Paddy Pimblett labelled 'idiot from Europe' and targeted by formidable UFC star
The Liverpudlian is targeting a return to action later this year and has recently been called out by a fellow top contender in the lightweight division Polish MMA star Mateusz Gamrot has called for a fight with Paddy Pimblett following his impressive victory on Saturday night. The 34-year-old didn't mince words, dubbing Pimblett as the 'idiot from Europe' when naming opponents he would like to fight next. Currently sitting just a one sport above Liverpool's own in the lightweight division at number seven, Gamrot is itching for the challenge. Since joining the UFC ranks in 2020, Gamrot has been nothing short of formidable. He has amassed a respectable 8-3 record within the promotion. With a professional record of 25-3, the Polish powerhouse has dispatched notable fighters such as Jeremy Stephens, Carlos Diego Ferreira, Arman Tsarukyan, Jalin Turner, Rafael Fiziev, and Rafael dos Anjos. On Saturday night, Gamrot clinched another victory, cruising to a unanimous decision over Ludovit Klein at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Post-fight, UFC icon Daniel Cormier was quick to ask the 34-year-old who he would like to fight next. "Everybody, bro, everybody," declared Gamrot. "Give me the list. I want to fight with everybody... Paddy [Pimblett] is the idiot from Europe, I want to fight with him. But like you said, if Benoit Saint-Denis want the smoke? [That's] another easy fight. Paris, main event, five rounds, give me this guy [Saint-Denis]." Gamrot's call-out comes not long after Pimblett picked up the biggest win of his career against Michael Chandler. From start-to-finish, the Liverpool native dominated proceedings as he picked up a vicious knockout in the third round. He has since called for top lightweight contenders as he targets a return to the cage before the end of the year. Pimblett is setting his sights on an October showdown with Justin Gaethje, believing a win would put him at the front of the queue for a UFC lightweight title shot. "I know for a fact if I beat Gaethje, I'm next in line. Definitely. It could be (the next fight)," Pimblett revealed to TNT Sports. "It's just if he says yeah or not. Because he's fighting down the rankings again. Abu Dhabi. October. That pay-per-view. That's when I want to fight. That's what I'll be gearing towards. After what I've done to (Michael) Chandler, I think I finish Justin Gaethje... Yeah, that'd be nice [to fight Gaethje]." He added: "But I was thinking about it the other day: It's probably better if Ilia wins the belt, because he'll probably call me out and then I could just fight him. Maybe I wouldn't even fight Gaethje, [and I could] just fight Topuria... It'd be far better for my career if Ilia wins because I'd, more than likely, be his first title defence."

Mateusz Gamrot calls out 'God of Comfort Zone' Benoit Saint Denis for UFC Paris showdown
Mateusz Gamrot calls out 'God of Comfort Zone' Benoit Saint Denis for UFC Paris showdown Mateusz Gamrot shoots his shot following his win at Saturday's UFC on ESPN 68. Show Caption Hide Caption Mateusz Gamrot calls for top lightweights after halting Ludovit Klein UFC on ESPN 68 winner Mateusz Gamrot talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Ludovit Klein. LAS VEGAS – Mateusz Gamrot not only wants to beat Benoit Saint Denis, but he also wants him to change his fighter nickname. Following a dominant win over Ludovit Klein at Saturday's UFC on ESPN 68, Gamrot (25-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) called out the Frenchman, and he did so by taking a shot at his "God of War" nickname. Gamrot, who had been searching for a fight for months prior to the Klein booking, claims he was offered to be Saint Denis' replacement opponent for UFC 315 earlier in May, but Saint Denis turned him down and ended up fighting and submitting Kyle Prepolec. The move didn't sit well with Gamrot, and now he wants to fight him in the UFC's expected show in Paris in September. "I can change Benoit Saint Denis' nickname," Gamrot told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 68 post-fight press conference. "He has the nickname 'God of War,' but I can change his nickname to 'God of Comfort Zone' because bro, he got offered to fight with me one week before, and many times he called me out. So he gets opportunity and he says no. Bro, what the f*ck? 'God of Comfort Zone.'" Gamrot fought an unranked opponent in Klein this past Saturday, something that's relatively unusual for someone who's just outside the top five of the UFC official lightweight rankings. The Polish fighter admits being frustrated at the difficulty he's faced lately in getting the bigger names in the division. "When I came to Florida, I always asked to give me the fight, but this moment everybody was booked in the ranking, so I had two options: Wait a few months later and get someone from ranking or take someone without ranking and be active," Gamrot said. "So the choice for me was clear: I want to fight. Of course, this was a big risk, but like I said before, If you be live in yourself and your skills, you can fight with everybody. I did this, I took this fight. It was a big risk, but I won tonight, so I'm so happy: double check."

Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 68
Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 68 Mateusz Gamrot and Ludovit Klein meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 68 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 3-1 UFC main cards, 2025: 46-39-1 Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein UFC on ESPN 68 preview Gamrot (24-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) aims to rebound from a Fight of the Night war against Dan Hooker, which he narrowly lost by split deciison. Prior to the setback, Gamrot was on a three-fight winning streak, in which he took out Jalin Turner, Rafael Fiziev and Rafael dos Anjos. Currently ranked No. 10 in the latest USA TODAY/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, Gamrot faces an unranked opponent. ... Klein (23-4-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) gets a big step up in competition. Having not experienced defeat in seven fights, Klein has picked up six wins and one draw on his current run, including three victories last year. Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein UFC on ESPN 68 expert pick, prediction The co-main event in Las Vegas features a lightweight showdown between Gamrot and Klein. Despite Klein deserving a solid step up in competition, this feels like a big step down for Gamrot, given his arguable relevance in the division. Sure, the Polish fighter is coming off of an upset loss to Dan Hooker last year, but it was an incredibly close and competitive contest that saw an upper-class journeyman combine all his veteran skills and doggedness to have his day. Perhaps Klein could have his day here, but he's never faced a wrestling or pace threat at the level of Gamrot before. And though Klein looks to have incredibly strong hips to fuel his solid first layer of takedown defense, he's also an athlete who hates extended exchanges considering his need for pockets to recoup. So, unless Klein can catch Gamrot with a nasty front teep or check hook early, then I suspect that the Polish fighter will use the smaller octagon to create the cartoonish scramble-fests he's accustomed to. Add in the fact that Gamrot is officially 5-0 when fighting inside the Apex and stands 4-1-1 against UFC-level southpaws, and I can't help but side with Gamrot to remind the masses with a submission win in Round 2. Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein UFC on ESPN 68 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the Polish fighter, listing Gamrot -168 and Klein +136 via FanDuel. Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein UFC on ESPN 68 start time, how to watch As the co-main event, Gamrot and Klein are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 11:40 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN+.

UFC on ESPN 68: Mateusz Gamrot explains struggle to land ranked opposition
UFC on ESPN 68: Mateusz Gamrot explains struggle to land ranked opposition Mateusz Gamrot had no choice, but to fight out the UFC official rankings. Show Caption Hide Caption Mateusz Gamrot wants to 'ruin' Ludovit Klein's record statistics UFC on ESPN 68's Mateusz Gamrot spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters at media day for his lightweight bout vs. Ludovit Klein on Saturday in Las Vegas. LAS VEGAS – Mateusz Gamrot finds himself nearing the top five of the UFC official rankings, yet he's fighting an unranked opponent this weekend. Gamrot (24-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) takes on Ludovit Klein (23-4-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 68 (ESPN, ESPN+) – which takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex. Gamrot admits it's not the fight he wanted, as he was hoping for someone in the rankings. However, he basically had no choice, as he spent months trying to get matched up with ranked opposition. "This was like hard to get the opponent," Gamrot said at Wednesday's media day. "I came to Florida in January. I hope that I get to fight soon, but this moment, like everyone was booked from the ranking, and I put pressure on UFC like, 'Ok, guys. If everyone is busy, give me guys without ranking. It doesn't matter to me. I want to stay active this year. I want to fight.' And that's why I'm fighting Ludovit Klein today." Gamrot, 34, is coming off a split decision loss to Dan Hooker last August in Australia. Prior to the defeat, he was on a three-fight winning streak and 7-1 in his last eight fights. The American Top Team fighter feels success in the UFC is not just winning, but also putting on a show. That's why he intends to finish Klein come Saturday. "Of course, it's better if you get guys from the rankings, and you beat them, and you move up in the ranking, but I know the most important for the UFC is to put on good performances in the cage," Gamrot said. "It doesn't matter if it's against guys in the ranking or no ranking. If you finish this guy, your positions move up. This is my mindset and my career is a fantastic journey."

UFC's Mateusz Gamrot explains dislike for 'arrogant' Paddy Pimblett
UFC's Mateusz Gamrot explains dislike for 'arrogant' Paddy Pimblett Mateusz Gamrot is not a fan of fellow UFC lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett. Gamrot (24-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) mocked Pimblett (22-4 MMA, 7-0 UFC) after he was brought to tears watching his teammate Molly McCann retire after UFC Fight Night 255 in London. He explained why he has an issue with Liverpool native, who finds himself on the cusp of title contention after a dominant finish of Michael Chandler at UFC 314. "I don't like this guy," Gamrot said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "He talks too much. He's arrogant from England. He has talked some things about me many times. I'd love to meet him in the octagon because his way to this position he has right now was so easy. If he gets a good opponent against him, I don't think he wins this fight. I'd love fight with him. He's from Europe, I am from Europe. "If the UFC makes this fight, I think it's going to be the biggest fight in the lightweight division for Europe. My opinion, he's great stylistic (matchup) for me, and I'll beat him for sure. He's a grappler, I am grappler. I love scrambling with somebody on the ground because my previous opponent (Hooker) was only a striker. The ground was fire for everybody, and everybody stands up. I'd love to roll with somebody on the ground." Gamrot meets Ludovit Klein (23-4-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) in a three-round bout May 31 at UFC on ESPN 68 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. He explains why he wound up drawing an unranked lightweight. "I tried to find somebody from rankings to get a good fight, but everybody was booked or nobody wanted to fight with me," Gamrot said. "I told the UFC it doesn't matter. Give me someone without ranking because I want to stay busy this year. I just want to fight and show how I have improved my MMA skills."
