My Mind from the F1 soundtrack. This has kept her presence strong in the music scene. Doja Cat will drop her upcoming single, 'Jealous Type,' on 21 August, further building anticipation for the album's full release. The anticipation for Vie is high as Doja Cat prepares to deliver an album combining infectious pop energy with emotional depth. Pints for Paws hits all the right notes for SPCA
Pints for Paws hits all the right notes for SPCA Local music lovers came together for a great cause at the Pints for Paws fundraiser last Saturday, supporting the Lower South Coast SPCA. Held at the ever-vibrant Rocky Ridge, Bar and Music Venue in Ramsgate, the event featured a stellar line-up of local bands and artists, keeping the crowd entertained from start to finish. The annual fundraiser was sponsored by The Don Ira Spar Group and Hibiscus Brokers. Petterson of The Don Ira Spar Group took a moment to remind the crowd why events like these matter. In a meaningful message, he spoke about the importance of community support for the Lower South Coast SPCA, and how businesses, individuals, and animal lovers can all play a part. 'Every animal deserves kindness, care and a safe place – and it's up to all of us to help make that happen,' said Petterson. With cold drinks flowing, tasty bites on offer and paws-itively good vibes all around, the event proved that the South Coast knows how to party with a purpose. From indie/rock tunes to classic covers, there was something for every music fan. Thanks goes to all the organisers, performers and everyone who came out to support.
