Cineverse and Iconic Events Releasing to Make Noise at Theaters with Wide Distribution of Silent Night, Deadly Night and Return to Silent Hill
LOS ANGELES, June 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Cineverse (Nasdaq: CNVS), a next-generation entertainment studio, and Bloody Disgusting, its horror division, have today announced that Iconic Events Releasing will be the theatrical distribution partner for the upcoming horror films Silent Night, Deadly Night and Return to Silent Hill.
Billy Chapman will make his return to theaters on December 12 in Silent Night, Deadly Night, which started production in April. The reboot of the franchise, Silent Night, Deadly Night is written and directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, V/H/S/85) and stars Rohan Campbell as Billy and Ruby Modine as Pamela, along with Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson.
Based on the popular video game series by KONAMI, Return to Silent Hill will be released January 23, 2026. The psychological horror thriller stars Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, War Horse) and Hannah Emily Anderson (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Jigsaw). Returning to the Silent Hill universe are director/co-writer Christophe Gans (Silent Hill (2006), Beauty and the Beast, Brotherhood of The Wolf) and Akira Yamaoka, original composer for the game franchise.

Silent Night, Deadly Night is produced by the original 1984 Tri-Star film's producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead and New Dimension's Jamie R. Thompson (Old Henry, Gunslingers), Rebel 6's Erik Bernard, and White Bear Films' Jeremy Torrie, with executive producers Steven Schneider (Insidious) Anthony Masi (Halloween: 25 Years of Terror, Unknown Dimension), and Sarah Eilts. Brandon Hill & Brad Miska (Terrifier 3) will oversee for Cineverse and will executive produce alongside Erick Opeka and Yolanda Macias, Bondit Media Capital's Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor. Financing by Bondit Media Capital and Royal Bank of Canada. Distribution outside of North America is being handled by Sixth Dimension, the new genre label of StudioCanal.
When it was released in 1984, the first Silent Night, Deadly Night quickly became the most controversial movie of the year. In a series of letters, parents demanded the film be pulled from theaters. According to Bloody Disgusting, Tri-Star, the film's original distributor, "responded to all the outrage by doing just that – an act that would ensure SNDN's place in the halls of horror film infamy. In an instant, Silent Night, Deadly Night transformed from just another slasher film to a veritable cult classic, the very people who sought to banish it from existence serving to make it one of the most must-see horror films of the entire decade."
Return to Silent Hill is the third installment in the game-to-screen horror film franchise, marking its 20th year since the first film, Silent Hill, was released in theaters. Starring Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean and directed by Christophe Gans, Silent Hill topped the box office its opening weekend in 2006. Silent Hill: Revelation followed in 2012 directed by M.J. Bassett and starring Kit Harington and Adelaide Clemens. Known for his deep reverence for the original game, Christophe Gans is back to direct Return to Silent Hill, driven to maintain the film adaptation's faithfulness to the game hoping fans will "enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer."
It follows James (Irvine), a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary (Anderson), ends. When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love. Produced by Victor Hadida of Davis Films (The Crow, Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises), Molly Hassell of Hassell Free Productions (The Crow, Terminal, Braven) and David Wulf (Call Jane, The Card Counter, Inheritance), the film is financed by Davis Films and Ashland Hill Media Finance. Oak Lawn based film discussion group marks 20th anniversary
For 15 years, Erik Martin had a pretty good thing going. Starting with showing the film 'Citizen Kane' on June 1, 2005, he founded the CineVerse group, which would meet at the Oak View Center in Oak Lawn. People from the area would drop by on Wednesday nights, watch a movie and discuss it. Roughly 10-20 people would show up each week for entertainment, conversation and sometimes lively debate. Then the pandemic hit. The best Martin could offer was to have members watch films on their own and then have a Wednesday night discussion via the online Zoom platform. 'It was like a book club,' Martin said. 'I thought Oak View would eventually reopen and we would go back to in-person each week.' But the group never went back to in-person. The dynamic of the club changed dramatically and five years later, CineVerse is still using Zoom as its platform. The group celebrated its 20th anniversary in June and the in-person format has become a distant memory. 'When we met in person, if we had three hours, two-plus would be spent watching the movie,' Martin said. 'There were typically 40 or 45 minutes to discuss. 'Now we have 90-plus minutes and, as you can imagine, there is much more robust and dynamic conversation.' Alsip's Janet Pierucci has been a member since the early days of the club and enjoyed the old format. She likes the new format just as much. 'This is working a lot better than I suspected,' she said. 'I didn't think Zoom would capture the magic of being able to watch the movie together. But you never knew how long you would be able to talk about a movie. It was nice watching the movie together, however, we now have a longer opportunity to be able to speak to each other.' The Zoom format allows people from across the country to interact. While it's still a small, exclusive group, it brings out people who are serious about film. 'It's open to a wider group of people,' Pierucci said. 'We get some strong aficionados. These people really know their films. They are so knowledgeable and have such incredible insight.' Among the group members are Barna Donovan, a professor of communications and media studies at St. Peter's the Jesuit College of New Jersey, and former New York Times film critic Ken Chanko. There is a former movie studio publicist, an author, a teacher and an attorney. 'We have some very bright people who are passionate about movies,' Martin said. The group celebrated 20 years of watching movies on June 11 by not watching a movie. 'I told everybody I would like them to complete a survey, and I was able to talk to each survey respondent about everything from their favorite movies, to their favorite snack at the theater,' Martin said. 'We spent a couple of hours as a commemoration of the 20 years. Everyone was better acquainted with everyone's tastes and talked about goals for the group.' Through June, the group has met 1,360 times and viewed 1,330 films. There have been 116 people who attended in person and 30 on Zoom over the years. Pierucci, 62, said that some of the contrary 'discourse' that arises during discussions is enjoyable to her. She said it's not as fun when everyone has the same opinion. She liked playing tennis in Oak Lawn and saw a notice from the Oak Lawn Park District about the group. 'I thought it looked interesting,' she said. 'I liked movies. I went on a Wednesday. And I've been with them ever since.' Martin is a freelance writer who is also known around Oak Lawn for his Halloween displays at his house. Over the last two decades, it's grown to 120 life-size figures. Aside from serious movies, he is a fan of monster movies. But it was a science fiction classic that ratcheted up his love for cinema. 'The film that changed my life was Star Wars in 1977,' Martin said. 'It was my Beatles on the 'Ed Sullivan Show' moment. I had never had that much fun in a movie theater. I realized movies were a transcendent experience, even at age eight. 'They can be fun and escapist. They can be deep and resonant and meaningful.'

The slasher scandal of 1984 gets an update in Silent Night, Deadly Night remake teaser
Terrifier 3 already saw Art The Clown ruin Christmas, but why stop there? The slasher business is booming, so it's as good a time as ever for Cineverse to bring back an old holiday horror: Silent Night, Deadly Night. Premiering December 12, the new film is billed as 'A reimagining of the controversial 1984 cult horror classic,' which scandalized audiences with its marketing campaign centered around a killer Santa Claus. More than 40 years later, here's the synopsis for the Cineverse remake: 'When Billy witnesses his parents' grisly murder on Christmas Eve at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the jolly red suit and delivers a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice. This Christmas Eve, Billy wants to know: 'Have you been naughty?'' The Silent Night, Deadly Night teaser gets right to it with ax-wielding action and blood splattering on Santa's (fake) snow-white beard. Audiences are probably more desensitized to the shock of a killer Santa in 2025, but in 1984 parents protested that the depiction—even just in the marketing—was traumatizing for kids. The outcry ultimately led to the ads being pulled from the press and later the film being pulled from theaters. Critics didn't dig it either, with Gene Siskel calling out everyone involved with making the movie and declaring 'Shame on you' on At The Movies. In 2012, The A.V. Club's Noel Murray had a milder view, observing it was 'as run-of-the-mill a slasher film as the '80s produced, enjoyable today primarily for its kitsch value.' Despite the controversy or the quality, the film was successful enough to spawn four sequels and a 'slick but soulless' (in Murray's words) remake starring Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King, and Donal Logue. Cineverse's new take stars Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) as Billy, with an ensemble cast that includes Ruby Modine, Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson.
