Amaal Mallik says one of his past relationships ended over his Muslim surname: "They didn't want their daughter to be associated with..."
Amaal Mallik
opened up about some tough times he has faced recently. He talked about a painful breakup caused by unfair treatment and a difficult experience while working on the film '
Kabir Singh
'. This honest conversation shows how he has dealt with pain and started to heal.
First Time Sharing His Personal Story
In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal opened up about his personal life for the first time. He revealed that his heartbreak happened during the period he was working on Kabir Singh, which surprisingly turned into one of his most emotionally intense creative phases. Reflecting on the painful experience, he said, 'The girl I was in a relationship with at that point in time married someone else.
I was about to perform a gig when she called and said she's getting married but would elope if I came to her.
"
Choosing Dignity Over Impulse
Although she begged him, Amaal decided to prioritize his self-respect rather than act on emotion. He shared, 'I guess the SRK from DDLJ in me woke up and said, 'No, if your parents can't accept my religion and respect my career, then I wish you the best.'"
Parental Objections and Prejudice
Mallik's relationship lasted from 2014 to 2019, but he revealed that his partner's parents never accepted him due to his Muslim background and his career in Bollywood.
He said, 'They didn't want their daughter to be associated with someone from Bollywood. They were Jaats and said, 'You're from an Islamic background.' I was like, there's not even an 'I' of Islam in me."
A Family Guided by Spirituality
Coming from a mixed religious family—with a Muslim father and a Saraswat Brahmin Hindu mother—Amaal emphasized that spirituality, not strict religious rules, guides his family. He added, 'We go to Mt Mary when we feel empty.
We believe in God but we don't fear God. There's no 'kattar' anything in us. In fact, their problem was more with the industry than religion. To be judged based on my surname or the fact that I'm part of Bollywood — I knew then that these were not my kind of people.
I need broad-minded people. I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run."
Heartbreak as a Blessing in Disguise
Looking back, Amaal considers his heartbreak a hidden blessing.
He said, 'Now, I don't miss her. That chapter's long gone. I've been on dates since, but nothing's worked. My lifestyle is my problem. I do feel lonely at times, though."
Professional Setbacks During 'Kabir Singh'
During this challenging phase, he also faced disappointment professionally. Amaal poured his heart into Kabir Singh, creating six songs in just 20 minutes with director
Sandeep Reddy Vanga
, yet only one made it to the final film. He said, 'There was heavy politics. I was reduced to one song, and that too because Sandeep fought for me. Not that betrayals don't happen anymore — but back then, I was already heartbroken. It hit me hard."
Seeking Peace
Despite everything, Amaal has grown reflective and resilient, seeking inner peace rather than fame. 'We neutrally respect every religion. I believe in karma. That's what guides me now," he mentioned.

'That sh*t was crazy': Adin Ross breaks silence on family backlash after supporting Palestine live on stream
(Image via @adinross/Instagram) Streaming star Adin Ross is back in the headlines, this time not for his wild Kick broadcasts or viral collabs, but for something far more personal. The 24-year-old creator has revealed that his family and inner circle are upset with him after he publicly voiced support for Palestine, leading to an online wave of debate, division, and yes, another Adin moment going viral. Adin Ross sparks conversation with keffiyeh and 'Free Palestine' message It all started during a recent livestream where Adin was casually unboxing fan mail from his P.O. box. Among the usual mix of memes and merch was something that immediately changed the tone: a keffiyeh and a Palestinian flag. Without hesitation, Adin wrapped the scarf around his neck and declared on-stream: 'Free Palestine. I stand with my people. Everyone in my chat, I stand with y'all.' The moment instantly became one of the most talked-about clips from the stream. Fans flooded the chat with praise, while some others were visibly stunned. But what really caught Adin off guard was the reaction outside the stream. 'Very mad at me right now': Adin opens up about the backlash On a follow-up stream just over a week later, Adin opened up about the aftermath, revealing that some of the strongest reactions weren't from strangers on the internet, but from people who've known him his whole life. 'You guys know… family, friends, very mad at me right now for the Palestinian scarf,' he said. 'They saw the clip of me holding it up. So mad at me. I'm not even joking, bro. That sh*t was crazy.' Adin, who is of Jewish background, admitted that the criticism stung. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If the Cat Bites You, Here's What It Really Means. Weird Cat Behavior Explained Undo He didn't name anyone directly but made it clear that the reaction felt disproportionate. Not a one-time message While the keffiyeh moment might've made the most noise, it wasn't a standalone gesture. Over the past year, Adin has repeatedly expressed solidarity with Palestinian and Muslim communities. Earlier this summer, in a now-resurfaced stream with fellow creator N3on, Adin said: 'You all matter… Yes, I'm Jewish. I take accountability for them. It's f**ked up. I'm sorry.' He's also encouraged creators like Adam Saleh to represent Palestine on bigger stages, telling the YouTuber-boxer: 'I want you to walk out with a Palestinian flag. I want you to rep whatever you want.' Politics, identity, and platform pressure With 7+ million followers across platforms and a highly reactive fanbase, Adin Ross knows that his words carry weight. But the latest controversy shows that not all backlash comes from the public; sometimes, it starts at home. Still, Ross isn't backing down. While acknowledging the tension, he maintained his stance on peace and empathy. For now, Adin's scarf moment continues to ripple beyond his stream, a mix of support, criticism, and complicated conversations that go way beyond the screen. Saiyaara worldwide box office: Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda's film enters Rs 500 crore club, just Rs 36 crore shy of beating Pathaan's record
There seems to be no stopping Saiyaara, the Mohit Suri-directed romantic musical that has catapulted debutants Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday into overnight stardom. As the film continues to soar at the box office, it crossed a significant milestone on Monday, grossing Rs 507 crore worldwide in just 18 days, making it one of the fastest entries into the Rs 500 crore club in recent memory. With this, Saiyaara has become Mohit Suri's first film to enter the Rs 500 crore club, and Ahaan and Aneet are now the first debutants in Indian cinema history to headline a film that has achieved this benchmark. Additionally, the film has officially become the highest-grossing love story in the history of Indian cinema, overtaking Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh, which had a lifetime collection of Rs 368 crore. According to a press release issued by Yash Raj Films, in its 18-day run, Saiyaara has grossed Rs 376 crore at the domestic box office, with an additional Rs 131 crore from overseas markets, bringing its total to Rs 507 crore. It is now the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, behind Chhaava, which has earned Rs 807.91 crore worldwide. Also Read | In Saiyaara's final act, Mohit Suri channels the best of Aditya Chopra's brand of romance #Saiyaara found a home in your hearts – and we couldn't be more thankful. ❤️ In cinemas now, watch it today! | #AhaanPanday | #AneetPadda | @mohit11481 | #AkshayeWidhani — Yash Raj Films (@yrf) August 5, 2025 With this, Saiyaara has also surpassed the lifetime earnings of previous YRF blockbusters such as Hrithik Roshan's War (Rs 471 crore) and Salman Khan's Tiger 3 (Rs 464 crore). It has even outperformed Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki, which earned Rs 454 crore globally. The film is just Rs 36 crore shy of crossing Pathaan's worldwide collections. The film's unexpected dominance has sent shockwaves across the industry. From its strong opening day numbers to its consistent performance over the weeks, Saiyaara has defied expectations, especially from industry insiders who initially underestimated its potential. Veteran film journalist Komal Nahta recently shared an anecdote during a chat with YouTuber Faridoon Shahryar that revealed the kind of impact Saiyaara is having within Bollywood circles. He said, 'Even an established star can become insecure because of a newcomer. They have to remember that they were also newcomers once upon a time; they shouldn't be nervous, there's enough space for everyone. I was at Bhushan Kumar's party, and one of his stars asked me about Saiyaara. I told him that it's a blockbuster. He got up and left.' Multiple factors have contributed to the film's extraordinary success. One of the key elements has been the return of a pure, intense, old-school romantic drama, a genre the current generation has been longing for. The fresh pairing of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda has strongly resonated with audiences. Notably, producer Aditya Chopra's decision to keep the lead pair away from media exposure before the film's release played a critical role in building intrigue and relatability, allowing viewers to discover them for the first time on the big screen. Reacting to the film's historic success, Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani said in a statement, 'The success of Saiyaara, a pure love story, once again proves that the romance genre is probably the one to get most love from the audience if we give them the right film to cherish and endorse. We are humbled with this success story, and it fuels us to look for the next film that can break out and make India proud globally.'
