Three die as speeding SUV hits bike in Samastipur
Patna: Three people died after a speeding SUV collided hit their bike near a milk dairy under Rosera police station area of Samastipur district late Thursday night. They were going on a bike to attend a wedding event at Garhpura village in the district when the accident occurred, police said.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Anoj Kumar (30), Sher Bahadur alias Poolu (20), and Sujit Kumar alias Dilkhush (15), all residents of Fafaut village under Khodawandpur police station in Begusarai district. Anoj was pursuing paramedical studies in Delhi and was set to get married in November.
Rosera SDPO, Komal Kumari, said, "The incident occurred around 1am when the trio was heading to Garhpura village from Mirzapur to attend a wedding celebration.
The SUV, coming from the opposite direction, struck their motorcycle, resulting in their death on the spot. The SUV driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle."
Baldev Das, grandfather of the youngest victim, Sujit, said he was going to attend the wedding of Golu Kumar along with two other youths of the village when the tragedy struck.
"When we arrived with the wedding procession at Garhpura, the police informed us about the incident. After that, we went to the spot with family members. The bodies were handed over to the families after a postmortem at Samastipur sadar hospital. A search operation is underway to apprehend the absconding driver." the SDPO added.

Leopard kills 10 goats in village near Salem; forest dept officials set up cage to capture it

Also, they have set up camera traps to monitor the leopard's movements. The leopard killed 10 goats belonging to K Venkatesan, 60, of Kaligoundanur on June 10. He said it was not the first instance of a leopard attacking goats in Kaligoundanur village. Over the past 10 months, the leopard had killed several goats and a few cows, he said. On Friday, the villagers approached the officials of the Danishpet forest range to request them to capture the leopard. The forest officials visited the village and confirmed the leopard's presence by identifying its pugmarks. "We have placed a cage with a goat as a bait. We have installed cameras in 10 locations to track the animal," a forest official said. Forest officials advised villagers to stay indoors at night to avoid potential attack by the animal. "We have also suggested that they keep the areas around their houses well-lit. This may discourage the animal from approaching their houses or pens," the official added. Ahmedabad plane crash: Gujarat Minister Harsh Sanghavi holds meeting with police, forensic experts to assess progress of DNA testing
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday convened a meeting with top police officials and Forensic Science Laboratory officials to assess the progress of the DNA testing process being done on the bodies of those killed in the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Thirty-six state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials, along with National Forensic Science officials, are working hard to match the DNA of the deceased and family members to identify the dead bodies, he told reporters after the meeting. Around 260 people, including 241 on board the flight, lost their lives after the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed into a hostel building shortly after its takeoff. 'Top officials of the Forensic Science Laboratory of different parts of Gujarat have assembled and are working hard continuously round the clock. The National Forensic Science Laboratory officials had also extended their help,' Sanghavi said. He further added that once the FSL officials get the matching numbers, they are immediately sent to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to identify the bodies. 'The process of matching the numbers takes around 3 to 4 hours,' said the minister. He, however, did not reveal the number of passengers' bodies identified.

Govt forms high-level panel to probe Air India plane crash
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) The government has constituted a high-level committee to probe the London-bound Air India Boeing crash near Ahmedabad airport on June 12. The 11-member committee is being headed by Union Home Secretary, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said during a press conference on Saturday. 'To further investigate the incident and to look into all the theories and other information that are going around this incident, we felt it would be much better to have another committee also overlooking into this crash and also the safety,' Naidu said. The Minister said the committee will be headed by the Union Home Secretary and will consist of experts from various sectors and officials not less than Joint Secretary level. The panel will include secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation; additional secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs; representatives from the Gujarat government and State Disaster Response Authority; Ahmedabad police commissioner; DG (inspection and safety), Indian Air Force; DGs of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and DG Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA); Special Director from the Intelligence Bureau and Director, Directorate of Forensic Sciences Services. 'We have constituted the committee and have also circulated the order,' the Minister informed. Naidu emphasised that the committee has been given three months to complete its investigation, interact with stakeholders, and consult additional experts if required. 'We want this investigation to be holistic, transparent, and timely,' he said. Giving the details about the incident, Naidu said that after the news of the crash, he rushed to the site immediately, in coordination with the Government of Gujarat and the Centre. 'The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) was mobilised within hours,' he added. The AAIB team, comprising five members including the Director General, began the probe on day one. Two additional experts — a forensic specialist and a medical expert — joined the investigation yesterday. A major development came with the recovery of the aircraft's Black Box around 5 pm yesterday. 'This is expected to offer crucial insights into what transpired moments before the crash,' Naidu said, adding that the Ministry is keenly awaiting the outcome of the AAIB's technical investigation. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Police on Saturday have confirmed 270 deaths due to the crash. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) yesterday issued a directive mandating urgent additional maintenance checks for Air India's B787-8/9 fleet equipped with Genx engines. In an order issued here, the aviation regulator stated that, as a preventive measure, the DGCA has directed Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines, in coordination with the concerned regional DGCA offices. The UK-bound Air India flight with 242 people on board crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon.
