DWU women's NAIA Tournament game postponed due to wild fires
DWU was supposed to play The Master's University at 8 p.m. in Oklahoma on Friday night, however wild fires in the area forced a change.
The Great Plain Athletic Conference posted an update on X around 8:04 p.m. Friday.
'The DWU women's basketball game in Langston, Oklahoma will not happen tonight, because of wild fires in the area. All the teams are safe and evacuating. More to come. Stay tuned and pray for the firefighters and emergency personnel in this area to keep this under control,' the GPAC said on X.
DWU Director of Athletics Ross Cimpl posted an update on X at 9:59 p.m. Friday.

Cimpl said that everyone is safe at the hotel and as of that moment, there was no additional concern.
Dakota Wesleyan will now play The Master's on Saturday at 5 p.m. If they win, the second round game will be Sunday at 3 p.m.

Jamal Gibson back at HBCU after committing to Division I
The unlikely story of Jamal Gibson has once again shocked the college basketball world. The standout forward is flipping from a Division I school back to an HBCU. A Change of Plans Earlier this year, Gibson-two-time Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year in the HBCU Athletic Conference-committed to the University of New Orleans (UNO). He had announced his transfer portal entry via Instagram, followed days later by a post revealing his commitment to UNO with two years of eligibility left. That plan has now changed. On Wednesday afternoon, the Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) men's basketball team posted on Instagram that Gibson had committed to their NAIA program. XULA is a cross-town rival of Gibson's former school, Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). Dominance at first HBCU Gibson made an immediate impact at SUNO during the 2023–2024 season. Despite being a 26-year-old rookie with no prior organized basketball experience, the 6-foot-8 forward dominated the NAIA level. In his freshman season, he averaged 21 points and 15.8 rebounds per game. He led the nation in total rebounds and set program records for points (579), rebounds (453), and double-doubles (27) in a single season. Gibson continued his dominant performance into 2024–2025. He logged his 43rd consecutive double-double with 26 points and 20 rebounds against Wilberforce University. He earned multiple conference and national honors and reclaimed his Player of the Year awards on both ends of the court. The UNO Factor Master P, a New Orleans icon, became UNO's President of Basketball Operations in February. Gibson was considered a major pickup for the program. "As a kid growing up in New Orleans, I can honestly say that basketball changed and saved my life," Miller said. "At that time, UNO was one of the best programs in the country. It was all about Privateer Nation, and there was so much excitement on the Lakefront. As President of Basketball Operations, I am committed to bringing back that winning tradition to NOLA's Team." HBCU bound again Instead of suiting up for a Division I team, Gibson will now join a strong XULA squad that finished 20–10 last season and earned a spot in the NAIA Tournament. Storm Center PM Update: Severe Weather Chances Return
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It has been a warmer day for KELOLAND with much more sunshine. We got the chance to dry out East River after significant rainfall over the last few days. We aren't quite done with the unsettled weather though as an incoming trough will bring the chance for thunderstorms late this afternoon and through the overnight hours. A majority of KELOLAND is in a slight risk for severe weather and all hazards are possible with any supercell storms that fire up. Make sure to stay weather aware and keep an eye out on our social media pages for updates. The recent model outputs shows scattered thunderstorms in North Dakota potentially forming a line and moving southeast, the main threat would then shift towards severe wind gusts. There is a chance the line could clip northeastern KELOLAND overnight. Besides the thunderstorm chances, most of us will see partly cloudy skies with lows in the 60s. Going into tomorrow, the heat will become more widespread with highs in the 80s and 90s. Dew point values will be in the 60s and 70s East River, this means heat index values could be close to the triple digits. Overall, it will be a quiet day and the atmosphere will try to recharge. As a cold front moves through, there will be more energy for thunderstorms to form during the evening. The conditions will likely form storms in clusters and the activity West River will move into East River overnight. Another slight risk of severe weather is in store for most of KELOLAND with the main hazards being damaging wind gusts and hail. We will take a break from rain chances at the beginning of next week as a high pressure system settles in.
