Now Patrick, who shares Milo, seven, and James, five, with his ex, is said to be spending most of his time at the stylish home in his native Northern Ireland.
The property overlooks the stunning Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains, and comes complete with a games room, cinema, gym and spa.
Patrick and Cat used to stay at the house with their sons during visits to the picturesque village.
An insider told the Daily Mail: 'He's been lying low in the house for the past few weeks because he's obviously got a lot to think about.
'He's not been coming out as much as he usually does when he's here and it's been very hard for him but the whole family and his friends have been supporting him.'
But locals have spotted Patrick during outings with the boys, with one telling the publication they were seen in a pub not far from their home.
They said: 'He was in here with the two boys and to be honest, seemed a lot quieter than he usually is.
'Normally, he's not at the house very much because he spends most of his time away for work, but we all know that he's been back in Dundrum for quite a while now.'
It comes after sources revealed that, after Cat was a no-show at the funeral of Patrick's mother in March, his family 'knew the marriage was over'.
A source said: 'Whatever rockiness was going on in the marriage, something as momentous as his mother's funeral, you would make up even temporarily and just put your 'best face' on as we say in Northern Ireland.
'Cat obviously knew how close Patrick was to Mary and she should have come to be by his side, a hand on his shoulder as he buried his mother.
'The fact that she stayed in London and presented This Morning on the day, it's not been forgotten.'

Noticeably absent from the ceremony were Brooklyn's parents, David and Victoria Beckham, and his three younger siblings. Their absence comes amid persistent rumours of a strained relationship between Brooklyn and his family, despite denials from Nicola and Victoria. Nicola wore a repurposed version of her mother's 1985 wedding dress for the vow renewal.

The This Morning host was seen out with a friend at a restaurant in Sitges on August 2, just days after Cat and Patrick announced their separation after 12 years of marriage. In a joint statement, the couple said: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. Cat commented on the post: 'I love you'. Christine McGuinness opens up about 'mistakes' and 'trust being broken' during emotional chat about split from ex-husband Paddy
Christine McGuinness became emotional as she opened up about ex-husband Paddy's 'mistakes' and claims 'the trust was broken'. The model, 37, who was married to TV presenter Paddy for 11 years before they split for good in 2022, is part of this year's Celebs Go Dating line-up. And while speaking to the E4 show's dating experts, Christine opened up about her marriage to TV personality Paddy. She explained: 'When I met my ex-husband, he wasn't as known as what he is now. I was 19 when I met him. I went to an event where I was modelling. 'My ex-husband was there, someone introduced us. We had a laugh and kept in touch.' When asked by the experts if she fancied Paddy, Christine replied: 'Yeah, I did. He had a cheeky charm, he made me laugh.' She also described meeting Paddy as 'perfect timing' and said it was 'an easy relationship.' The pair, who wed in 2011, have three children - twins Leo and Penelope, as well as Felicity. The experts then asked Christine about the breakup, to which she replied: 'Anyone can make mistakes, but I think the trust was broken.' Christine showed clear signs she wanted to leave the programme during the first episode of Celebs Go Dating on Monday night. The TV personality who announced she had quit the show in May, appeared visibly uncomfortable during the mixer when the celebs were tasked to pick someone to take to Ibiza in the hope they would get closer. But all seemed too much for Christine as she insisted on 'taking a minute' outside with her fellow co-star Kerry Katona . She panicked: 'I need a minute, I can go for a minute can't I? I don't want to just take someone away. 'How can I go abroad with someone I've just met? This is just not normal.' When it was announced she would appear on the show, it was revealed that Christine would be up for dating both men and women on the show. Christine revealed it felt 'too soon' for her to date so publicly following her divorce from ex-husband Paddy McGuinness . She had already flown to Ibiza to begin filming the series with the rest of the cast but told fans she was 'returning home to her family' after having a change of heart. Revealing the news on Instagram, she said: 'I joined Celebs Go Dating with great intentions but have realised that dating on a public platform and the attention is brings is just too soon for me.' Christine also said that she may appear in the future, adding: 'They've said the door is always open for me which I'm so grateful but for now I'm returning home to my family.' Talking on Celebs Go Dating, Christine said: 'I feel like I'm a couple of steps away from being my new self and not 'Paddy's wife'. I'm coming out of the transition part. 'I am single and I absolutely do love women. I'd love to explore that more and I definitely see that's where I'm more comfortable.' She added: 'When I was a teenager, I dated men and women before I was married and now I'm really, really just enjoying spending time with women. 'For the last three years, I've only ever dated women. I was never heterosexual, I've never labelled myself anything other than Christine, to be honest.' Christine was married to TV presenter Paddy for 11 years before they split for good in 2022. After they stayed living together for the sake of their three children, who have all been diagnosed with autism, the exes finalised their divorce out of court last summer. Christine revealed how 'difficult' the break-up had been for her after the pair's marital home, a Cheshire mansion worth £6.5million, was put on the market. She said: 'I've never spoken about the reasons for our divorce, and I don't know if I ever will. 'It was a difficult time. It wasn't something that, you know, I just decided to do overnight, or that we chose to do. 'We tried, and, yeah, there just, unfortunately, there was no repairing it, you know?' Discussing her appearance on the show before deciding to quit, the TV personality has admitted that she hasn't 'dated much before' so this will be a new experience for her. She said: 'I'm really excited to be joining the agency, I'm going to have a summer of fun! Who knows what might happen? I've not really dated much before, so I feel like I'm doing a crash course! 'I'm looking forward to getting to know the other celebs and I'm especially looking forward to the coaching side of things with the agents. I think that's going to be good for me.'
