AI tool, ‘campus moms' to curb IIT Kharagpur student deaths
Kolkata: The rising number of student deaths on campus has prompted IIT Kharagpur to launch a first-of-its-kind AI-powered emotional health monitoring tool that enables anonymous self check-ins and early alert systems. Besides, the institute will also introduce an initiative titled 'campus mothers', under which wives of faculty members and staffers, along with mental health professionals, will offer the warmth of parental care and affection to holistically address the emotional crisis of students. "The app will be secured so that vulnerable student data is not leaked. The system will allow wardens, faculty advisors, and trained peer mentors to respond in real-time with contextual sensitivity," director Suman Chakraborty said. The tool is being developed by in-house experts and a consultancy tech firm. SETU will also include professional care by psychologists, psychiatrists, and counsellors. It will also focus on peer empowerment, and community bonding to address the well-being of students. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo "It is the students who can be vigilant and alert us whenever they see some complex behavioural change among their hostel mates," added Chakraborty, while explaining the peer-empowered initiative. The institute has witnessed three suicide deaths in six months and nine deaths in the last five years. "With 20,000 students and 15 mental health experts at the counselling centre, it is physically not possible to cater to the needs of the students. Therefore, we need technological intervention along with a human touch so that the quality of life of the students on campus becomes better," the director said. The initiative is being rolled out as a pilot project at IIT Kharagpur and will serve as a national model for the other IITs. TOI earlier reported about Sarth (Support, Acceptance, Resilience, Therapy, and Healing), which focused on upgrading the institute's counselling centre and offering one-on-one therapy and psychiatric consultations while maintaining confidentiality, hostel-level outreach programmes, 24/7 online counselling via Your Dost, among other measures.

AI takes guard to pick strongest cricket line-up
Vadodara: Scan the records of players, pick the best ones, and select a cricket team that can deliver the best. Selectors at the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) undergo an elaborate process to zero in on the best-performing players every few months. However artificial intelligence (AI) will now assist them to pick a team that has the maximum chances of beating the opponents. In a first, the BCA will introduce AI in their cricketing module. The new system will revolutionise the way teams are picked, players are coached, and cricketers practice. The association experimented with AI by roping in a firm in its maiden Baroda Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament that concluded recently. "We used AI in team score records and performance analysis during the BPL. The technology is quite impressive and a step ahead of the software currently used in sport. AI will be used to analyse the performance of players and give them customised coaching too," said Sheetal Mehta, BCA treasurer and member of the BPL council. BCA officials said that AI has great potential in transforming the way cricketers are coached and the sport is played. If a batsman is getting out on a particular type of delivery or against a certain bowler, the AI won't just analyse it but also offer top," said Snehal Parikh, CEO, BCA. "When the selectors meet the teams – junior or senior – the AI can analyse and offer the best combination considering the opponent team, weather conditions, and the venue where the match will be played. Of course, the selectors will then discuss the team combinations and pick the probable players as per their experience," said BCA officials, adding that the AI system will have to be fed the data and records of all its cricketers. Individual cricketers too will be able to assess their own game elaborately and work on improving their bowling, batting, or fielding. Even cricket clubs in Vadodara have decided on getting an AI system to hone the skills of their players and select the best team. "I have decided to take help from AI and get the best out of our club cricketers," said Harendra Patel, owner of Vadodara Cricket Academy.

Unlock tier-2 cities to boost growth of GCCs: MeitY joint secretary Secy KK Singh
About 95% of global capability centres ( GCCs ) in India are concentrated at six locations and the challenge is to broaden this base for greater inclusiveness, said KK Singh, joint secretary in ministry of electronics and information technology ( MeitY ), on Monday. At the GCC Summit in the national capital, Singh said identifying best practices from existing GCC hubs can provide direction for emerging locations to attract GCCs. The summit was organised by industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). "We have seen that GCCs are hardly opting for these tier-II cities," he said. "Our approach will be to take the best practices in the six (top) locations, and based on that, create guidelines for the other states to follow." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bộ kit 10000W: Giải pháp xanh cho gia đình LocalPlan Tìm Ngay Undo Speaking at the same event, Ajay Vij, senior country managing director for Accenture India, said the company has expanded to seven or eight emerging cities in the last three years.
