AAP objects to BJP leaders' photos on notebooks distributed to Surat students
The Opposition also pointed out the absence of Education Minister Praful Panseriya's photo, noting that he is from Surat, where the notebooks were distributed.
The development comes days after the Municipal Education Board, Surat (MEBS), had distributed educational kits, consisting of the said notebooks, among 1.80 lakh students, from Class 2 to 8, in Surat city, with each student receiving five notebooks, according to sources. A total of nine lakh books were distributed free of cost among the students.
The education kit comprised a compass box, a water bottle, a lunch box , and five notebooks.
The MEBS has 15 committee members, out of which 14 are from the BJP and one, Rakesh Hirpara, from AAP.
The notebook issue was raised by the AAP leader during the general board meeting of MEBS on Monday evening.
Appreciating the distribution of the educational kits, Rakesh Hirpara asked the chairman, Rajendra Kapadia, 'why photos of the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, BJP National president, state president, and Chief Minister were printed on the cover page of the notebooks?'.
Hirpara also asked about 'what role did they play in the education sector'.
'Photos of national heroes such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Dr B R Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh among others should have been there on the cover page of the notebook. By seeing these leaders daily, the students will get motivated, and can learn more from their lives,' the AAP leader said.
Countering Hirpara, one of the BJP members, also part of the MEBS, Vinod Gajera, said: 'These are the topmost leaders of the BJP. We have not put up a photo of (AAP National Convenor) Arvind Kejriwal, that is why you are annoyed'. Replying to Gajera's remarks, Hirpara retorted: 'Gujarat Education Minister Praful Panseriya is from Surat and even his photo is there on the poster in the conference room, so why is his photo not printed on the front cover page?'
Hirpara told The Indian Express, 'I objected to the photos on the cover page of the notebooks as instead of the photos of BJP leaders, it should have been the pictures of our national heroes so that the students could learn more from their lives. When I raised the question about the Panseriya's photo also missing from the cover page of the notebooks, they were silent.'
Meanwhile, MEB, Surat, Chairman Rajendra Kapadia said, 'Every year we distribute education kits among the students. This year, we have distributed over nine lakh books. The Municipal Education Board has spent Rs 7.43 crore on these kits. Last year, we had put up the photo of the Gujarat Education Minister on the front cover of the notebook, this year we had decided to do something new.'

Vadodara: Day after head of fire department, two other officers suspended over ‘scam', new appointees take charge
A day after Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu ordered the suspension of three officers, including Head of Department of Fire and Emergency Services Dr Devesh Patel, Chief Fire Officer Manoj Patil and Deputy Fire Officer Naitik Bhatt, the new officers appointed to the positions took charge on Wednesday. While Harendrasinh Chauhan has been appointed as the Chief Fire Officer, Amit Chaudhary has been given the charge of Deputy Fire Officer. The new appointments came a day after the suspensions of the three officials, including Dr Patel, who was also the Medical Officer, Health. The charge of the same has now been handed over to Dr Mukesh Vaidya. The suspensions came after an alleged scam in procurement of tools and items needed by the fire department came to light. Although the purchases were made by way of the government's e-marketplace portal and also passed through the Third Party Inspection (TPI) agency and the Vadodara Municipal Corporation's auditing department, besides the Standing Committee, officials said that the inflated prices 'went unnoticed'. An official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that several items in the tender, including whistles, lighters and mosquito nets had been bought at a cost of over Rs 3,500 each, for which tenders had been invited in February and March this year. The total procurement amount was Rs 3.17 crore for 16 pieces each of pocket knives, gas lighters, whistles and other tools. 'While a departmental inquiry is underway to ascertain how the discrepancy was not raised by the TPI and the auditing committee, the VMC is already staring at an internal controversy with the new appointments as those fire officials, who were hopeful of getting the posts vacated by Patil and Bhatt, have already sounded a rebellion… The fact is that no one pointed out the inflated cost of the items listed in the procurement list,' the official said.

Shinde meets PM, Shah, says will back NDA V-P nominee
New Delhi/Mumbai: leader and Dy CM on Wednesday announced his party's "unconditional support" to the NDA candidate for vice-president, potentially setting the line for other alliance partners to follow and increase chances of BJP getting one of its own appointed to the constitutional position after the Sept 9 election to the post. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On a visit to Delhi – his third in less than a month - Shinde made the announcement after meeting home minister at his Parliament office. The election for the vice-presidential post has been necessitated following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar last month. Shinde also met and congratulated him on the success of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. The twin interactions were seen as significant. Sources said the meeting attested to his equations with the BJP leadership with which it engineered downfall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA govt in 2022. Shinde said the Mahayuti will fight the local body elections in Maharashtra together. The deputy CM was accompanied by his wife Lata, son Shrikant and daughter-in-law Vrushali as the family gifted a photograph of Lord Shiva to the PM. Shinde said Modi praised his son who got the opportunity to lead a multi-party delegation that visited world capitals to convey India's message of zero tolerance to terrorism. Shinde also rejected suggestions that his frequent visits to Delhi are linked to his 'differences' with CM Devendra Fadnavis, saying they are working together for the state's development. Stating that PM Modi noted at a meeting of NDA MPs on Tuesday that Shah has become the longest-serving home minister, Shinde said he and his party MPs congratulated Shah on the milestone. He also hailed Shah for his "decisive" leadership, saying he fulfilled the dream of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray by abrogating Article 370.
