Tourist shatters $50K Swarovski crystal Van Gogh chair at Verona museum in shocking photo mishap

An art installation at the Palazzo Maffei museum in Verona, Italy, was accidentally damaged by a tourist attempting to pose for a photo.
According to surveillance footage shared by the museum, the incident occurred when a male visitor sat on an art piece encrusted with thousands of Swarovski crystals — despite posted rules against touching the exhibit. The delicate sculpture, titled the "Van Gogh" chair by Italian artist Nicola Bolla, is inspired by the chair depicted in one of Vincent van Gogh's iconic paintings, The Bedroom.
Rather than mimicking a seated position like his female companion, the man fully sat on the piece, which immediately gave way. He stumbled while trying to catch himself, and the two hurried out of the room.
Palazzo Maffei publicly condemned the act in a social media post, calling the behavior 'superficial' and 'disrespectful,' and emphasized that the visitors waited for museum staff to leave before acting. 'They ignored every rule of respect for art and cultural heritage,' the museum said.
The museum initially feared the artwork might be beyond repair but confirmed days later that restoration efforts had succeeded. 'For days we didn't know if it would be possible to restore it. But we did it,' a staff member posted in Italian. The museum thanked law enforcement, their internal security team, and restoration experts for the recovery.
The cost of the repair has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the couple responsible will face any consequences.
Online commenters reacted strongly, with many condemning the tourists' disregard for museum etiquette.

Khaby Lame ICE arrest rumor spreads after activist post sparks online speculation

Rumors have gone viral claiming that TikTok megastar Khabane 'Khaby' Lame was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Las Vegas. The speculation originated from conservative activist Bo Loudon, who posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Lame had been detained for allegedly overstaying a visa and evading taxes. Loudon claimed he tipped off ICE himself and included what he said was a screenshot from the ICE detainee locator showing Lame at the Henderson Detention Center. 🔥🚨BREAKING: Legendary liberal TikTok influencer Khaby Lame just got arrested and is now in ICE custody after Bo London reported the influencer. Bo London: 'I discovered he was an illegal who overstayed an invalid VISA, evaded taxes, and I personally took action to have him… — Dom Lucre | Breaker of Narratives (@dom_lucre) June 6, 2025 However, as of June 7, there has been no official confirmation from ICE, the Department of Homeland Security, or Lame's representatives. Independent searches using the A-number provided by Loudon yielded no results, and Lame's name does not appear in the ICE detainee system. Khaby Lame, a Senegalese-born Italian national, rose to international fame during the COVID-19 pandemic for his silent TikTok videos that humorously critique overly complex life hacks. With over 162 million followers, he became the platform's most-followed creator by 2025. His fame has expanded beyond social media: he's been featured on Forbes' 30 Under 30, Fortune's 40 Under 40, walked the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, and was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador earlier this year. While online speculation continues, legal experts caution against drawing conclusions from unverified information. 'Even if someone appears in a detainee system, that doesn't confirm legal wrongdoing,' said immigration attorney Julia Price. She added that Lame's dual Italian-Senegalese citizenship could further complicate the legal picture. The episode underscores concerns about immigration misinformation and politically charged online narratives. Despite the lack of evidence, many fans are expressing shock and support across social media. 'I just want the truth,' said Zoe, a 17-year-old TikTok user from Chicago.

Two dead and 500 arrested in France during PSG win celebrations

PARIS: More than 500 people were arrested by police during the Champions League final celebrations in France, and two people were reported dead and 192 injured, the interior ministry said as further festivities were planned on Sunday. Wild celebrations erupted across the French capital and beyond on Saturday night after Paris St Germain crushed Italian opponents Inter Milan to win the Champions League for the first time. The interior ministry's provisional assessment on Sunday morning was that 559 people had been arrested, including 491 in Paris, which led to 320 people being placed in police custody, 254 of them in Paris. There was one fatal accident when a young man in his twenties died in a collision with a vehicle, police chief Laurent Nunez told reporters, while in the southwestern city of Dax, a 17-year-old died from stab wounds, French media reported. 'A judicial investigation will determine whether or not it (the fatality in Paris) can be linked to the celebrations. At this stage, it appears to be connected to the festivities,' Nunez said. On the boutique-lined Champs Elysees avenue, bus shelters were smashed and projectiles hurled at riot police, who fired tear gas and water cannon to push back surging crowds as thousands of supporters who descended on the area. The interior ministry on Sunday reported hundreds of fires, including more than 200 vehicles burned. Some 22 members of the security forces and seven firefighters were harmed.
