India to submit bid to host 2030 Commonwealth Games amid Olympic hopes
Sumariwalla told India Today that India also wants to host the 2029 and 2031 World Athletics Championships — the crown jewel of the track and field world — in Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad respectively.Earlier in March this year, the IOA had submitted a letter expressing their interest in hosting the 2030 edition of the Commonwealth Games. India last hosted a major sporting event back in 2010, in Delhi. Sources told India Today that the sports ministry has finalised Ahmedabad as the venue for the event, which is also expected to be the central city if and when the Summer Olympics happen in India.India also wanted to host all those disciplines which were axed from the 2026 Commonwealth Games to ensure that its medal tally is not affected when the event is held in Glasgow. However, that proposal was rejected by CGF. The Commonwealth Games have been struggling to find hosts in recent times and the fate of the upcoming edition was also left in jeopardy after the hosts Victoria in Australia backed out due to escalating costs.Glasgow emerged as the saviour of the sporting event but cut down on the number of sports to ten to be held across four venues. Meanwhile, the last two major sporting events in India were both held in the national capital Delhi namely the Asian Games in 1982 and the Commonwealth Games in 2010.- EndsMust Watch
