Is his future already in doubt? Do the Pittsburgh Steelers need to already start making plans for beyond the 2025 season at the QB position?

Maybe so.
Rodgers' career is winding down, and he made that perfectly clear this week, revealing on "The Pat McAfee Show" that his first year with the Steelers will also be his last.
So ... at the risk of getting way ahead of ourselves, in a way, that means the Steelers - should they choose to be forward-thinking - are as we've put it "on the clock'' for 2026.
Pittsburgh has been here before; 2025 QBs Russell Wilson and Justin Fields were temporary placeholders.
And now? Rodgers is so clearly temporary that one Pittsburgh insider is looking to map out the future.
ESPN's Steelers beat writer Brooke Pryor tabbed Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray as a player who could be on the Steelers' future radar.

"Trading for a starting quarterback is rarer these days, and expensive, but not impossible,'' Pryor writes. The Steelers could first look at former first-round picks who haven't played up to their expected potential.''
The tipped name? Arizona's Kyler Murray.
Pryor is, again, talking about a post-2025 trade ... and also noted are the dollars involved. Murray's cap hits in 2026 and 2027 are problematic at $53.2 million and $43.5 million.
"But,'' Pryor writes, "they could be massaged and restructured."
Murray enters his seventh year in the NFL, and at age 27, is a dynamic runner but an erratic passer. He is not considered by most to be "a $50 million QB.''

This is best considered, at this time, as a "thought experiment.'' What will Pittsburgh do in 2026? Who is available? Can 2025 rookie Will Howard solve this in-house?
For now, the Steelers will ride Rodgers ... one more time.
And then in 2026 comes yet another do-over.
