Uzbek Gov't Delegation Tours Agricultural Projects, Research Centers in Egypt

An Uzbek government delegation headed by the Director of the Cabinet Secretariat for Investment, Export, Trade, Agriculture and Water Resources visited several agricultural projects and research centers during a four-day visit to Egypt.
The Uzbek delegation began its field trip with a visit to the Agricultural Research Center, where they were briefed on the center's research activities and its efforts to achieve food security and improve crop productivity. They also visited the Excellence and Innovation Exhibition.
The Uzbek delegation also visited the Desert Research Center, where they learned about the center's efforts to address the challenges of desertification and climate change.
The Uzbek group expressed their great admiration for Egypt's experience in establishing integrated agricultural communities aimed at achieving social stability and sustainable development, commending the role of the Desert Research Center in providing pioneering models and practical solutions to environmental and agricultural challenges in desert regions.
They also inspected the "Future of Egypt" sustainable agriculture project, the first project aimed at achieving self-sufficiency and exporting surpluses. The targeted area for reclamation is 1.5 million feddans, out of the total area of the New Delta project, which amounts to 2.2 million feddans.
They affirmed Uzbekistan's keenness to exchange successful experiences with Egypt in land reclamation, natural resource management, and modern agriculture, especially in light of the environmental and climate challenges facing both countries.

Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship: Egyptian Startups Attract $228M in Funding from January to May 2025
Ahmed Emam The Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship announced that Egypt's startup structure witnessed significant development in attracting venture capital investments and debt financing during the first five months of this year, reaching $228 million, based on deals monitored since the beginning of the year. A statement issued by the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship clarified that 16 deals were executed from January to May 2025, including 11 deals with announced investment volumes totaling $156 million. These investments represent a 130% increase compared to the investment volume during the same period last year (2024). Moreover, "Nawy" and "MNT-Halan" successfully secured debt financing of $23 million and $49 million, respectively. In this context, Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and head of the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship, affirmed that these indicators reflect the continuous activity in Egypt's startup market, particularly with the measures taken by the state to improve the investment climate and business environment, making it more conducive and attractive for companies of all types. This is in addition to ongoing endeavors to implement structural reforms to ensure sustainable macroeconomic stability. Al-Mashat pointed out that startups and the investment climate, in general, receive paramount attention from the Egyptian state, led by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic of Egypt, and various relevant authorities. She highlighted that the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship is working on finalizing the Startup Charter, as well as funding initiatives and facilities that stimulate efforts to attract venture capital investments. Al-Mashat also reiterated that the Egyptian government has taken significant steps to empower startups and enhance their ability to attract larger investments, notably including tax incentives for companies with revenues less than EGP 20 million. Minister Al-Mashat noted that the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship adopts a comprehensive and integrated approach to support Egyptian youth in the field of entrepreneurship. The Ministerial Group's main objective is to strengthen the ability of startups and the entrepreneurial environment to achieve sustainable and accelerated economic growth based on competitiveness and knowledge, as part of the state's plan to put Egypt on the global map of entrepreneurship. In a related context, Egypt's startup market underwent a series of exit and acquisition deals, most notably Dubizzle's acquisition of the online car trading platform "Hatla2ee," and MaxAB-Wasoko's acquisition of "Fatora." The PropTech (property technology) sector led in terms of venture capital investment volume, accounting for 33% of total investments, while the FinTech (financial technology) sector led in the number of deals with 5 transactions, representing 32% of the total investment volume during the same period. EU Seeks to Help Egypt Build Forests to Combat Climate Change
Taarek Refaat Hany El Kateb, Presidential Advisor for Agricultural Affairs said that several European countries are interested in helping establish forests in arid regions, particularly in Egypt. The presidential advisor explained that there are four major projects proposed to establish tree forests in Egypt. El-Kateb added, during a call-in on one of the TV channels, that planting trees and forests has many benefits, and that what has been established in Egypt has been wasted. He added that Egypt does not have the idea of establishing forests, calling for the establishment of tree forests, which would help combat climate change. He continued: In the mid-1990s, a pioneering project was implemented using wastewater to grow timber trees. It was one of the most successful projects, but it was wasted. El-Kateb pointed out that the trees were irrigated with wastewater, while at the same time we provided them with the necessary fertilizer through nutrients found in wastewater, such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Labor Minister meets Egyptian Workers in Serbia
Taarek Refaat Minister of Labor Mohamed Gebran concluded his visit to Serbia on Saturday with a visit to Agrovida, one of the largest labor recruitment companies in Serbia. The minister was received by the company's director, Felicia Stamatovic. Minister Gebran also visited Egyptian workers at their work sites. Gebran assured the workers that they are envoys to their countries abroad, and that communication channels are open with them at all times. He explained that he was keen to meet with them and check on their well-being as part of his ongoing monitoring of the conditions of Egyptian workers abroad. Minister Gebran began his visit to Serbia yesterday, Friday, in the presence of Ambassador Basil Salah, Egypt's Ambassador to Belgrade, and Ibrahim Hamza El Sheikh, Deputy Ambassador. During the visit, he held meetings with the Minister of Labor, the Minister of Interior, the President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Director of the Serbian National Employment Agency. The aim was to activate cooperation and open the Serbian labor market to trained Egyptian workers.
