Suspects sought after abducted Cambridge man dies in Guelph crash: OPP
Wellington OPP is searching for five suspects after a Cambridge man, who died in a crash in Guelph, was believed to be kidnapped from a residence and assaulted prior to the collision.
Police said the incident unfolded on May 14, at approximately 6 p.m., when officers responded to a crash involving two vehicles on the southbound Hanlon Parkway, north of Stone Road.
The Cambridge man, 40, was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Through investigation, officers learned the man was abducted from a residence on Fife Road and assaulted. Police believe it was an isolated incident.
The five suspects, police said, fled in two different vehicles.
The first vehicle is a grey 2010 Toyota Venza SUV with Ontario licence plate CVBX 602. The second vehicle is a white 2013 Dodge RAM pickup truck with Ontario licence plate BZ 85153.
Police are asking residents and businesses in the area to review their security camera footage and share any relevant images or videos with the OPP. Drivers who were in the area at the time are also asked to check their dash cams for any footage that may show the collision or suspect vehicles.

OPP lay charges against 5 GTA men after $2.3M in contraband tobacco seized
More than $2.3 million in contraband tobacco has been seized and five GTA men charged following a 16-month-long OPP investigation. In January 2024, the OPP Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Team (CTET) began a probe into the suspected trafficking of contraband tobacco, including shisha tobacco and contraband cigarettes, by a GTA network. On July 4, 2024, CTET executed three search warrants in the GTA that led to the seizure of more than 800 kilos of shisha tobacco, more than 16,000 contraband cigarettes, and $30,000 in Canadian currency. The tobacco seized has an estimated street value of more than $90,000. On Oct. 24, 2024, 16 search warrants were executed in Brantford, Burlington, Mississauga, Vaughan and Scarborough and about 19,000 kilos of contraband tobacco, valued at $2.3 million, was seized, as well as electronic devices. Ali Mallah, 58, of Toronto, was arrested in November 2024 and charged with trafficking contraband tobacco. In April of this year, four more individuals — Omar Omran, 25, of Scarborough, Nael Alwarasaneh, 36, of Burlington, and Abdelrahman Hasan, 28, and Saif Hasan, 20, both of Brantford — were charged with trafficking contraband tobacco. 36 men charged with 128 offences as part of child sex exploitation investigation, OPP says
Ontario Provincial Police say they have arrested and charged 36 men with a combined total of 128 offences as part of a child sexual exploitation investigation. The accused range in age from 18 to 73, the OPP said in a news release on Thursday. Police said investigators used undercover techniques to access online chat rooms and social media applications to identify, locate and arrest people looking to sexually exploit children. "These results highlight a sobering reality: predators can easily reach children in online spaces," OPP Det. Staff Sgt. Tim Brown said in the release. "We urge parents and guardians to remain vigilant and to talk to your children about staying safe online. Just as you wouldn't leave your child alone in a city, don't let them navigate the online world alone." The OPP described the operation as a "luring investigation." That means officers posed as children online and waited for people to make contact. Nine victims were identified. Police said the victims were provided with support and are safe. One of the accused arrived at a meeting location with snacks, while another arrived with lubricant and condoms, police said. One of the arrested men was listed on the National Sex Offender Registry. Police said 51 investigations are continuing. According to the OPP, 21 police forces from what is known as the Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Strategy took part in the investigation from March 31 to April 11. Police said police forces involved in the provincial strategy have noted a rise in reports of online child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse material in recent years. The provincial strategy is made up of the Ontario Provincial Police Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, 26 municipal police forces, Ontario's ministry of the attorney general and the ministry of the solicitor general.

Miami Gardens crash during rush hour leaves one person dead, police say
A major crash in Miami Gardens left a person dead Thursday afternoon, police say. Just before 4 p.m., a Dodge Ram pick-up truck was driving up Northwest 22nd Avenue when, for unknown reasons, it collided with an unoccupied parked car in the 2100 block of Northwest 165 Street, Miami Gardens police said. The pick-up truck overturned and then hit another unoccupied park car, trapping the truck's owner inside. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the driver, who was not identified, dead at the scene.
