Bung Mokhtar: Sabah BN unperturbed by GRS-PH alliance for state election
Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the party is instead focusing on strengthening its grassroots machinery and fielding candidates in constituencies where it has the best chance of winning.
"Umno Sabah is not too concerned with whom GRS wants to work. As of now, BN is only cooperating with PH.
"Our priority is to strengthen our machinery at the grassroots level, and we will field our candidates in constituencies where we are confident of winning," he told the New Straits Times.
Bung Mokhtar added that BN was prepared for any electoral battle.
The former state deputy chief minister said it does not matter whom the coalition would face or go up against.
"What matters is that we are ready to defend our existing seats, and on top of that, we aim to win back those we previously lost," he said.
His statement comes amid confirmation from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor that GRS will maintain its alliance with PH for the 17th Sabah state election, despite calls for the Sabah-based coalition to contest solo.
Hajiji said both coalitions have held seat negotiation talks, including discussions with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman.
GRS has 38 state seats, Parti Warisan 14, Umno 11 and PH 7. Umno's seats include Bengkoka, Usukan, Karambunai, Tanjung Keramat, Pantai Manis, Sungai Manila, Sungai Sibuga, Lamag, Sukau, Segama and Tanjung Batu.

'Petrol price reduction shows govt has kept its promise'
KOTA BARU: The reduction in petrol price will silence critics who previously accused the PH-led government of breaking its long-standing promise to lower the prices of fuel. Kelantan Pakatan Harapan women's chief Dr Hafidzah Mustakim said the announcement of a package to relieve the rising cost of living by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reflected a serious and people-centric approach in delivering direct subsidies to those in need. "The prime minister has fulfilled his word. This shows the government listens and takes real action, not empty promises," she added. She also said the decision to double the allocation for Rahmah Sales from RM300 million to RM600 million was a clear demonstration of the Madani government's commitment to easing the people's burden, especially when essential items were becoming expensive. "This increase means more frequent Rahmah Sales, which are often referred to locally as 'Kedai Cari Rakyat'. Previously, each state constituency held four sales monthly. "With this boost, the programme can be carried out even more regularly, especially in rural areas where they are most needed," she said. Dr Hafidzah, who is Kota Lama assemblyman, described today's announcement as a milestone in government aid delivery, showcasing a deep concern for public well-being. "The RM100 one-off assistance for all Malaysians aged 18 and above also proves this government is fair and inclusive. No one is left behind," she said when met at her office.

Auditor-General's report debate in parliament boosts governance reforms
KUALA LUMPUR: The debate on the 2025 Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) Series 2 in the Dewan Rakyat has been hailed as a crucial move to enhance governance reforms and integrity in public institutions. Members of Parliament (MPs) commended the government for tabling the report, allowing elected representatives to scrutinise findings and propose improvements. Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) stated that the debate reflects the government's commitment to reform under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'Congratulations to the National Audit Department for a detailed report and allowing parliamentary debate. This reform measure should be repeated,' he said during the session. Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah) added that the debate strengthens checks and balances, aligning with institutional reforms promised by the government. MPs also provided suggestions on issues raised in the report, covering five programmes, activities, and projects across seven ministries, with an audited cost of RM48.873 billion. Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng) proposed transforming cooking oil subsidies into targeted e-vouchers via the Central Database Hub (PADU) to address weaknesses in the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme (COSS). 'This will reduce administrative burdens, increase transparency, and prevent leakages,' he said. Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) urged stricter enforcement against foreigners purchasing subsidised cooking oil, suggesting MyKad or MyDigital ID verification. 'Embezzlement betrays the people and must be stopped,' he said. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) called for a disciplinary board for GLCs to review acquisitions exceeding RM100 million, following irregularities in FELCRA Berhad's palm oil plantation purchase. 'The Companies Commission and MACC should investigate potential malpractice,' he said. Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera) highlighted a RM107.54 million defence procurement breach, stating it undermines financial regulations and public trust. 'Failing to enforce contracts properly results in financial losses and weakens preparedness,' she said. – Bernama

Sabahans ‘numb' over delays in infrastructure projects, says Warisan MP
Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis criticised contractors and lobbyists for contributing to the chronic delays in completing infrastructure projects in Sabah. KUALA LUMPUR : Sabahans have become desensitised to infrastructure delays after years of seeing numerous projects stalled or left incomplete, a Warisan MP said today. Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) criticised contractors and lobbyists for contributing to the chronic delays, stating that many aggressively lobbied for projects they were not capable of executing. 'My message to the contractors and lobbyists is, if you want to submit tenders, be honest about your capacity. 'If you think you can't handle the project, don't lobby for it. Do not create more problems for others,' she said when debating the 2025 Auditor-General's Report Series 2 in the Dewan Rakyat. Last month, Sabah works minister Shahelmey Yahya said physical progress on Package 20 of the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah remained low at just 1.6% despite letters of acceptance having been issued eight months ago. In a Bernama report, Shahelmy, who is also the state's deputy chief minister III, attributed the delay to ongoing land and property assessment processes. Isnaraissah also raised concerns over the multiple layers of subcontracting in federal infrastructure projects, saying the system left no actual 'doers' on the ground in Sabah. 'The ones awarded the project hire subcontractors, who in turn hire other subcontractors. In the end, no one takes responsibility and the work doesn't get done,' she said. She questioned the works ministry's decision to use the selected pre-qualified open tender procurement system for Phase 1B of the Pan Borneo Highway project, an issue which was also flagged in the Auditor-General's Report Series 2. The report, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, said open tenders were more suitable to ensure accountability and transparency in the procurement process.
