‘I got that one wrong' – Eni Aluko opens up on Ian Wright row and Match of the Day legend's refusal to accept apology
ENI ALUKO admits she was "wrong" to suggest Ian Wright has blocked opportunities for female pundits and "respects" his decision not to accept her public apology.
Aluko, 38, and Wright, 61, were caught in a storm back in April when the former Lioness insinuated the Arsenal legend is getting in the way in women's football.

The ex-Chelsea ace spoke about the importance of making sure female pundits were not blocked by men, suggesting there is a finite amount of opportunities and men need to be aware of that.
Aluko told Radio Four's Women's Hour three months ago: "I've worked with Ian a long time and, you know, I think he's a brilliant broadcaster.
"But I think he's aware of just how much he's doing in the women's game. I think he should be aware of that.
"We need to be conscious and we need to make sure that women are not being blocked from having a pathway into broadcasting in the women's game."

Aluko has since apologised to Wright after public backlash, but the Match of the Day legend was left "very disappointed" and is unable to accept.
Now the former Juventus ace has held her hands up and conceded she could have handled the whole situation in a better manner.
Aluko told The Mirror: "I think I could have done better in responding to the question I was asked, and just keeping it as a general issue.
"I've always been the person, to be honest, to hold my hands up and say: 'Listen, I got that one wrong. That was, that was a mistake'. If I had been on the other end, I would probably have felt the same.

"Apologies are acts of respect. Apologies are a show of humility. I did a lot to try to apologise to Ian privately.
"So when you're seeing a public apology, it's actually the last resort. But it was a public forum that I spoke about him on, and I felt a public apology was important.

"I respect that [Wright's refusal to accept her apology]. I respect how he feels. It's really about my apology. That's all I can do.

"Then, whenever the person's ready to have a conversation, I'm ready to have a conversation. But I respect if it's not the right time, I totally respect that."
Aluko has since returned to punditry as she covers this summer's Women's European Championships.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will reportedly return to LaLiga after departing the north London club as a free agent at the end of last season. Partey 'denies all the charges against him' and 'welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name', his lawyer said in early July. The Metropolitan Police said the investigation into Partey began in February 2022 after officers first received a report of rape. He was first arrested in July 2022, though he was not named at the time and continued to play for Arsenal while investigations were ongoing. He played more than 50 games for Arsenal while on bail, it has emerged. In a statement, his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, of Hickman and Rose, said: 'Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. A surprising transfer request has emerged from the Liverpool star's homeland, which could have significant implications for the player's future on Merseyside. Liverpool acquired Chiesa, 27, from Juventus for £12.5m, marking Arne Slot 's only signing in his inaugural summer as head coach. He agreed to a four-year contract at Anfield, but his first year was marred by injuries and difficulty securing regular Premier League playtime. Yet, talks have stalled, with Gazzetta dello Sport among several sources reporting a rejected £39.2m (€45m) offer. Lookman has now dropped a bombshell, accusing his club of blocking a transfer and confirming he has submitted a formal transfer request. On X, he penned: "Over the past three years at Atalanta, I've given absolutely everything. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. "I've always worn the shirt with pride and tried to represent this club and the city of Bergamo with heart, passion and dedication. I came here with the hope of helping this special club grow and together, we've created memories that will stay with me forever. "However, myself and the ownership of the club have been in agreement that now is the right time and the club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in they would allow me to move. It remains to be seen whether this development will affect Lookman's potential departure from Atalanta, as the Italian side could either stand firm or buckle under pressure to offload their unsettled star. Liverpool may well be keeping tabs on the situation should Chiesa become the target of La Dea's attention as they hunt for a replacement. After last season concluded, Chiesa himself confessed he was content to remain at Anfield. Nevertheless, he also acknowledged his interest in potentially returning to Serie A. Discussing transfers, he said: "That's something to think about during the summer. My family, my agent and I have a great relationship with Liverpool, and the goal is to be ready for the pre-season. We'll find the best solution for everyone. "I work every day with a Liverpool programme to be in top shape for the tests on July 8. While out of the squad (at Juventus), I was able to train in great condition, but I missed playing friendlies. I had to start from scratch at Liverpool and that held me back. "I hope (next season) it's my season, my dream is to participate in the World Cup. I played and won a European Championship, the World Cup would be the best."
