New Delhi: FMCG major Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) on Thursday reported a 5.97 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs2,768 crore for the June quarter of FY26, helped by gains from a re-estimation of taxes paid in the previous year.
The company had logged a net profit of Rs2,612 crore in the April-June quarter a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from HUL, the maker of popular brands as Dove, Lifebuoy, Lux, Lakmé, and Sunsilk. Revenue from the sale of products of the leading FMCG firm was up 5.15 per cent at Rs16,296 crore in the June quarter, led by volume growth. This was at Rs15,497 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.
'HUL reported a consolidated underlying Sales Growth (USG) of 5 per cent and an Underlying Volume Growth (UVG) of 4 per cent,' the company said in its earnings statement. In the June quarter, HUL's profit before tax was lower by 6.4 per cent to Rs3,303 on a year-on-year basis. It was at Rs3,529 crore in the corresponding June quarter of FY25. While its Profit after Tax (PAT) was up nearly 6 per cent. Commenting on the results, HUL CEO and Managing Director Rohit Jawa said FMCG demand has continued to remain stable, with a gradual uptick in recency.
'Encouraged by favourable macro-economic indicators, we strategically stepped up our investments to effectively advance our portfolio transformation agenda in this quarter. As a result, we delivered competitive, broad-based growth with an Underlying Sales Growth of 5 per cent, driven by an Underlying Volume Growth of 4 per cent, at a consolidated level,' he said. Over the outlook, Jawa said he expects this 'gradual recovery to be sustained'. The company's market valuation surged by Rs19,936.28 crore to Rs5,92,531.67 crore. The stock emerged as the biggest gainer among the Sensex and Nifty firms.
According to HUL, the difference 'is on account of a one-off impact of re-estimation of tax provisions with respect to the potential disallowance of certain expenses pertaining to prior years.'
During the quarter, HUL's EBITDA margin stood at 22.8 per cent, down 130 basis points year-on-year, as the FMCG major continued to step up investments in its business.

Indian markets dip marginally this week amid tariff concerns

Mumbai: The Indian benchmark index Sensex plunged over 600 points this week, while the Nifty fell to a two-month low, closing below the 24,600 mark amid widespread selling across sectors. Market sentiment was weighed down by concerns over the newly imposed 25 per cent US tariff on Indian exports, persistent FII selling, and weakness in global markets, analysts said on Saturday. "The market oscillated between cautious optimism and defensive positioning, ultimately ending lower due to a persistent FII outflow. With global headwinds, investors showed a preference for domestically driven stories with non-discretionary appeal, as broader sentiment turned selective. FMCG stocks stood out, benefiting from attractive valuations and insulation from external shocks," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited. FMCG stocks rallied sharply after companies like HUL, Dabur India, and Emami reported strong Q1 results, pushing the Nifty FMCG Index up nearly 1 per cent. Key sectors such as auto, metal, IT, and pharma declined 2–3 per cent amid concerns over the U.S. trade action. Analysts said that the US tariffs will not have a direct bearing on Indian markets, given that major exports are of traditional items such as gems & jewellery, leather and textiles that do not have large representation in the listed space. They feel the bulk of the tariff concerns may already be priced in, and a steep fall is highly unlikely. The Nifty index formed a bearish candle on the daily and weekly timeframes and has been making lower lows for the past four weeks. If it remains below 24600 zones, weakness could be seen towards 24,442 and 24,250 zones, with hurdles shifting lower to 24800 and 24950 zones, according to analysts at Motilal Oswal. During the week shares of tech major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) slipped 5 per cent, following the company's announcement to lay off around 12,200 employees in FY26. Asian, European, and US index futures dropped around 1 per cent after President Trump signed an executive order introducing 'reciprocal' tariffs on multiple countries, with rates ranging from 10 per cent to 41 per cent, set to take effect in seven days. The move has sparked fears of rising inflation and slowing global growth. Amid such widespread concerns of global slowdown, the International Monetary Fund's July update to its World Economic Outlook raised the global growth forecast for 2025 to 3 percent, which is a 0.2 percentage point increase from its April projection.

NMC to spend Rs2,100cr on resurfacing 61 major roads

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to undertake a Rs2,100 crore initiative to resurface as many as 61 major roads throughout the city. This large-scale infrastructure project is for the upcoming Kumbh Mela , which the city is set to host between 2026 and 2028. The road development will happen in three phases. The first phase will cover 23 major roads, including sections of Nashik's existing inner, middle, and outer ring roads. They are vital as they connect to national and state highways, particularly in the Panchavati, Nashik Road, and Nashik East divisions. The civic body also plans to widen some of these roads where possible. The second phase will see development of 29 roads, including the significant Shahi Marg. And the third phase will involve re-laying of nine roads. This extensive upgrade of the road network aims to significantly improve connectivity and infrastructure, preparing the city for the large number of devotees expected for the Kumbh Mela. Nashik is one of four cities that hosts Kumbh Mela every 12 years. The last Mela was held in 2015. "We will require around Rs373 crore for developing the road network by March 2026. The remaining amount will be required in phases during the next financial year," the official said. "The civic administration has prepared a Rs15,000-crore plan for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela and submitted it to state govt for approval. Of the total amount, the public works department has proposed Rs4,000 crore for road works, construction of nine bridges, and other works," the official added. During the recent meetings, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis instructed the NMC and other authorities concerned to undertake those works which will need around two years for completion. Accordingly, the NMC completed the tender process and finalised a private agency for the construction of sewage treatment plants, sewage pumping stations and diversion of sewage from the 22 nullahs towards nearby STPs. The total cost of these sewage management works is around Rs1,475 crore. The civic body also started the tender process for the construction of the five bridges and strengthening of the Gadge Maharaj bridge. Apart from the STPs and bridges, the NMC has also prioritised road works.
