Former PL referee banned for 8-weeks over Klopp comment
London
Former Premier League referee David Coote has been given an eight-week suspension and told to attend an education programme over abusive words he used about ex-Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp.
Coote was charged by the Football Association in June after the comments about Klopp came to light in a video circulated on social media last November.
The FA said he had subsequently admitted the charge.
Coote's misconduct was defined as an aggravated breach under the FA's rules because there was a reference to Klopp's nationality.
Coote was sacked by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) last December, a month after the video filmed in July 2020 came to light.
Coote was banned by European football's governing body UEFA in February until June 30, 2026 after a different video emerged of him snorting a white powder through a bank note while in Germany for last summer's Euros.

PSG sign Bournemouth defender Zabarnyi
PA Media/DPA London Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of defender Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth. The Ukraine international has agreed a five-year contract with the European champions in a deal reportedly worth an initial £54.5 million ($73.39 million), plus £2.6 million in performance-related add-ons. Zabarnyi, 22, joined the Cherries in January 2023 from Dynamo Kyiv and went on to make 86 appearances for the Premier League side in all competitions. 'I'm very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain, the best club in the world, with the best project,' he told the Ligue 1 club's website. 'I am here to give everything I have on the pitch and I'm looking forward to making my debut and meeting the fans.' PSG welcomed the player and said on 'X' platform: 'Paris Saint-Germain are delighted to welcome Illia Zabarnyi to the Club. The 22-year-old central defender, who will wear the number six shirt, is the Club's first-ever Ukrainian player.' Zabarnyi is the third first-choice defender to leave Bournemouth this summer following the departure of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid for £50 million and Milos Kerkez's move to Liverpool in a £40 million deal. During his time on the south coast, he played an instrumental role in back-to-back record-breaking finishes by helping Andoni Iraola's team twice surpass the club's highest points total in the Premier League. The Kiev-born centre-back, who has 49 international caps, was voted the Cherries' supporters' player of the season for the 2023-24 campaign. PSG won the Champions League for the first time in May after beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich. Luis Enrique's French champions, who have also added goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier to their squad during the current transfer window, face Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday before beginning their domestic title defence on Sunday away to Nantes. PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi said: 'Illia is a talented international player and a great professional. 'He will make a major contribution to everything that we are building long-term at Paris Saint-Germain.'

Liverpool would not cruise to title even with Isak: Carragher
PA Media/dpa London Jamie Carragher has warned Liverpool that signing Alexander Isak would not guarantee them the Premier League title. The Reds won the league by 10 points last season and have since splurged almost £300 million ($404.72 million) on new signings. They have also had a £110 million offer for Isak turned down by Newcastle, but the Sweden striker's future is still up in the air. Asked whether he thought Liverpool were likely to end up successful in their pursuit of Isak, Sky Sports pundit and former Reds defender Carragher said: 'Yeah, I think so, but I don't get this narrative of Liverpool are going to run away with it.' Carragher pointed to Liverpool's Community Shield defeat by Crystal Palace as evidence that the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike will take time to click. 'If you look at history, it could tell you that it's not just about having the best players, it's about having the best team, and sort of making that balance right, and at the weekend it didn't quite look right,' he said. 'I think we will have a title race, and I think there's a lot of talk. I think the great thing about football is what we actually saw on Sunday with Liverpool. It didn't look right. 'It tells me it's not just about spending lots of money and buying the best players, you've still got to manage that team and make it work and have a nice balance to it.' However, former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville believes landing Isak would make Liverpool big favourites to retain the title. 'Liverpool won it really comfortably last year and have had a great transfer window,' he said at the launch of Sky Sports' Premier League coverage. 'If they get Isak, which it looks like he's agitating for a move, then it will make them massive favourites. But Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, I think will push them closer than last year.'
