Amaal Mallik's girlfriend dumped him because of his ‘Muslim background', asked him to gatecrash her wedding: ‘There is not even I of Islam in me'

Indian Express3 days ago
Amaal Mallik has been quite expressive about his hardships and personal life ever since he announced his estrangement from his family. Later, he admitted in an interview that they have solved their differences. He shared that he had a lot of unresolved issues with his parents, and was emotionally disturbed because of their constant comparisons between him and his brother, Armaan Mallick. A lot of his resentment also stemmed from the breakup he experienced. He said that his former partner left him because of his 'Muslim identity' and his association with the film industry
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal Mallik shared, 'This is the first time when I am talking about my relationship in the open. But, I think now it's time.' He said it all happened around the same time when he was working on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Hindi film debut, Kabir Singh. 'Working on Kabir Singh was the biggest heartbreak for me. It was because I was going through a very difficult phase emotionally. The girl I was in a relationship with at that point in time married someone else.'
Explaining the reason behind the tragic end to his relationship, Amaal revealed, 'We were in relationship from 2014 to 2019. But her parents were against my religion and career. They didn't want to associate their daughter with anyone from this industry. I was about to perform a gig when she called me and said she is getting married, but she would elope if I came to her. But, I guess the SRK from DDLJ in me woke up and said, 'No, if your parents can't accept my religion and respect my career, then I wish you the best.''

'That entire incident broke me,' he said, adding, 'People have this understanding that I am a Muslim. But, the truth is that I have a Muslim father. Whereas, my mom is a Saraswat Brahmin Hindu. I go to Mt Mary in Bandra when feeling empty. We are spiritual. We believe in God, but we don't fear God. There is no 'kattar' anything. In my relationship, their problem was more with the industry than our religion. They were Jaats. They were like you are from Islamic background. I was like there is not even I of Islam in me. I don't follow the religion to the T. I am the least religious guy. I believe in Karma. We neutrally respect every religion.'
Amaal, however, believes it all happened for the best. 'For me to take that understanding that someone is judging me on the basis of my surname or what I am in Bollywood–I was like, 'Good I didn't associate with them because they are not my kind of people.' I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run. I need broad-minded people. Now, I don't miss her. Our story has come a long way. Post that, I went on several dates but things never worked out with anybody. My lifestyle is my problem. However, I do feel lonely at times.'
The breakup hit differently as, around the same time, he felt betrayed by the industry. He recounted, 'It was through that pain that I had created music for Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh. Within 20 minutes, we finalised 6 songs. But, due to heavy politics against me, I was just reduced to one song. That too because Sandeep fought for me. Not that betrayals don't happen anymore in this industry, but back then it took a heavy toll on me because I was also going through a bad break-up.'

Their romance bloomed during a turbulent period in Kabir 's life, he and his first wife, Protima Bedi, were in an open marriage, with both finding love elsewhere. While Protima was involved with a French man, Kabir found comfort in Parveen's company. 'Mujhe jana pada waha se. I was very sad, par mujhe is baat ki tasali thi ki financially vo settled thi. Unke pass ek makaan tha, ek career shuru kar rakha tha as an interior designer. And she was not wanting for anything,' he shared. 'Ek saal baad vo guzari toh mujhe wakayi bahut dukh hua. Mai janta tha ki kitna usne saha hoga, jhela hoga, suffer kiya hoga.' ‘Hand-wrote 900 pages, Netflix ghosted me' reveals Anurag Kashyap, calls it his biggest heartbreak

Anurag Kashyap never shies away from highlighting problems in the film industry. The filmmaker has been very vocal about all important issues throughout his career. In a recent interview, the Gangs of Wasseypur director talked about how he was dying to do a Maximum City adaptation, but it got stuck. Anurag Kashyap revealed that he hand-wrote a 900-page script of the Maximum City adaptation for over one and a half years. However, he hasn't received any response from the Netflix team to date. Kashyap expressed, 'I had invested over one and a half years in Maximum City. I handwrite my scripts. I handwrote 900 pages. So when you put so much effort into a project, and for others it's just a matter of… like you can't evaluate that in money. Somebody just to save their jobs puts it aside and ghosts you… It breaks you.' Known for several popular Hindi movies, Anurag Kashyap revealed how Netflix ghosted him. 'It was supposed to be a Netflix project, and they ghosted me. They didn't even dare to walk up to me and tell me that 'we are having a problem. Can we solve it?' or even 'We are not doing it.' They didn't have the courage. I don't know if they can bring it back. There's a whole policy. I don't understand it," he added. Anurag Kashyap claims Ted Sarandos didn't know India Anurag underlined that this behavior of Netflix India team angrers him the most. He said that it was his years of emotional investment but they didn't consider to say no. The filmmaker further stated that it's the reason why he fell sick. While referring to his social media post for Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Kashyap claimed that he doesn't even understand India. 'I wrote about Ted Sarandos; he does not understand India. What the India office tells them, they believe that bulls**t. They are doing exactly what bad television was doing to India. And they are charging money for it. They don't understand why they are losing value in the country," the actor concluded. On the work front, Anurag Kashyap recently served as the executive producer of Stolen. He has multiple films in the pipeline, including Kennedy, Nisanchi, and a film with Bobby Deol. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
