Stalker molests eye surgeon, attacks hospital guards
Rajkot: A man obsessed with a 47-year-old eye surgeon turned up at the hospital she works at in Junagadh, assaulted two security guards, pelted the hospital with stones while demanding that the surgeon come out, and threatened to kill her while claiming to be her lover.
He fled before police arrived.
The surgeon filed a complaint at C Division police station in Junagadh against the man, Vijay alias Vakar Gondhiya, for molestation, sexual harassment, stalking and other offences.
The surgeon stated in her complaint that she was in the operation theatre on Monday when she was told that Gondhiya had come outside the hospital. He assaulted a security guard and threatened to kill him, saying he would set the complainant on fire.
He claimed that the complainant was his lover and insisted that she be called outside. He then attacked another guard and then left, but not before threatening to kill the complaint when she was driving her car.
Later, when the complainant was in her chamber, the hospital receptionist told her that Gondhiya had come back and was throwing stones at the hospital. Police were called but Gondhiya fled before they arrived.

The surgeon stated in her complaint that the accused had stalked her earlier, with the intent of committing rape, leading her husband to file a complaint. Gondhiya had been incarcerated for that but began stalking her again on being released.
Recently, when she got out of her car outside her house, he allegedly went up to her and molested her. When she went home, he threw stones at her house. She said he also threw sindoor and love letters on her property and had been continually harassing her. Police booked Gondhiya under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 74, 75(1) and 78, among others.

Noida: A Delhi jeweller, allegedly a part of a cyber fraud gang that cheated a woman of Rs 50 lakh by posing as officials from law enforcement and govt agencies, was arrested Tuesday. The accused, Sumit, was arrested from his home in Civil Lines on Tuesday. He was allegedly a part of a well-oiled network that intimidated people by impersonating officials from the telecom department, police and CBI. On May 26, a Noida resident lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime police station, stating she was contacted by people who claimed she was under investigation for money laundering. Using spoofed calls, fake identity badges, and fabricated documents, including an arrest warrant, the fraudsters coerced her into transferring Rs 50 lakh for "verification" purposes. She was told the money would be returned after the probe, but the fraudsters broke all contact after receiving the funds. ACP (Cyber) Vivek Ranjan Rai said the name of Sumit emerged during the investigation. A previous arrest in the case helped police trace him to Delhi. Eight tourist police cells were set up in 2015 in various locations — three in Bhubaneswar (at Lingaraj, Dhauli and Nandankanan police stations), three in Puri (at Sea Beach, Konark and Brahmagiri police stations), and one each at Gopalpur and Chandipur police stations. The cells are facing challenges in effective functioning due to inadequate infrastructure and staff shortage, operating with existing police station personnel. "While each cell has a sanctioned strength of at least a sub-inspector, an assistant SI and six constables, they are running with half the number. Even though they are supposed to deal with tourist related matters, these personnel are being engaged in routine policing job," said a police officer, requesting anonymity. We will again pursue the matter." Sources in the home department said the tourist police cells will be strengthened soon. "Molestation of a Swedish woman near Lingaraj Temple in 2024 was the lone case against a foreigner reported in the state in the last four years. The case ended in conviction of the accused within three weeks. The number of offences involving theft and snatching of articles of domestic tourists is minimal," the police officer said. The state received about 1.09 crore domestic and 53,392 foreign tourists in 2024, with Puri, Konark and Chilika lake the key attractions.
