‘Every daughter-in-law is my beloved sister': Deputy CM Eknath Shinde launches ‘Dowry-Free Maharashtra' campaign
Shinde formally launched the anti-dowry drive, and unveiled the campaign's official logo during the Shiv Sena's 59th Foundation Day event held in Worli.
The deputy CM said the Shiv Sena Mahila Aghadi will implement the Dowry-Free Maharashtra campaign across the state.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of the death of Vaishnavi Hagawane in Pune, allegedly due to dowry harassment.
According to the police, Vaishnavi Hagawane allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws' house in the Pune district on May 16.
Shinde said that after Hagawane's death, the entire state of Maharashtra was shaken.
'From now on, every daughter-in-law of Maharashtra is my beloved sister. The campaign will kick start from Anand Ashram in Thane, and will be expanded across the state through the Sena shakhas. Every Sena shakha will now be the first maternal home for our beloved daughters-in-law who are facing dowry-related harassment. Our Mahila Aghadi will ensure those who harass our sisters are dealt with firmly,' Shinde said.
He said that to prevent dowry-related deaths, the Sena's women's wing will reach every corner of Maharashtra, and fight for the rights of women who are being harassed for dowry.
It will provide legal support, drive public awareness, and deliver justice for dowry‑harassed women.
The NCP (SP), led by party MP Supriya Sule, has also launched a statewide anti‑dowry campaign called 'Dowry‑Free, Violence‑Free Maharashtra.'
It's set to begin Sunday, June 22, and run for a full year, aiming to cultivate cross-party unity and lasting awareness against dowry and harassment of women.

Oppn protests kirtan singer's threat to Thorat
Pune: Opposition members stood in support of senior Congress member Balasaheb Thorat after kirtan singer Sangram Bhandare allegedly said he would take Nathuram Godse's path against the former minister even as BJP and Shiv Sena sided with him. Thorat slammed Bhandare's remarks on Tuesday. He told reporters in Ahilyanagar: "I am not Mahatma Gandhi, but I will be happy to sacrifice my life for my ideology. This behaviour does not suit a person who claims to be from the warkari community." The problem flared up last week following two kirtan sessions by Bhandare in Sangamner tehsil. Thorat and his supporters claimed that in the first session, Bhandare made political statements in support of BJP members, including cabinet minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil — an arch-rival of Thorat. In the second session, Thorat's supporters objected to certain comments made by the singer. This led to a ruckus. Later, Bhandare recorded a video warning Thorat that he would act like Nathuram Godse if the former minister indulged in politics of religion. State Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal said, "Bhandare has given an open threat to Thorat and the BJP-led govt is supporting him. Working president Supriya Sule said, "The warkari community preaches spirituality and harmony. However, some people are misusing the platform to make violent remarks. I request the state home minister to take cognisance of the threat and take action." Mahayuti members blamed Thorat for the incident. Shiv Sena MLA Amol Khatal, who defeated Thorat in Sangamner, said, "Bhandare came to Sangamner for kirtan. He has his own style of performing where he preaches about Hindutva. On the said day, he also mentioned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb. Thorat's supporters created a ruckus and tried to attack him. We will not tolerate such behaviour against kirtan singers. Raut demands probe against Shirsat for ‘giving away' forest land
Mumbai: A day after NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar accused Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat of a Rs 5,000-crore land scam when the latter was chairperson of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) under chief minister Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah demanding a probe. Raut said nearly 4,078 acres of forest land were illegally transferred to a family known as Bivalkars by CIDCO. Raut demanded that Shinde and Shirsat be sacked from the cabinet, a case be registered, and an investigation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Rohit had alleged that despite the proposal being repeatedly rejected in the past, Shirsat facilitated the return of 150 acres of prime land in and around Navi Mumbai to the Bivalkars. Shirsat is currently social justice minister. He was appointed CIDCO chairman in Sept 2024 and his appointment terminated in Jan 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Operation Sindoor for India's security and took the initiative to include Maharashtra's forts in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the lawmakers said. Under the leadership of Shiv Sena's parliamentary leader Dr Shrikant Shinde, the MPs met the Prime Minister to congratulate and appreciate his efforts. They also extended best wishes for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. In turn, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the work of all Shiv Sena MPs. On behalf of the Shiv Sena parliamentary party, the MPs expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for this historic achievement. The forts included in the list are Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, along with Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu. Their inclusion reflects the expanse of Maratha heritage. These forts, stretching from hilltops to coastal outposts, are remarkable examples of Maratha territorial divisions and defence planning. The MPs said this decision will highlight Maharashtra's rich heritage and instil new pride and consciousness about history among the youth. It will ensure the preservation of the forts, boost tourism, and turn them into significant research sites. Maharashtra's economy will also gain fresh impetus, they added. The Prime Minister has called upon citizens across the country to visit these forts and learn about the glorious history of the Maratha Empire.
