Eurovision 2025's final brings in two million more viewers than FA Cup Final
The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 brought in two million more viewers than the FA Cup Final, the BBC revealed. On 17 May, millions of fans gathered with their friends with snacks and drinks to watch a night of camp performances, tear-jerking ballads, dance tunes and quirky dances.
Unfortunately, the UK's entrant, Remember Monday, was dealt a huge blow and left the competition with only 88 points, while Austria's JJ, real name Johannes Pietsch, won the competition with their incredible song, Wasted Love. The event received a peak of 7.9 million viewers, with an average of 6.7 million viewers.
However, it was a decline on the viewing figures from last year's competition in Malmo, Sweden, which saw 7.9 million tune in with a peak of 8.5 million.
Many fans chose to boycott the last two events due to Israel's controversial participation in the show amid the country's ongoing bombardment of Palestine, which is seeing Palestinians starving to death due to a blockade of aid.
Meanwhile, UK's Remember Monday recently spoke out about their doomed performance with a statement on Sunday morning.
They said in a statement to the Mirror: "WOW - what a ride! Three best mates walked onto the world 's biggest music stage and came out with a Top 10 Jury score, massive streaming numbers, and memories that will last a lifetime.
"Performing at Eurovision was one of the most surreal and emotional moments of our lives. The love we've felt from fans, our incredible team, and everyone who streamed, voted, and believed in us has been overwhelming.
"This is just the beginning for Remember Monday. We've got new music coming your way, a UK & Ireland headline tour this year, a summer packed with festivals, and we'll be hitting the stage at Wembley Stadium for the Summertime Ball… no big deal!
"We're so grateful for the platform, the media support, and every single new fan who's joined us on this wild journey. Eurovision? Completed it. Let's go! Charlotte, Holly and Lauren x."
Speaking on the night of their performance, commentator Graham Norton said: 'We couldn't have asked for more."
Over on Twitter, viewers were picking up on the West End vibes the girls gave off. 'Say all you want about this song being just a random West End number, you cannot deny that Remember Monday's chemistry together on stage is immaculate,' one wrote.
'They really look like they're having the time of their lives on the #Eurovision stage!'
Other notable performances included Maltese singer Miriana Conte with Serving, which was renamed from Kant due to its resemblance to a swearword, and Switzerland's Zoe Me with the powerful Voyage.

Who is George Clarke? Latest Strictly Come Dancing star's unexpected rise to fame
Some BBC viewers will be introduced to TikTok star George Clarke, who hosts the Useless Hotline with Max Balegde, for the first time when he competes on Strictly Come Dancing 2025 George Clarke will be competing on the new series of Strictly Come Dancing after being unveiled as part of the line-up this week. He's the sixth celebrity to be named as a contestant for this year's edition of the BBC show. The content creator, 25, also known as George Clarkey, said in a statement: "Never thought I'd say this … but I'm doing Strictly! George is best known for his work on social media and as the host of the Useless Hotline podcast, which has more than a 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. On his own, he has more than 2 million followers on his TikTok page alone. George's TikTok account dates back six years but he has spoken about how one particular series on his page in 2021 led to the biggest increase in followers. It showed him trying to figure out the cause of a "beeping noise" in his garage, with the first of those videos now having 2.4 million views. Speaking about the impact of it, he said in an interview for AwayDays that was released on YouTube earlier this year: "People for some reason just lapped it up." George said that he got 250,000 followers in a week from the first video. He shared that his parents had been prepared to support him, even before that success, whilst he pursued a career as a content creator after leaving university. He said: "At that point of my life, I don't really know what I was doing." George, who said that he hadn't shared his TikTok page with family initially, recalled his dad finding his account years ago. He said that they then had a conversation about it, which included him receiving the blessing of his parents over it. In the interview uploaded earlier this year, George said he was told that his parents had noticed he was "doing quite well" on TikTok and recalled his dad saying to him: "We'll happily support you if you keeps going up. Obviously if it starts to tail off you need to finish yourself a job." George said that he filmed the beep series some time after that. His content on the platform now ranges from comedy skits to promotional posts for brands. He also collaborates with fellow content creators like Arthur Hill, Isaac Smith, better known as ItalianBach, and ArthurTV's Arthur Frederick. Since his rise to fame on social media, George has ventured in the podcast industry. He's known for fronting the Useless Hotline with fellow TikTok star Max Balegde, with the pair co-hosting the podcast since it launched in 2022. George and Max address dilemmas, talk about their lives and interview celebrities on the podcast. Guests in episodes released in recent months having included comedian Katherine Ryan and Celebrity Big Brother 's JoJo Siwa. Earlier this year, George, who has 600,000 subscribers on his own YouTube channel, appeared on the second series of the competition Inside, launched by the Sidemen. Game of Thrones star's ‘underrated' period drama now streaming on Amazon Prime
The BBC drama Gunpowder has just arrived on Amazon Prime Video, to give viewers something to fill in their historical gaps on the Gunpowder Plot. Starring Game of Thrones breakout Kit Harington, the gory drama from Ronan Bennett first aired in 2017 to a fairly positive reception – the show has a rating of 72% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Harington plays Robert Catesby, the mastermind behind the plot to blow up the House of Lords in 1605 and, it turns out, who Harington is a direct descendent of on his mother's side of the family. The show unspools this infamous plot to kill the king (James I, played by Derek Riddell), which went epicly wrong. The show is set in the context of Catholicism being illegal across the country, with very historically-accurate brutality inflicted on the population over comparatively minor religious differences. The three-part series was primetime viewing on the BBC – even as many noted the episodes were crammed with gruesome and graphic scenes that reflected the violence of the time period. Think intestines pouring out from people like sausage-links. The opening episode alone features scenes of a priest being hung, drawn and quartered and a woman stripped naked before being crushed to death under a slab which has weights slowly added one at a time. So not one for the queasy viewers. He said: 'We can't avoid the executions that the people around these men suffered. And I think it's wrong when showing a torture scene or execution, I think it's wrong to shy too far away from the reality of it. 'You need to feel the reasons, to know why they go and do the things they do.' It's by no means a cheery watch. And while that might have put some off at the time, there are also those who congratulated the show on its authenticity. In 1605, a group of British Catholics, including Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby (Harington's character), hatched a plan to blow up Parliament. The plan was to wipe out the anti-Catholic establishment and King James I, a protestant who introduced strict laws that persecuted Catholics. These laws included the outlaw of Catholic priests. Spoiler alert, the plot failed. Guards found the conspirators hiding in the cellars, moments before they had planned to blow the place. Brits now celebrate Bonfire Night on the November 5 anniversairy, with a Guy Fawkes effigy traditionally burned on a bonfire alongside fireworks. Taking to Google reviews, Beverley Raw wrote: 'I found this fantastically exciting swashbuckling stuff. 'If you like exciting, adult historical realistic drama this is for you. Brilliant casting and acting.' 'Amazing show, so underrated and has a great script, cinematography, and acting. Well done indeed,' wrote Jacob Bennette.
