Their relationship spanned from 2014 to 2019, but Amaal revealed that her parents were never on board — objecting to both his Muslim heritage and his connection to the film industry. He said, 'They didn't want their daughter to be associated with someone from Bollywood. They were Jaats and said, 'You're from an Islamic background.' I was like, there's not even an 'I' of Islam in me." Amaal, whose father is Muslim and mother is a Saraswat Brahmin Hindu, clarified that his family has always believed in spirituality over strict religious dogma. 'We go to Mt Mary when we feel empty. We believe in God but we don't fear God. There's no 'kattar' anything in us. In fact, their problem was more with the industry than religion." What stung more, however, was the prejudice. 'To be judged based on my surname or the fact that I'm part of Bollywood — I knew then that these were not my kind of people. I need broad-minded people. I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run." Amaal Mallik recently sparked a wave of reactions online after sharing that he had emotionally stepped away from his family. Amaal Mallik recently shared a deeply personal account of the hardships he has faced, highlighting a painful breakup and professional challenges during the making of 'Kabir Singh'. His candid conversation reveals how he navigated emotional turmoil and began his journey toward healing. For the first time, Amaal spoke openly about these struggles. Amaal Mallik opened up about some tough times he has faced recently. He talked about a painful breakup caused by unfair treatment and a difficult experience while working on the film ' Kabir Singh '. This honest conversation shows how he has dealt with pain and started to heal. First Time Sharing His Personal Story In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal opened up about his personal life for the first time. He revealed that his heartbreak happened during the period he was working on Kabir Singh, which surprisingly turned into one of his most emotionally intense creative phases. Reflecting on the painful experience, he said, 'The girl I was in a relationship with at that point in time married someone else. I was about to perform a gig when she called and said she's getting married but would elope if I came to her. " Choosing Dignity Over Impulse Although she begged him, Amaal decided to prioritize his self-respect rather than act on emotion. He shared, 'I guess the SRK from DDLJ in me woke up and said, 'No, if your parents can't accept my religion and respect my career, then I wish you the best.'" Parental Objections and Prejudice Mallik's relationship lasted from 2014 to 2019, but he revealed that his partner's parents never accepted him due to his Muslim background and his career in Bollywood. He said, 'They didn't want their daughter to be associated with someone from Bollywood. They were Jaats and said, 'You're from an Islamic background.' I was like, there's not even an 'I' of Islam in me." A Family Guided by Spirituality Coming from a mixed religious family—with a Muslim father and a Saraswat Brahmin Hindu mother—Amaal emphasized that spirituality, not strict religious rules, guides his family. He added, 'We go to Mt Mary when we feel empty. We believe in God but we don't fear God. There's no 'kattar' anything in us. In fact, their problem was more with the industry than religion. To be judged based on my surname or the fact that I'm part of Bollywood — I knew then that these were not my kind of people. I need broad-minded people. I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run." Heartbreak as a Blessing in Disguise Looking back, Amaal considers his heartbreak a hidden blessing. He said, 'Now, I don't miss her. That chapter's long gone. I've been on dates since, but nothing's worked. My lifestyle is my problem. I do feel lonely at times, though." Professional Setbacks During 'Kabir Singh' During this challenging phase, he also faced disappointment professionally. Amaal poured his heart into Kabir Singh, creating six songs in just 20 minutes with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga , yet only one made it to the final film. He said, 'There was heavy politics. I was reduced to one song, and that too because Sandeep fought for me. Not that betrayals don't happen anymore — but back then, I was already heartbroken. It hit me hard." Seeking Peace Despite everything, Amaal has grown reflective and resilient, seeking inner peace rather than fame. 'We neutrally respect every religion. I believe in karma. That's what guides me now," he mentioned.

Amaal Mallik REVEALS Ex-Girlfriend Left Him Over His ‘Muslim Surname': 'I Was Judged...'

Last Updated: Amaal Mallik reveals his ex left him over his Muslim identity and Bollywood background. He recalls heartbreak, religious prejudice, and being judged for his surname. Amaal Mallik is no stranger to vulnerability. In a rare and deeply personal conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the singer-composer peeled back the layers of pain, heartbreak, and healing that have shaped his recent years — from a broken relationship marred by prejudice to a bitter industry experience during Kabir Singh. 'This is the first time I'm talking about my relationship in the open," Amaal shared, explaining that the heartbreak coincided with the time he was working on Kabir Singh, which ironically became one of his most emotionally raw creative phases. 'The girl I was in a relationship with at that point in time married someone else. I was about to perform a gig when she called and said she's getting married but would elope if I came to her." Despite the plea, Amaal says he chose dignity over impulse. 'I guess the SRK from DDLJ in me woke up and said, 'No, if your parents can't accept my religion and respect my career, then I wish you the best.'" Their relationship spanned from 2014 to 2019, but Amaal revealed that her parents were never on board — objecting to both his Muslim heritage and his connection to the film industry. 'They didn't want their daughter to be associated with someone from Bollywood. They were Jaats and said, 'You're from an Islamic background.' I was like, there's not even an 'I' of Islam in me." 'To be judged based on my surname or the fact that I'm part of Bollywood — I knew then that these were not my kind of people. I need broad-minded people. I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run." Looking back, Amaal feels the heartbreak was a blessing in disguise. 'Now, I don't miss her. That chapter's long gone. I've been on dates since, but nothing's worked. My lifestyle is my problem. I do feel lonely at times, though." The same period was also marked by professional disillusionment. Amaal recalled pouring his soul into Kabir Singh, composing six songs in just 20 minutes during a jam session with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. But only one song made it to the final cut. 'There was heavy politics. I was reduced to one song, and that too because Sandeep fought for me. Not that betrayals don't happen anymore — but back then, I was already heartbroken. It hit me hard." Through it all, Amaal has emerged introspective but strong. A man seeking not applause, but peace. 'We neutrally respect every religion. I believe in karma. That's what guides me now." Amaal Mallik's girlfriend dumped him because of his ‘Muslim background', asked him to gatecrash her wedding: ‘There is not even I of Islam in me'

Amaal Mallik has been quite expressive about his hardships and personal life ever since he announced his estrangement from his family. Later, he admitted in an interview that they have solved their differences. He shared that he had a lot of unresolved issues with his parents, and was emotionally disturbed because of their constant comparisons between him and his brother, Armaan Mallick. A lot of his resentment also stemmed from the breakup he experienced. He said that his former partner left him because of his 'Muslim identity' and his association with the film industry In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal Mallik shared, 'This is the first time when I am talking about my relationship in the open. But, I think now it's time.' He said it all happened around the same time when he was working on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Hindi film debut, Kabir Singh. 'Working on Kabir Singh was the biggest heartbreak for me. It was because I was going through a very difficult phase emotionally. The girl I was in a relationship with at that point in time married someone else.' Explaining the reason behind the tragic end to his relationship, Amaal revealed, 'We were in relationship from 2014 to 2019. But her parents were against my religion and career. They didn't want to associate their daughter with anyone from this industry. I was about to perform a gig when she called me and said she is getting married, but she would elope if I came to her. But, I guess the SRK from DDLJ in me woke up and said, 'No, if your parents can't accept my religion and respect my career, then I wish you the best.'' But, the truth is that I have a Muslim father. Whereas, my mom is a Saraswat Brahmin Hindu. I go to Mt Mary in Bandra when feeling empty. We are spiritual. We believe in God, but we don't fear God. There is no 'kattar' anything. In my relationship, their problem was more with the industry than our religion. They were Jaats. They were like you are from Islamic background. I was like there is not even I of Islam in me. I don't follow the religion to the T. I am the least religious guy. I believe in Karma. We neutrally respect every religion.' Amaal, however, believes it all happened for the best. 'For me to take that understanding that someone is judging me on the basis of my surname or what I am in Bollywood–I was like, 'Good I didn't associate with them because they are not my kind of people.' I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run. I need broad-minded people. Now, I don't miss her. Our story has come a long way. Post that, I went on several dates but things never worked out with anybody. My lifestyle is my problem. However, I do feel lonely at times.' The breakup hit differently as, around the same time, he felt betrayed by the industry. He recounted, 'It was through that pain that I had created music for Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh. Within 20 minutes, we finalised 6 songs. But, due to heavy politics against me, I was just reduced to one song. That too because Sandeep fought for me. Not that betrayals don't happen anymore in this industry, but back then it took a heavy toll on me because I was also going through a bad break-up.'
