Istana denies link between Governor's family, student's death
Published on: Thu, Jul 31, 2025 Text Size: Istana Seri Kinabalu has firmly denied claims circulating on social media linking the Sabah Governor's family to the recent death of a Form One student at SM Tun Datu Mustapha. Liaison Secretary to the Head of State, Datuk Abdulah Hussin, said on Thursday that the allegation is baseless, irresponsible, and defamatory to the Head of State's family. He urged the public not to spread unverified and slanderous information that could harm reputations. The police investigation paper has been forwarded by Sabah Police Headquarters to Bukit Aman for further review before being submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers. Police identify suspect in upside-down flag incident in PD school
PORT DICKSON: Police have identified a 30-year-old man believed to be involved in the incident where the Jalur Gemilang was displayed upside down at a school here on Friday. District police chief Superintendent Maslan Udin said the man would be called in to assist with the investigation, adding that the flag was taken down on the same day. "The investigation is ongoing and will be referred to the public prosecutor for further action," he said in a statement today. He said a report on the matter was lodged by a 32-year-old man yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Maslan advised the public not to circulate the issue further as it could disrupt harmony and public order.

Speaking at the state-level Trade Union Day at ITCC, Hajiji stressed the importance of unions in areas beyond wages, including policy-making, education, and technology adoption. He said the government remains committed to supporting the trade union movement and creating a fair, sustainable employment ecosystem that benefits all Sabahans. Hajiji described the assembly as a landmark event signalling a new chapter for structured and inclusive unionism under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan. He noted that Sabah recorded over 1.7 million in labour force last year, contributing to a GDP of RM84.3 billion through sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and services. There are currently 92 registered trade unions in the state with over 60,000 members across the government, private, and statutory sectors, he added.
