Telangana irrigation officials urge NDSA chairman to declare NSP ownership
HYDERABAD: Stating that they were facing a lot of problems in taking up repairs at the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) due to the 'attitude' of the Andhra Pradesh government, the irrigation officials of Telangana on Wednesday requested the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) chairman Anil Jain to declare who the owner of the project is. The NDSA chairman, who is on a three-day tour of the sibling state, held a meeting with Telangana Irrigation officials here on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Telangana officials said that the temporary maintenance of NSP was being carried out by them while the temporary maintenance of Srisailam Dam was being done by their Andhra Pradesh counterparts.
However, in November 2023, the government of AP deployed a huge police force on the right side of NSP, they added. Meanwhile, the NDSA chairman enquired about the steps being taken by Telangana to implement the National Dam Safety Act.
Dam break analysis
Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief G Anil Kumar informed Anil Jain that they were preparing the dam break analysis. The NDSA chairman suggested the officials prepare pre-monsoon and post-monsoon reports for every project every year. There should be a special operation and maintenance (O&M) manual for every project, he said.
Responding to this, Anil Kumar wanted the NDSA chairman to decide the owner of the NSP. He said that they were facing problems in carrying out the repairs to Nagarjunasagar and the project was in danger.

Official sources said the Cabinet will also take an important decision on the implementation of the recommendations made by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) on the Medigadda and other barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. It will also focus on the constitution of other official committees with irrigation experts to implement the recommendations made by the dam safety authority. The development of the proposed Future City, Regional Ring Road (RRR) and new system for permits to construct buildings in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits were also included in the agenda of the Cabinet meeting. Sources said the Chief Minister would present a report on the financial challenges and seek the suggestions of his Cabinet colleagues to tide over the crisis. He would also ask the ministers to strive hard to achieve the revenue targets in their respective departments. The Cabinet Sub-Committee on resource mobilization already prepared a report on how to increase revenues by introducing a slew of reforms without putting an extra tax burden on the people in the current financial year.

Telangana cabinet meeting tomorrow; KLIS, Yuva Vikasam on agenda
HYDERABAD: The state Cabinet, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is scheduled to meet on June 5. It is expected to take up the report submitted by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), implementation of the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme and issues concerning government employees, among other matters. Sources said the Cabinet is likely to approve the NDSA report and adopt its recommendations. The Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme, which aims to provide bank loans with incentives for youth self-employment, is also expected to come up for discussion. Even before the scheme's rollout, the government received several complaints about ineligible applicants being considered. Though over 13 lakh applications have been received, the distribution of sanction letters — which was set to begin on June 2 — has been put on hold. In a recent meeting with ministers, the chief minister said the letters would be issued only after Cabinet deliberations. Meanwhile, the Cabinet is also likely to discuss the report submitted by the three-officer committee formed to engage with government employees on their pending issues and demands. The report was recently submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Panel of experts proposed to find a way forward
HYDERABAD: The Irrigation department has proposed the formation of an expert committee, headed by former Central Water Commission (CWC) chairman and dam safety expert AB Pandya, to chart a way forward as recommended by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) in its final report concerning the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief G Anil Kumar on Tuesday sent the proposal to the Irrigation Secretary. The proposal recommended Pandya as the chairman of the committee, with the engineer-in-chief (General), engineer-in-chief (O&M), SDSO, chief engineer of CDO, CWPRS Director Prabhas Chandra, retired CE of DSRP (mechanical expert) K Satyanarayana, NIT-Warangal professor N Ramana Murthy, a geotechnical/geologist/geo-rock mechanics expert, and IIT-Hyderabad professor R Satish, a hydrology expert, as members, while the Chief Engineer (I), Ramagundam, will be the member-convener. The panel will also have two subject experts on board, on an invitation basis.
