Inside Soap Awards 2025 nominations are REVEALED with iconic category set to make surprise return after six years

Daily Mail08-07-2025
The nominations for the 2025 Inside Soap Awards have been revealed, with one category set to make a surprise return after six years away.
After a string of iconic characters have bid farewell in recent months, bosses have brought back the Best Exit award.
A whole host of gripping storylines and showstopping moments, along with the iconic characters at the forefront of them, lead this year's nominations.
These include Corrie's Debbie being diagnosed with dementia, Phil's mental health struggles in EastEnders, Robert crashing Aaron and John's wedding in Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks ' hard-hitting teen sexual exploitation plot.
It comes at a time where many of TV's biggest soaps are facing huge shake-ups, with ITV favourites Coronation Street and Emmerdale set to have their weekly episode counts slashed in 2026.
Once again, a string of big names will battle it out for Best Actor, including Corrie's Jack P Shepherd, Emmerdale's Danny Miller and EastEnders' Steve McFadden.
Meanwhile nominees for Best Actress include Corrie's Sue Devanet, EastEnders' Lacey Turner, and Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe.
Nominations for Best Storyline once again include Debbie's battle with dementia on Corrie, Phil's mental health struggles in EastEnders, Joe Tate's fight for survival on Emmerdale, and Cleo's shocking abuse ordeal in Hollyoaks.
'The Inside Soap Awards remain the only trophies of their kind to be voted for entirely by the real experts – the soap viewing public,' said Inside Soap magazine editor Sarah Ellis. '
'Over 90,000 soap fans vote each and every year; and in addition to our list of nominees, our Soap Superstar category allows readers to put forward their own suggestions of who they feel deserves to be honoured.
'The past 12 months have been an epic time in soap, and I can't wait to see who the readers of Inside Soap have decided to crown their favourites this year.'
2025 also sees the return of the Best Exit category, paying tribute to those characters who've either met tragic ends, or moved on to pastures new this year.
'Sadly, we've had to say goodbye to some truly beloved soap characters over the past 12 months,' Sarah said.
''Who didn't cry their eyes out at Martin's shock death during EastEnders' live episode?
'And we're still not over poor Craig's tragic demise in Corrie, or the loss of Leyla and Amy in the devastating Emmerdale limo crash. But it's up to the fans which exit will get their vote.'
Voting for the Inside Soap Awards 2025 opens at midday on Tuesday, July 8, and winners will be announced at a star-studded ceremony in London this September.
Fans can vote online by visiting www.insidesoap.co.uk/awards or by filling in the voting form in the Inside Soap magazine.
The move comes after it was revealed earlier this year how ITV bosses are slashing their soaps' episode count.
Emmerdale currently airs six episodes weekly, Monday to Friday with a double bill on Thursdays.
Meanwhile, Coronation Street also airs six episodes per week, with two episodes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Next year, only five 30-minute episodes of each show will air - a real terms cut to soap broadcast time of 17%.
Bosses will introduce a soaps power hour from Monday to Friday with 30-minute Emmerdale episodes airing at 8pm and 30-minute Coronation Street episodes airing at 8:30pm.
However, the start of the new 2026 schedule will at least be marked in style, as both soaps embark on an ambitious, never-before-seen stunt as part of a week of special episodes.
Defending the changes, ITV's Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo said: 'The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led.
'We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them, in the most digestible way.'
'In a world where there is so much competition for viewers' time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.'
Over on the BBC, fans can watch new episodes of EastEnders from 6am on iPlayer before they're broadcast that evening on BBC One.

This Morning's Emma Willis baffled as 'dinosaur egg' bought at car boot worth thousands

This Morning host Emma Willis was left speechless after finding out the whopping price of a guest's unusual item This Morning's Emma Willis was left speechless after an expert revealed the price of what was believed to be a dinosaur egg. ‌ During Thursday's (August 7) episode of the ITV hit daytime chat show, Emma Willis and Joel Dommett stepped up to the plate to present while Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard are on their summer break. ‌ And with car boot season in full swing, the duo were joined by pawnbroker Dan Hatfield, who was on hand to help viewers sort their trash and treasure. ‌ However it was one viewer's bizarre item that left Emma speechless after finding out the eye-watering valuation. This Morning viewer Susan appeared on the show via a video link and shared her 'unusual' item. Speaking to the hosts and Dan she said she believed she had a dinosaur egg that was passed on to her from her grandmother, who found the unique item at a car boot sale. ‌ A picture of the egg appeared on the screen, Joel was baffled as he asked: 'What is this, what is that?' Everyone burst out laughing as Dan jumped in: 'Joel is very confused.' The expert then joked: 'It kind of looks like a gone off jacket potato.' Joel replied: 'It doesn't look that great.' The TV presenter was not convinced that it was really a dinosaur egg as he asked: 'A dinosaur egg, who has a dinosaur egg. Do you think it's a dinosaur egg?' ‌ Emma jumped in: 'I mean I really want it to be.' Joel was keen to find out more as he asked Susan: 'So what is this?' Susan began to doubt herself as she replied: 'I don't really know but I wish I did know more. We've just grown up calling it a dinosaur egg.' ‌ Unsure of how much the egg was originally purchased for, Susan was keen to find out how much it could be worth today. Dan admitted: 'I can't tell for sure if this is a dinosaur egg without looking at it in person but does it have the signs of an egg, well it's in shape and brown like a fossil. I really want it to be and I believe it is a dinosaur egg.' The pawnbroker then left host Emma lost for words as he revealed: 'I bet good money on this being a dinosaur egg, in fact I bet about £2,000 on this being a dinosaur egg because that's how much they're worth.' A baffled Emma replied: 'I think the diversity of the things we cover on the show but this has left me... I don't know what to say, I literally don't.' Joel added: 'I think we need to get exclusive evidence if this is real or not so I think you need to go away Susan and get it scanned.'

Helen Flanagan's solo holiday with daughter who she 'can't give the energy' to

Helen Flanagan has headed off on holiday with her daughter Matilda, just weeks after admitting she can't give her the 'energy' that she wishes she could share with her Helen Flanagan has jetted abroad with her daughter, just weeks after explaining she can't give Matilda the "energy" she deserves. Just last month, the former Coronation Street actress explained she was always "preoccupied" with her son, Charlie, and believed that Matilda, nine, had been left out. ‌ But now, the 35-year-old has made time to spend with her daughter, with the pair jetting off to Italy to spend some quality time with one another. Helen, who found fame playing Rosie Webster on the ITV soap opera, took to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday to share a snap of the pair sitting in the airport, while she sipped on an orange juice, as her daughter enjoyed a hot chocolate. ‌ A later snap saw young Matilda kicking back on board an aeroplane as she flashed a peace sign, with Helen captioning her upload: "My love and happiness." It comes after pictures emerged of inside Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash's luxurious £30k family holiday at 'second home'. ‌ The former soap star explained how Matilda had "always been" her "best friend" due to her being the oldest child, at the age of nine. The trip comes as Helen is celebrating her 35th birthday, with the mother and daughter "dancing" into her big day throughout the night. As she made the most of their downtime, Helen told fans that it had "always" been her and Matilda as they soaked up the Italian sun and culture during their excursions. ‌ But while the trip is for Helen and her daughter, she did make sure to check in with her two younger children, Delilah, six, and son Charlie, four, as she shared screenshots from their FaceTime call. It comes after Helen took to social media to reflect on her motherhood journey, admitting she has found it "hard" recently. She said: "I've felt overwhelmed and stressed the majority of the time, and I want to get back to when im present and I'm really in it and I'm really enjoying it. I always wanted to be a mum. [sic] ‌ "I get mum guilt with Matilda as I feel like I'm always preoccupied with her brother, I can't give her the energy that I want to give her, and I feel like she always sees me at my worst. I also feel like she needs calm, which I can never be. Delilah, I feel like I'm getting it right with her, and I feel like our bond is tight, so that's something not to beat myself up about." Helen continued: "Charlie I could pull my hair out sometimes, I feel like I've got the male version of me. Co-parenting is hard and not being a team together, and not being able to talk about your anxieties and worries for the kids. "I suppose you can only do your best and be kind to yourself, but I wanted these on my grid for me as they make my soul happy." Despite Helen's concerns, fans were quick to compliment the star. "Juggling 3 kids is a super power I'm sure. U got this strong momma," said one. A second continued: "It's not easy with three! But you seem like you're doing an amazing job." This Morning's Ashley James responded: "Helen. You are the BEST mum. Kids are so lucky to have you. Usually when I feel short and snappy, I know it's time for a childfree break, even just a day to lie in and recharge and not talk to anyone! If that's possible at the moment."

First edition of The Hobbit sells for €49,000

A 'rare' first edition of JRR Tolkien book The Hobbit discovered during a house clearance in Bristol has sold at auction for £43,000 (€49,000). It is one of only 1,500 copies printed in September 1937, according to auction house Auctioneum, and was sold to a UK-based private collector at an auction held in Bath. Advertisement Caitlin Riley, book specialist at Auctioneum, said: 'It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are. 'House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome – if ever there is a good advert for our service, it's this! This could have so easily been sent to landfill or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there. It really is a lucky survivor! Caitlin Riley with The Hobbit book (Auctioneum Ltd/PA) 'The result just goes to show the pure love for Tolkien's work. Written nearly 90 years ago, it's amazing how relevant and popular it still is. 'People still want the escape; they want to delve into a fantastical world and discover new characters. Some people are clearly willing to pay large sums for the privilege. Advertisement 'Much like the tale within the covers – selling this has been a real adventure. 'We've had hundreds of inquiries from all around the world and whilst we were expecting a certain amount of interest, we weren't quite expecting this much! It's a wonderful result, for a very special book.' Including buyer's premium, which is an additional charge that the winning bidder must pay on top of the hammer price, the book totalled £52,000 (€59,000). The book sold for £43,000 (Auctioneum Ltd/PA) It was discovered in the family library of Hubert Priestley, a famous botanist in the 1930s and brother to Antarctic explorer and geologist Sir Raymond Edward Priestley. Advertisement The auction house said Priestley and Tolkien both shared mutual correspondence with author CS Lewis, as well as strong connections to the University of Oxford, meaning it is likely both men knew each other. Ms Riley said: 'To think that just a few weeks ago this book was sat undiscovered on a bookshelf in a Bristol house, and has gone on to make headlines around the world, is quite incredible. 'It's the connection to Tolkien and the important provenance that makes this book so special. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance.' The Hobbit, a children's fantasy novel published in 1937, follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is joined by wizard Gandalf and the 13 dwarves of Thorin's Company in a bid to win their treasure from dragon Smaug. Advertisement Peter Jackson directed the film trilogy, which starred Martin Freeman as titular hobbit Bilbo.
