Following his debut four years ago in the Disney+ subscription-exclusive series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Carl Lumbly's Isaiah Bradley returned for the 2025 movie release of Captain America: Brave New World. Unfortunately, the Korean War veteran enhanced with super soldier serum was made an unwitting pawn of Samuel Sterns' schemes, having been brainwashed into attempting to assassinate President Thaddeus Ross. While Isaiah is still in peak physical condition at such an advanced age thanks to the serum coursing through his veins, Lumbly informed me that the running aspect of his big action sequence took quite the toll on him from an emotional standpoint.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the actor on behalf of Captain America: Brave New World's Digital release, with the Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD rollout set for May 13. During our conversation, I asked him what the most difficult or challenging part of shooting the White House action sequence, and he started off telling me:
Running. That would be my simple answer. Because in many ways, and I'm not trying to be funny about this, he couldn't run fast enough even with super serum in his system. There's no way to outrun the reality that he's living in. So something about coming to and realizing that he had perpetrated something that he had no idea what he had done, but he knew that he was right back where he had been so often in his experience with this country. He was being accused of something that he did not do, he was accused of thinking things that he did not think, and he was locked away with himself once again, not knowing what his fate would be, having his life in the hands of other people.
Remember that Isaiah Bradley was thrown in prison for defying orders and going behind enemy lines to rescue some fellow Black super soldiers during the Korean War. He was experimented on by the US government and HYDRA for 30 years, and the only reason it wasn't longer was because a nurse faked his death and managed to smuggle him out. So for him to be thrown in prison yet again for actions he wasn't in control of was emotionally devastating. Like Carl Lumbly said, no amount of running was going to fix the horrible situation he'd been forced into.
The good news for Isaiah, however, was that he had Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson in his corner during Brave New World. As Lumbly laid out for me, the new Captain America's differing perspective on life compared to Isaiah's meant he had the drive to prove his friend's innocence, whereas Isaiah had resigned himself to spending the rest of his life in prison. As the actor put it:
It just happens that in this instance, his life is in the hands of the best person he could hope for, Sam Wilson, Captain America. And the world in which Sam operates is very different from the world in which Isaiah operated. Sam has agency and capabilities and assumptions and expectations that Isaiah has not dared have, but seeing that it's possible has to affect his thinking. So it's beyond the fact that Sam can save him. It's that Sam can operate in a world that looks completely like madness to Isaiah, but Sam can operate there. And maybe if Sam can, perhaps Isaiah can too.

As is often the case with these Marvel movies, good won out in the end. Sam Wilson, Joaquin Torres and their allies exposed Samuel Sterns' crimes, and after Ross' rampage as Red Hulk was stopped, Isaiah Bradley was freed. It's hard to say if we'll see Carl Lumbly reprise Isaiah in another upcoming Marvel movie or upcoming Marvel TV show, but I'd like to think that Sam's actions will indeed affect him and push him towards being more open with the world.
With Captain America: Brave New World out of the way, the next Marvel movie on the docket is Thunderbolts*, which arrives on May 2. One month later, you can see Carl Lumbly back on the big screen starring opposite Tom Hiddleston in Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck.

James Cameron Teases Unexpected Animated Avatar Project

James Cameron wants to make an animated project. Cameron directed both films in the live-action Avatar franchise, 2009's Avatar and 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, thus far. The third movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is also directed by Cameron and arrives in United States theaters this coming December. What did James Cameron say about an animated Avatar project? Speaking with Empire Magazine, Cameron confirmed that he's spoken to Disney, which owns 20th Century Studios, about potentially doing an Avatar animated project. He explained, 'I said, 'Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that's essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn't have expected from that world.' There might even be an animated feature in there – it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature. A good early example is The Animatrix, where they went afield in the Matrix world. These are all great examples for how we can add texture and baroque detail to the world of Avatar.' Cameron further noted that these animated stories could explore 'backstory on characters and tangential stuff that happened off-camera within the movies. Who first landed on Pandora? The first expedition. You could go anywhere you want.' The project, however, hasn't yet materialized into anything. 'We haven't done much with that yet,' Cameron said. 'We're still gathering our stories and that sort of thing, and I've got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it.' In the meantime, Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives on December 19, 2025. It stars Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman, Edi Falco as General Frances Ardmore, and more. Will Hannah Montana hit the road in 2026? Miley Cyrus teases show's 20th anniversary plans

Miley Cyrus is down for a Hannah Montanaissance. So, will fans get to see their favorite fictional pop star in concert? The Grammy-winning singer, who broke out in the 2000s playing teen idol Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom of the same name, reflected on the series' upcoming 20th anniversary in a July 22 interview on SiriusXM. "Hannah Montana," which starred Cyrus alongside Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso and father Billy Ray Cyrus, debuted in March 2006. "I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this," Cyrus, 32, said. "Without Hannah, there wouldn't really be this me. "It's crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought was going to be impossible to shed, and now that's something that when I walk into a space, it's looked at as this sense of kind of, like, nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood. ... So, that's exciting to get to celebrate that." The Emmy-nominated series, which centered on the double life of schoolgirl Miley Stewart and her stage persona Hannah, launched Cyrus to IRL music stardom. The show spawned multiple platinum-selling soundtracks, as well as the headlining Best of Both Worlds Tour, which grossed over $54 million. The teen comedy also served as a vehicle for Cyrus' burgeoning pop music career. Her debut album, 2007's "Meet Miley Cyrus," was released as a double album alongside the "Hannah Montana 2" soundtrack. In August 2024, Cyrus and Hannah made Disney history when Cyrus was inducted into the Disney Legends hall of fame, becoming the youngest person to receive the honor. During her emotional acceptance speech, Cyrus joked that "there was a buzz in that Burbank Disney office, where it's rumored that they create all of us Disney Kids." "Much has changed since that day, but at the same time, nothing has changed at all," Cyrus added. "I stand here still proud to have been in 'Hannah Montana.' This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans. To quote the legend herself, 'This is the life.' " Miley Cyrus makes Disney history: 'Hannah Montana' star becomes youngest Disney Legend Will there be a Hannah Montana tour in 2026? So far, Cyrus has not announced plans to embark on a concert tour for the "Hannah Montana" 20th anniversary. While exact anniversary plans remain under wraps, a tour seems unlikely, given Cyrus' recent comments on touring. During a May 2023 interview with British Vogue, Cyrus — whose last world tour was the 2014 Bangerz Tour — said she had no desire to go on tour. The "Something Beautiful" singer added that while she enjoys performing for her friends, "singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn't really the thing that I love." "There's no connection. There's no safety," Cyrus explained. "It's also not natural. It's so isolating because if you're in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone." 'It's so isolating': Miley Cyrus says she 'can't' tour any longer What has Miley Cyrus said about 'Hannah Montana' role? Over the years, Cyrus has shared her conflicting feelings about her "Hannah Montana" character and the emotional complications that came with early fame. During a March 2021 interview on "Rock This with Allison Hagendorf," the actress-singer described her childhood stardom as a time that made her feel inadequate when she wasn't in character, revealing she created a "characterized version" of herself to receive attention. "Talk about an identity crisis. ... The concept of the show is that when you're this character (and) when you have this alter ego, you're valuable," Cyrus said at the time. "And then the concept was that when I looked like myself, when I didn't have the wig on anymore, that no one cared about me." Miley Cyrus pays tribute to 'alter ego' Hannah Montana for show's anniversary That same month, Cyrus embraced the character's pop culture legacy in a social media tribute for the "Hannah Montana" series' 15th anniversary. "We've shared many firsts. A lot of lasts. Ups. Downs. Tears (and) laughs," Cyrus wrote to her TV alter ego. "You have all my love (and) upmost gratitude," Cyrus continued. "I am indebted not only to you Hannah but to any (and) everyone who believed in me from the beginning. You all have my loyalty (and) deepest appreciation until the end. With all sincerity I say thank you!" Contributing: Jenna Ryu, Elise Brisco, Bryan Alexander and Naledi Ushe, USA TODAY

Donkey Kong Bananza players have managed to blow it wide open in less than a week, and the speedrun potential is bananas: "It's wild how much of the game you can bypass with the right tricks"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Donkey Kong Bananza players are pushing the game's speedrunning potential to its limits. It hasn't even been a week yet, and already someone has figured out how to get to the endgame without unlocking over half of the Bananza transformations. Super Mario Odyssey showed that Nintendo EPD Tokyo has the sauce to create some incredible speedrunning games thanks to their in-depth movement systems; and players were showing that off on day one of Donkey Kong Bananza with a skip for the Canyon Layer being discovered. The game features five Bananza transformations that let DK take on the form of a superpowered beast, and the abilities gained through these are integral for completing their specific areas… at least they're meant to be. Spoilers for the final Bananza transformations and a screenshot of an endgame area follow. In the time since Bananza's launch, it's gotten even more intense, as now players have discovered it's technically possible to beat Donkey Kong Bananza without unlocking a number of the Bananza transformations. In a post on Reddit, a user has posted a thread titled "The amount of sequence breaks in this game is crazy" alongside a screenshot of Pauline and DK hanging out in the Planet Core Layer. However, upon closer inspection, the screenshot reveals that they only have the first Bananza transformation (Kong) and the second-to-last one (Elephant) displayed on their HUD. The amout of sequence breaks in this game is crazy from r/donkeykong "Just did a second run of DK Bananza trying to skip as much content as possible and I ended up unlocking only 2 Bananzas in the entire game." The user said, "It's wild how much of the game you can bypass with the right tricks. There are also entire layers you can skip. It's a really fun and surprisingly strategic way to experience the game differently." While this wasn't a speedrun, it definitely shows off the potential of what Donkey Kong Bananza speedruns could be with this much of the game able to be casually bypassed. I'm sure someone will find a way to skip other Bananza's at this rate. Granted, the final area of the game seems pretty much impossible without these, as there's one segment that requires the Zebra Bananza to reach the final boss, but I'm sure that'll be figured out in no time, too. Donkey Kong Bananza credits reignite a popular Mario Kart World fan theory that the beloved gorilla is getting his own expansion in the Switch 2 racer.
