A-road closed to refurbish 'end of life' crossing
Roadworks lasting two weeks are under way to refurbish a pedestrian crossing which has "hit the end of its design life".
Work on the crossing on A346 Herd Street in Marlborough, Wiltshire, started on Monday and the road is closed until Saturday to turn it into a puffin crossing.
Wiltshire Council said a full road closure will make sure road workers are safe.
Councillor Nick Holder, cabinet member for highways, said they "apologise for any inconvenience this may cause".
The first week will involve BT installing infrastructure needing a full closure.
During the second week, temporary traffic signals and a temporary pedestrian crossing will be in place between 09:30 GMT and 14:30 GMT.
The council added a new traffic signal post will be installed and the paving will be replaced.
Mr Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "It's crucial that we upgrade and refurbish pedestrian crossings as they're a key part of our highways infrastructure, helping to keep all road users safe.
"We have a comprehensive traffic signal refurbishment programme in place to help us monitor when traffic signals hit the end of their design life and the crossing on Herd Street meets this criteria."

Perhaps the most notable feature of the Rivian R2 is its size. Claimed to be a true SUV, rather than a crossover, the modest-yet-ample sizing of the Rivian R2 reminds us of a popular segment of SUVs that, into the late-2000s and early-2010s, saw most of its models morph into softer, less-rugged crossovers, such as the Jeep Cherokee, the Ford Explorer, and the Chevrolet Blazer. Road closed 'for some time' after lorry overturns
Drivers have been urged to take alternative routes after a lorry overturned on a country road in Nottinghamshire. Emergency services were called to the incident in Tithby Road, near Bingham, at 05:15 BST on Monday. Bingham Fire Station said the road was closed in both directions between the A52 and Langar and is not expected to reopen for "some time" while the HGV is recovered.
