Chennithala flags ‘irregularities' in Anert tender
He also demanded the immediate removal of Anert CEO and called for a forensic audit of the agency's transactions over the past five years.
For the fourth consecutive day, Mr. Chennithala released documents alleging misuse of power in tendering process and posed nine questions to Mr. Krishnankutty.
'The Minister cannot remain a mute spectator. This is not a private matter but one involving public money,' he told mediapersons in Kannur on Sunday. 'I made the allegation in public and any explanation must be given publicly and not behind closed doors with the Chief Minister,' he added.
He alleged that a tender worth ₹240 crore was floated illegally despite the CEO's limit being ₹5 crore. 'How did the CEO get the authority? On whose order was this tender floated? If we get the answer to that, the real players behind the corruption will be exposed,' Mr. Chennithala said, adding that documents related to the tenders are in his possession.
He further claimed that the CEO, a temporary employee and consultancy firm EY were at the centre of irregularites. A contract employees allegedly hired for the just 89 days, handled tender bids that should have been processed by the Finance department.
This is a Swapna Suresh model appointment. The nexus involving the CEO, consultant and Minister's office is clear.' he alleged.
'Destruction of evidence'
Mr. Chennithala also claimed that Anert's Finance department was deliberately kept in the dark. 'Since my revelations massive file destruction has begun inside Anert. Corruption evidence is being wiped out under the CEO's and consulting firm's leadership,' he alleged.
Initially, the Minister said that the matter is being investigated by Electricity Secretary and a report will be submitted within 15 days. Later, the Minister told reporters said that since the Secretrary was not available, the Anert CEO himself will investigate and submit a report.
He alleged that a ₹100-crore scam was perpetrated under the PM KUSUM solar scheme. It is a scheme for farmers, with 30% funding from the Centre, 30% from the State and the rest contributed by farmers.
The government decided to borrow from NABARD due to insufficient funds.
'Without the knowledge of the Electricity Minister, how can such a massive decisions be taken? The responsibility lies with him too,' he said.
He demanded that the Assembly constitute a committee to probe the allegations and called for a forensic audit by an independent agency. 'The CEO must be removed immediately to prevent further destruction of evidence,' Mr. Chennithala said.
Responding to the allegations that Youth Congress workers collected funds through an app for the rehabilitation of people affected in Mundakayi, Wayanad, he hit back at the State government alleging a lack of transparency and accountability on its part in the utilisation of funds collected for the rehabilitation of people.
Naveen Babu's death
On the death of ADM Naveen Babu, Mr. Chennithala alleged that there has been a continuous effort to protect former district panchayat P.P. Divya.
'From the start the government machinery has tried to shield her. That is why the family had to approach the Supreme Court,' he said.

Timing & motive: Opposition sees more than illness in Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation, alleges deeper political rift
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's abrupt resignation on the first day of the Monsoon Session on Monday has sent significant ripples through India's Parliamentary system and drawn a flurry of political responses, particularly from the country's singlest largest Opposition party - the Congress. While Dhankhar cited health reasons in his letter to President Droupadi Murmu, several Opposition leaders took to social media platform X to raise questions about the true motivations behind his exit—pointing to possible political undercurrents and deepening institutional tensions. While, he commended Dhankar's commitment to procedural propriety, he also noted "there are far deeper reasons" for the move. — Jairam_Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) Congress MP Mallu Ravi expressed doubts over the official explanation, calling the resignation an outcome of 'political ill-health.' He speculated that Dhankhar's exit may be linked to the BJP's strategy ahead of the Bihar elections. 'Perhaps the BJP government wanted to appoint someone more useful in the current political landscape,' he said. Live Events "Now in a truly unprecedented move, Shri Jagdeep Dhankar has resigned. He has given health reasons for doing so. Those should be respected. But it is also a fact that there are far deeper reasons for his resignation," he wrote in his X post. Meanwhile, Congress leader Udit Raj also hinted at political motives behind the timing, especially in light of the anticipated discussions in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament. "There are several important issues like the Operation Sindoor matter and the voter list in Bihar... Jagdeep Dhankhar's presence is essential for all these matters. I also find it a bit strange. Was this done to avoid these issues? I am not questioning Dhankhar ji's health, but still, we will not let go of these issues and will continue to raise questions... I wish for Jagdeep Dhankhar's good health," the Congress leader wrote. Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha, on the other hand, questioned if Dhankhar's assertive handling of impeachment motions against Justices Yadav and Verma could have led to pressure from within the ruling establishment. "Vice President VP Dhankhar's resignation quite unexpected !! While presiding over Rajya Sabha yesterday he was his good jolly self !! Did the way he pro actively handle the 2 impeachment motions ( Justice Yadav & Verma ) yesterday the last straw," Tankha said in a separate X post. Congress MP Imraan Masood echoed disbelief, stating: 'He was in Parliament the entire day. What happened in just one hour that he had to resign?' In another scathing attack on the BJP, Gaurav Pandhi, Secretary of the AICC suggested Dhankhar's loyalty to the Prime Minister over the Constitution led to his downfall. 'He walked in like a Modi Megaphone and slipped out like he was on a WhatsApp chat. Just left the chat—or forced to?' he wrote. Wider Opposition: Disbelief, doubt, & defiance But Congress is not alone in voicing its shock over the VP's decision to exit mid-term. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi pushed back against portrayals of Dhankhar as impartial. 'Let's not forget that the Opposition had to move a no-confidence motion against the Chair for his partisan conduct,' she reminded. — priyankac19 (@priyankac19) Additionally, JMM MP Mahua Maji called the resignation 'shocking,' stating that Dhankhar had shown no signs of stepping down and had delivered a full day of proceedings. "This is very shocking news, especially for the opposition parties... Today in the House, we didn't feel that he was going to resign today itself... He also said many other important things... Some people are unable to digest this matter. There are speculations that there may be another reason behind it... We all want him to reconsider this decision," Majhi said. Mixed emotions: Well-wishes & wariness While criticism of the circumstances surrounding Dhankhar's resignation dominated the Opposition's responses, many leaders also conveyed good wishes for his health. Congress veteran P. Chidambaram joined others in expressing hope for Dhankhar's full recovery. Samajwadi Party MP Javed Ali Khan also took a less offensive stance and said, 'Virtue! Even if a resignation is taken, it is only said to have been given. By the way, I wish for the complete recovery of Mr. Dhankhar.' A day of sudden developments Jairam Ramesh, in his second post on the matter, outlined the timeline of the day that ended with the unprecedented move. He wrote that on July 21, just hours before his resignation, Dhankhar chaired two meetings of the Rajya Sabha's Business Advisory Committee (BAC). The first, at 12:30 PM, included top leaders such as Leader of the House JP Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. A follow-up meeting scheduled for 4:30 PM, however, saw both senior ministers absent—reportedly without informing the Vice President. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

V S Achuthanandan: The defeat that shaped a mass leader
ALAPPUZHA: In the political history of Kerala, the defeat of veteran communist leader V S Achuthanandan in the 1996 assembly election is written in black letters. Once considered a CPM's chief ministerial candidate, VS' unexpected loss in Mararikulam constituency became a turning point, not just in his career, but also in his personal life. VS was defeated by Congress candidate P J Francis by a slender margin of 1,965 votes, a result that sent shockwaves through Kerala's political circles. It was more than just a surprise loss, it was the fallout of a bitter factional feud that had gripped the CPM at the time. On one side stood the CITU-backed lobby led by then Chief Minister E K Nayanar, and on the other, the Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union (KSKTU)-led faction under VS himself. The internal rift ran deep, and it played out publicly in the polls. In Mararikulam, considered a fortress of the left, cross-voting by disillusioned party workers, particularly those aligned the with CITU, sealed his defeat. Ironically, even Francis never imagined he would win. In an interview given to this paper years later, Francis recalled how reluctant he had been to contest. 'No one in the Congress wanted to stand against Achuthanandan,' he said. 'It was A K Antony who compelled me to contest. I had already lost twice before – to K R Gouri in Aroor. Mararikulam was a communist stronghold. I never thought I would win.' A soft-spoken politician from Convent Square in Alappuzha, Francis passed away last month, but his unexpected triumph over a communist giant sealed his legacy – as one etched in Kerala's political history. The 1996 defeat humanised VS. From a rigid ideologue, he began evolving into a more empathetic, accessible leader. The Mararikulam debacle was the beginning of a new VS, one who stood not just as a party leader, but a symbol of the people's fight for justice and dignity.

Shivakumar flays BJP over GST notices, urges withdrawal
Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has strongly criticised the BJP for issuing GST notices to small traders, saying, 'The BJP is trying to rub the banana peel on our nose after eating the banana themselves.' He made these remarks while speaking to the media near his residence in Sadashivanagar on Monday. Shivakumar clarified that the Central BJP government had, in 2019, set the annual turnover limit at ₹40 lakh and had directed all state governments to comply with this rule. 'The BJP should withdraw these harassing measures. Small traders including vegetable vendors, fruit sellers, tender coconut sellers, and flower sellers are now being targeted. Over 14,000 traders have already received notices,' he stated. He further added that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had earlier voiced strong opposition to the GST structure, and that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would be holding discussions with officials to explore ways to help the affected people. When asked if the state government would write to the Centre, Shivakumar confirmed, 'Definitely. Ours is the state that pays the highest GST in the country. Yet, our small and middle-class traders are being harassed. Justice must be ensured.' Responding to the PIL filed regarding the formation of five new municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), he said, 'Anyone can raise objections – that's their right. If there are any mistakes, we'll rectify them. The government is committed to forming five municipal corporations in Bengaluru. We have already discussed the matter with BJP leaders and formed a Joint Legislative Committee. People can continue to submit their objections if they wish, but many are doing it for political reasons. We are doing this in Bengaluru's interest.' He also mentioned that a press conference will be held in the next couple of days to provide clarity on matters like A Khata, B Khata, e-Khata campaigns, tax reforms, and civic administration plans. When questioned about the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), Shivakumar said, 'There are both supporters and critics of the SIT decision. The Home Minister is handling the matter and senior officials have been appointed to the SIT. The truth will come out after a thorough investigation.' Reacting to the opposition's claims that the SIT was formed to divert attention, he said, 'Whatever we do, the BJP finds a reason to oppose it. The media amplified the issue, and we respect the media's role in a democracy. Ensuring justice is a shared responsibility between the government and the press.' He confirmed that he and the Chief Minister will visit Delhi on July 25 and said that he does not have more details regarding Congress leader Randeep Surjewala's visit.
