Rare Beauty's First Fragrance Is Here — & I'm Obsessed

As much as I love the idea of smelling like a sexy cupcake, the truth is that most gourmand scents aren't really my cup of tea. I'm all for intoxicating and warm, but heady and saccharine get a pass from me. I have a few fragrances that I genuinely love and reach for often — 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods and Gucci Flora Gorgeous Orchid being a couple favorites — but a new bombshell has entered the villa, and her name is Rare.
When Selena Gomez announced her debut fine fragrance for Rare Beauty, I was intrigued and cautiously optimistic; I'm a genuine fan of the brand, and admit that there isn't a Rare product that I haven't tried and loved. Described as a 'warm, spicy scent' with notes of vanilla, caramel, and sandalwood, the scent intrigued me. It's admittedly hard to judge a fragrance from an on-paper description alone, but I was eager to test it nonetheless. Perhaps most notably, Rare Beauty also announced an accompanying suite of fragrance layering balms designed to be worn alone or with the Rare eau de parfum to customize the scent to the wearer.
To establish a control, I first embarked on wearing Rare alone to see how much I liked the juice itself before adding the balms. At first sniff, I definitely got that creme brûlée-y, vanilla scent, but it was more warm than sugary. However, as it dried down, I noticed that it was the nutty, woody notes that lingered most. (Also, it's worth shouting out the bottle design; it was designed in partnership with certified hand therapists and a team of packaging engineers to be ergonomic and easier to dispense for those with limited mobility and dexterity.)
Onto the layering balms — there are four in total, retailing for $19 apiece: Amber, Fresh, Floral, and Woody. While the names reflect some of the most popular categories in perfumery, each balm has a curated blend of notes and can be worn alone as its own fragrance. Unlike solid perfumes (which can be kind of Vaseline-y), these remind me of a silicone makeup primer in texture — clear, with a satiny-matte, dry-touch feel.
As I tested each balm over the course of a (very good-smelling) week, I found that each one really transformed the Rare scent itself into something totally different. (This is a nerdy analogy, but it's sort of like how the Pokémon Eevee can be evolved into a variety of different forms depending on the stone used.) I must be full of surprises lately, because my favorite of the bunch ended up being Amber, which has prominent notes of vanilla and candied amber. When paired with the Rare perfume, it truly felt like the olfactive equivalent of a warm hug with your favorite person, with a subtle hint of fresh cookies being baked in the background. Honorable mention went to Floral (again, not something I would've predicted), which was a youthful, bright blend of peony blossom that made me lean into my feminine side. (Bonus: I feel like the balms helped extend the wear of the fragrance itself – I couldn't stop smelling my wrists throughout the whole day.) I almost preferred Fresh and Woody worn alone, but I can't wait to experiment with layering the balms with other fragrances in my collection — the concept itself is a true joy for any perfume lover.
At $75 for a 1.7 fluid ounce bottle, Rare is actually one of the more affordable scents in the prestige scent space. It's a really elevated take on gourmands, and one that I personally haven't stopped wearing ever since receiving it. Because it has such a warm, almost skin-like quality, it doesn't feel seasonal or trend-focused; rather, it feels at once modern yet timeless – and that's rare.

Selena Gomez's Pink Mocha Nails Are the Perfect End of Summer, Start of Fall Set

Just when you thought we had our color set for the last of the summer nail tech appointments, along comes Selena Gomez and her mocha pink nails. It's a sweet manicure, without being cloying, and with a natural touch. According to Pantone, the official color of 2025 has been 'Mocha Mousse.' (This followed 2024's 'Peach Fuzz,' and the previous year's 'Viva Magenta'). Mocha Mousse is a soft, warm shade that brings to mind creamy chocolate and coffee, a tone that connects to beauty and fashion's ongoing love affair with brown. The Rare Beauty founder has long been a fan of elevating the classic and elegant, which is exactly what her latest nail shade—concocted with her nail artist of choice, Tom Bachik—does. So why not add a few drops of pink to the Mocha Mousse equation? The result is a delicate, minimalist shade, a soft and sweet statement. The pop star, actor, and beauty mogul wore the manicure for a recent night in L.A. celebrating her first Rare Beauty perfume, Rare Eau de Parfum. The gourmand offering features notes of caramel, vanilla, and sandalwood—'warm with just a touch of spice,' as she so recently told Vogue. She's leaned into those sweet, delectable tones throughout the promo, on another day, hosting a perfume-themed baking class with fiancé Benny Blanco, where they made pistachio and caramel tiramisu. A similarly deliciously shaded manicure? A textbook Gomez detail. To go with the nail shade, Gomez wore a shimmering, almost-bridal halter-neck dress by Cult Gaia, combined with a high, polished ponytail by Renato Campora, and a brown smoky eye with a pink-glossed caramel lip by makeup artist Hung Vanngo. Gomez kept her mocha pink nails in the on-trend, round and short shape—a failsafe elegant silhouette, too.

Renée Zellweger and Logan Lerman Play Billionaire Murder Suspects in First ‘Only Murders in the Building' Season 5 Trailer

Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building is nearly upon us, and now there's a new poster, release date, and trailer — starring Logan Lerman and Renée Zellweger as some of the world's richest individuals — to prove it. On Tuesday, Hulu announced that the Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short-led comedy series will return for another Big Apple adventure on Tuesday, September 9, debuting the first three episodes and then moving to weekly release after, rolling out through late October. 'After their beloved doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca), dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia,' a description for Season 5 reads, teasing the arrival of Zellweger, Lerman, and Christoph Waltz's characters. It continues, 'The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.' Based on the newly-dropped trailer, it appears that Lerman, Zellweger, and Waltz will be playing three meddling billionaires who the trio stumble upon while investigating Lester's death, which appears to be tied in some way to old-school mobsters of NYC… or Staten Island, according to the video. It's unclear how this new cast of characters each made their money but the murder board in the trailer tells us that Lerman is playing Jay Pflug, Zellweger is playing Camila White, and Waltz is portraying Bash Steed. After the trip to La La Land (aka Los Angeles) in Season 4 where Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, and Eugene Levy all guest-starred as themselves, Season 5 is bringing in Bobby Cannavale, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest, and Jermaine Fowler in secret roles. Also appearing in Season 5 is Téa Leoni, who made a surprise appearance in the final moments of the Season 4 finale, playing Sofia Caccimelio, the wife of Nicky Caccimelio — the missing 'Dry Cleaning King of Brooklyn' introduced via a news clip in the penultimate episode. No word on who is playing Nicky — we predict it could be Cannavale, who the trailer shows interacting with Lester prior to his death — but it appears Nicky's disappearance will play a role in the fifth season, although that will just have to be revealed when the new episodes air. Along with the release date's announcement and the trailer, the streaming service dropped the first poster for Season 5, which sees Mabel, Oliver, and Charles sitting and standing on a skyline built out of cards, with the tagline, 'The building always wins,' teasing a foray into the underbelly of New York City gangsters, something co-creator John Hoffman alluded to in a DECIDER interview last year. 'Our beloved doorman has a hold of a large amount of tenants in our buildings' secrets and many other things about his life were interesting for me to sort of explore. The very nature of a doorman in a pre-war apartment building, a New York City in 2025. [It] felt very, very interesting to look at in terms of what our show has always been about, which is classic meets newer,' Hoffman shared. We really are dipping our toe into a New York City in Season 5 that feels particularly ripped from the headlines in certain ways that we've not done before.' The first four seasons of Only Murders In The Building are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Season 5 premieres on Tuesday, September 9. How To Watch Only Murders In The Building If you're new to Hulu, you can get started with a 30-day free trial on the streamer's basic (with ads) plan. After the trial period, you'll pay $9.99/month. If you want to upgrade to Hulu ad-free, it costs $18.99/month. HULU DISNEY+ BUNDLES If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you're at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the Disney+ Bundles, all of which include Hulu. These bundles start at $10.99/month for ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu and goes up to $29.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max, all ad-free.

Odds Favor Sabrina Carpenter As The Most Likely Artist To Be Featured In Taylor Swift's 12th Album

Taylor Swift has just set the music world ablaze with the surprise announcement of her 12th studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl." Revealing the title during an unforgettable crossover with NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce, Swift kept key details under wraps. However, fresh odds suggest some high-profile names, notably Sabrina Carpenter, could be sharing the spotlight. Taylor Swift Could Team Up With Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Or Selena Gomez While Swift remained tight-lipped on her new album's tracklist, betting experts at were quick to offer odds on who might feature on "The Life of a Showgirl." At the top of the list is Sabrina Carpenter, with a hefty 60% implied probability (2/3 fractional odds). VegasInsider's spokesperson pointed to a recent Taylor Nation Instagram carousel teasing the album, where the final photo showed Swift and Carpenter performing together on The Eras Tour, making Carpenter the only guest in the series. Given the album's rumored pop-heavy direction, Carpenter would be a natural fit. Ed Sheeran follows at 15% probability (283/5 fractional odds). Sheeran is Swift's most frequent collaborator, appearing on 'Everything Has Changed' and 'Run' from "Red," 'End Game' from "Reputation," and teaming up again for the remix of his own 'The Joker and the Queen.' The fact that 'End Game' is the only Swift collab included in a recent Spotify playlist she shared has fueled speculation this could be a subtle hint. Selena Gomez sits in third at 10% probability (9/1 fractional odds). Though the two have been friends for over a decade, they've never officially collaborated on a track. Swift recently praised Gomez's project "I Said I Love You First" with Benny Blanco, which VegasInsider interprets as either a kind gesture or a sly signal. Pop Royalty, Legends, And Past Collaborators In The Mix VegasInsider's odds also spotlight some jaw-dropping possibilities. Beyoncé and Lady Gaga are tied at 5% probability (19/1 odds). Swift has publicly praised both artists in the past, and a duet with either would send the pop culture universe into overdrive. Other names in the mix include SZA and Stevie Nicks, both at 2.5% odds. SZA has recently spoken highly of Swift, while Stevie Nicks, who once penned a heartfelt letter praising Swift's songwriting, would bring rock royalty gravitas. Past collaborators Gracie Abrams, Kendrick Lamar, and Ice Spice are all given 1% odds. Swift's history of working with the same artists across multiple projects keeps these possibilities alive, even if the numbers are slim. A Surprise Taylor Swift Reveal on the Kelce Brothers' Turf Swift's 12th era exploded onto the scene via the "New Heights" podcast, hosted by NFL brothers Travis and Jason Kelce. On August 11, speculation was already swirling about Swift's first-ever appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's show and fans weren't disappointed. The pop megastar entered with a touch of theater, greeting the brothers and teasing, 'Can I show you something?' Jason immediately noticed the mint-green briefcase emblazoned with 'T.S.' and asked, 'Okay. What do we got? We got a briefcase? Mint green, with T.S. on it.' When pressed on its contents, Swift dropped the bombshell, saying, 'This is my brand new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.'' The reveal drew a joyful outburst from Travis, who shouted, 'TS 12!.' Fans' Observations After Swift's Announcement While the podcast set offered no direct glimpse of the album cover, Taylor Swift's website lit up with clues. The homepage transformed into a blurred palette of orange and green, instantly triggering speculation from her famously investigative fanbase. The site also rolled out pre-order options for vinyl, cassette, and CD editions, with the CD promising a special poster. Keen-eyed viewers dissecting the "New Heights" backdrop spotted even more potential clues including a row of orange-covered books featuring works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Marc Chagall, and Ruth Asawa. Other notable items included a silver microphone, a football, and a book on Mark Rothko, known for his abstract, often orange-toned art. Another volume centered on Charles and Ray Eames, design icons of the 20th century. What This Means For Taylor Swift's 12th Era If there's one thing the "The Life of a Showgirl" announcement has proven, it's that Swift knows how to control a narrative while keeping her fans guessing. From the unexpected Kelce podcast appearance to the cryptic visual hints and now the betting odds fueling speculation, Swift has orchestrated yet another media moment that blends music, sport, and pop culture. Whether the final tracklist delivers Carpenter's youthful pop sparkle, Sheeran's melodic hooks, Gomez's sultry tone, or an A-list curveball like Beyoncé or Gaga, one certainty is that Swift's 12th album is shaping up to be a blockbuster and the world will be watching for every clue along the way.
