CBS cancels 'Poppa's House' after one season despite full-season order
CBS has officially canceled the comedy series Poppa's House after just one season.
Starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., the multi-camera sitcom will not return for a second season, making it the only freshman scripted series on CBS to be canceled for the 2025–2026 lineup.
Despite earning a full-season order in November 2024, including five additional episodes, Poppa's House fell short in ratings compared to other CBS comedy hits like Ghosts, The Neighborhood, and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage—all of which were renewed.
The cancellation comes after CBS weighed its remaining comedy slots against pilots including DMV, Zarna, and a planted spinoff of The Neighborhood. Ultimately, DMV secured the series order, ending the run for Poppa's House despite its star power and solid performance.
Produced by CBS Studios, the series featured Damon Wayans as 'Poppa,' a veteran radio host navigating changing times at work with a new female co-host, while also struggling with parenting his adult son, played by Damon Wayans Jr. The cast also included Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. The show blended family comedy with workplace humor and generational clashes.
While CBS had asked the production to reduce costs to improve renewal odds, the budget—driven by its A-list talent—likely played a role in the final decision.
With the cancellation, Poppa's House joins other CBS dramas like FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, and S.W.A.T., all of which are not returning. The only CBS scripted series still awaiting a renewal decision is The Equalizer, which remains on the bubble for now.
