UFC on ESPN 68 winner Mateusz Gamrot talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Ludovit Klein.
LAS VEGAS – Mateusz Gamrot not only wants to beat Benoit Saint Denis, but he also wants him to change his fighter nickname.
Following a dominant win over Ludovit Klein at Saturday's UFC on ESPN 68, Gamrot (25-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) called out the Frenchman, and he did so by taking a shot at his "God of War" nickname. Gamrot, who had been searching for a fight for months prior to the Klein booking, claims he was offered to be Saint Denis' replacement opponent for UFC 315 earlier in May, but Saint Denis turned him down and ended up fighting and submitting Kyle Prepolec.
The move didn't sit well with Gamrot, and now he wants to fight him in the UFC's expected show in Paris in September.
"I can change Benoit Saint Denis' nickname," Gamrot told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 68 post-fight press conference. "He has the nickname 'God of War,' but I can change his nickname to 'God of Comfort Zone' because bro, he got offered to fight with me one week before, and many times he called me out. So he gets opportunity and he says no. Bro, what the f*ck? 'God of Comfort Zone.'"
Gamrot fought an unranked opponent in Klein this past Saturday, something that's relatively unusual for someone who's just outside the top five of the UFC official lightweight rankings. The Polish fighter admits being frustrated at the difficulty he's faced lately in getting the bigger names in the division.
"When I came to Florida, I always asked to give me the fight, but this moment everybody was booked in the ranking, so I had two options: Wait a few months later and get someone from ranking or take someone without ranking and be active," Gamrot said. "So the choice for me was clear: I want to fight. Of course, this was a big risk, but like I said before, If you be live in yourself and your skills, you can fight with everybody. I did this, I took this fight. It was a big risk, but I won tonight, so I'm so happy: double check."

Atletico Madrid announce extensions for Antoine Griezmann and club captain

Atletico Madrid have announced new deals for veteran duo Antoine Griezmann and Koke Resurreccion. The veteran duo, for many years the face of this Atletico side, have moved into secondary roles of late. There was no shortage of speculation over Griezmann's future in March and April as the Frenchman sat down with Los Rojiblancos for contract talks. Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move to Major League Soccer, where he has voiced a desire to play at the end of his career. Yet on Monday it was announced by Atletico that Griezmann had extended his deal until 2027, in deal Marca say will benefit the club in terms of their salary limit. Their information is that Griezmann will continue to earn €8m (previously his deal was valid until 2026), but that it will be divided between two campaigns. Koke Resurreccion also extends deal Captain Koke also saw his contract extended by a year until 2026, as he looks to continue adding to his record of appearances, currently on 681. The 33-year-old has a rolling contract that him and Atletico can agree to extend at the end of every year. Image via Atletico de Madrid. Difficult season for Griezmann It has undoubtedly been Antoine Griezmann's most difficult season at Atletico since returning to the club from Barcelona. The 34-year-old, Atletico's all-time leading goalscorer with 197 goals, started off his usual brilliant self alongside Julian Alvarez up front. Advertisement Yet by the midpoint of the season, his form started to wane, and Griezmann struggled dreadfully for production in front of goal, eventually losing his spot in the side in the final weeks. The former France international finished with 16 goals and nine assists in his 53 appearances. Different role ahead of Griezmann? It has certainly opened up the question ahead of next season. Julian Alvarez will lead the line for Atletico, and the Club World Cup could be a good indication of where Alexander Sorloth lies in the pecking order, just as much as it will be for Griezmann. Koke has already transitioned to a role as an alternative, option off the bench and dressing room leader, and Griezmann could be on his way to similar.

UFC full fight video: Julianna Peña pulls off all-time stunner against GOAT Amanda Nunes

Dec. 11, 2021 was one of the most shocking days in MMA history. At UFC 269, Julianna Peña pulled off one of the biggest, if not the biggest, upsets in history when she stopped all-time great Amanda Nunes and took her UFC women's bantamweight crown. Nunes entered the fight on a 12-fight winning streak, a run that spanned six years and eliminated any debate on who's the greatest pound-for-pound female fighter in MMA history. Few expected Peña to win, yet she marched forward and out-slugged the Brazilian to eventually lock in a submission. Advertisement You can rewatch Peña's huge upset win in the video above. Peña (13-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) returns to the octagon Saturday in the co-main event of UFC 316 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. She starts her second title reign with an attempted defense against two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time PFL champion Kayla Harrison (18-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who is a massive favorite as the challenger to win the belt.
