DWU women's NAIA Tournament game postponed due to wild fires
LANGSTON, OK (KELO) — The Dakota Wesleyan women's first round NAIA Tournament game was postponed from Friday to Saturday, due to wild fires in the area.
DWU was supposed to play The Master's University at 8 p.m. in Oklahoma on Friday night, however wild fires in the area forced a change.
The Great Plain Athletic Conference posted an update on X around 8:04 p.m. Friday.
'The DWU women's basketball game in Langston, Oklahoma will not happen tonight, because of wild fires in the area. All the teams are safe and evacuating. More to come. Stay tuned and pray for the firefighters and emergency personnel in this area to keep this under control,' the GPAC said on X.
DWU Director of Athletics Ross Cimpl posted an update on X at 9:59 p.m. Friday.

Cimpl said that everyone is safe at the hotel and as of that moment, there was no additional concern.
Dakota Wesleyan will now play The Master's on Saturday at 5 p.m. If they win, the second round game will be Sunday at 3 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The rain and floods of June 2024 were historic for South Dakota. One year later, as KELOLAND heads into a week of consistent rain showers and thunderstorms, meteorologist Brian Karstens clears the air about flood concerns. Karstens said the June 2024 rainfall was 'blockbuster' rain. Back then, Karstens said the KELOLAND area saw flooding in the third week of June, bringing damage and clean-up efforts to many communities. According to a KELOLAND 2024 weather recap, many of these flooded communities, like Rock Valley and McCook Lake, saw 12-18 inches of rainfall just from June 20-22. TenHaken wants drivers to 'feel the urge to zipper merge' But one year later, we're not looking at that much rain, Karstens said. But he cautions the possibility of local flash flooding, due to the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. 'Basically, you look at the parameters and how the water stacked in the air, and it's going up,' Karstens said. 'It definitely goes up normally this time of year. We expect into mid-June that you're going to just start to see that rich humidity making its presence known, so always be aware of that.' Karstens said to always take flash flood warnings seriously. 'If we do get some downpours tonight, even tomorrow, even next week, I think that's just a general thing to think about as we get into the forecast,' Karstens said. ‘Greats of the Game' event to debut at Sanford International
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sanford Sports announced a new event featuring two golf legends and two Pro Football Hall of Fame members. Sir Nick Faldo, Andy North, Cris Carter and Ronde Barber will be part in the inaugural event. The 'Greats of the Game' will be a nine hole event, played on Saturday, September 13 at the Sanford International. 'We have been eager to bring back a special on-course event for the fans during the Saturday of the Sanford International, and this lineup of athletes and format is the perfect fit,' said Davis Trosin, tournament director of the Sanford International. 'Andy is the quintessential ambassador of the game, and we are excited to welcome Sir Nick, Cris and Rondé to Sioux Falls for an event that will bring a new level of excitement to tournament weekend.' Faldo is a six time major championship winner who has 43 professional wins on his resume, including three Masters Tournament victories.
