Sonos Arc Ultra launched in India at ₹99,999: What makes this premium soundbar stand out?
The Arc Ultra headlines the launch, boasting newly introduced Sound Motion tech, which is said to enable more powerful bass while reducing the transducer size. According to the company, the device is capable of delivering up to twice the bass of its predecessor, along with a 9.1.4 spatial audio setup powered by Dolby Atmos.
Additionally, the latest version of its subwoofer promises deeper bass, improved distortion control, and a modest redesign. The dual inward-facing woofers are aimed at delivering a cleaner low-end by cancelling out unwanted vibrations.
Arc Ultra and Sub 4 are being positioned as premium home theatre options, designed for consumers seeking cinema-like experiences from their living rooms. The products offer speech clarity, wireless streaming options via Bluetooth line-in, and broader compatibility with voice assistants and smart TVs.
Meanwhile, the Era 100 Pro marks Sonos' first foray into the professional install market. Targeted at light-commercial environments and high-end residential projects, it offers PoE+ support (Power over Ethernet Plus), allowing power and data to flow through a single cable. It also introduces 'Zones', a new feature designed to simplify multi-speaker management in larger venues.
Physically, the Era 100 Pro has been engineered with flexibility in mind — it supports full-range rotation and tilt through optional pro-grade mounts and includes safety mechanisms that meet commercial installation standards. Acoustically, it shares its DNA with the existing Era 100 but promises better low-end response in a form factor suited for network-based audio deployments.

"Not Here To Negotiate For...": Trump On Russia-Ukraine 'Territory Swap'
Aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump said he would not negotiate on behalf of Ukraine in his Friday meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and would let Kyiv decide whether to engage in territorial swaps with Russia. Trump said his goal was to get the two sides to start a negotiation, with any territorial swaps to be addressed then. "They'll be discussed, but I've got to let Ukraine make that decision, and I think they'll make a proper decision. But I'm not here to negotiate for Ukraine, I'm here to get them at a table," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. Trump's remarks are likely to offer some assurance to Ukraine, which is worried that the US-Russia talks could freeze the conflict at Ukraine's expense. Trump said the Russian offensive in Ukraine was likely aimed at helping to strengthen Putin's hand in any negotiations to end the war. "I think they're trying to negotiate. He's trying to set a stage. In his mind that helps him make a better deal. It actually hurts him, but in his mind that helps him make a better deal if they can continue the killing," he said. The US president said he expected his meeting with Putin to produce results, given the stakes involved and weakness in the Russian economy. "He's a smart guy, been doing it for a long time but so have I ... we get along, there's a good respect level on both sides, and I think, you know, something's going to come of it," he said. Trump said it was a good sign that Putin was bringing business executives with him from Russia, but said no deals could be made until the war was settled. "I like that 'cause they want to do business, but they're not doing business until we get the war settled," he said.

Karnataka high court rejects I-T appeal against Sony India Software Centre
Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has dismissed an appeal filed by the income tax (I-T) department against Sony India Software Centre Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, in a case involving tax treatment of free assets and foreign consultancy payments. The appeal challenged a June 12, 2024 order of the I-T commissioner (appeals), Bengaluru, which had partly allowed the company's challenge to its assessment for the financial year 2016-17 (assessment year 2017-18). That order was later upheld by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Bengaluru, on Dec 13, 2024. At the centre of the dispute were two additions made by the assessing officer. The first, of more than Rs 1.4 crore, concerned assets received by the company from its overseas associated enterprises without cost. The second, a disallowance of nearly Rs 9.6 lakh, related to payments made to Singapore-based JL Services and Consultancy for employee workshops, allegedly without deduction of tax at source (TDS). The assessing officer increased this to Rs 44.8 crore by adding the value of the assets and disallowing the consultancy fee. The company argued that the assets were prototypes supplied solely for testing and were not income under Section 28(iv) of the Income Tax Act. It also maintained that the payments to the Singapore firm were for independent personal services and were exempt from TDS under the India–Singapore Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA). The CIT(A) accepted both arguments. It ruled that the fixed asset addition was unwarranted as the assets were covered under an Advance Pricing Agreement and depreciation had been factored in. The I-T department contended that the workshops did involve technical services and that TDS should have been deducted under Section 195. A division bench of Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Joshi rejected this view, noting there was no dispute that the free assets were returned and that the workshops were general training sessions for staff, without transfer of technical know-how. Finding no grounds to interfere, the court upheld the earlier orders and dismissed the appeal. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
