Horti dept offers 50% subsidy on solar pumps for Mysuru, Chamarajanagar farmers

Mysuru: The horticulture department has introduced a 50% subsidy on solar-powered irrigation pumps for growers in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. Under the scheme, Rs 1 lakh will be provided for a 3 HP solar pump and Rs 3 lakh for a 5 HP pump. The initiative not only reduces operational costs, but also promotes sustainable irrigation over diesel or grid-powered systems. Farmers cultivating horticulture crops in their fields can apply for the scheme without the condition of having drip irrigation and sprinkler systems installed to avail themselves of the benefit. The department has given preference to small and marginal farmers in the first phase and plans to extend the scheme to others later. To obtain this benefit for the installation of solar pumps from the horticulture department, farmers must submit a written affidavit certified by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, stating that they did not benefit from KREDL and did not avail themselves of the benefit from the PM KUSUM scheme. Both Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts have set a target of distribution for 213 farmers in the twin districts after identifying the beneficiaries taluk-wise in the 2025-26 financial year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo To avail themselves of the subsidy benefit from the horticulture department for the installation of solar pumps, farmers must obtain prior work order permission from the office of the deputy director of horticulture after submitting an application with their taluk assistant director of horticulture, Chamarajanagar deputy director of horticulture Shivarprasad told TOI. Farmers must install solar pumps after purchasing them from a certified company from the state energy department at their own cost, then claim the subsidy amount after full installation from the department, he said. He mentioned that apart from providing a 50% subsidy for the installation of solar pumps, his department has also provided a 75% subsidy to encourage honeybee farming for general category farmers and a 90% subsidy for SC/ST farmers. Speaking to TOI, deputy director of horticulture of Mysuru district, Manjunath Angadi said that the department has already given instructions to all taluk assistant directors of horticulture to start identifying the beneficiaries to avail themselves of the subsidy benefit for the installation of solar pumps in their horticulture fields and start distributing subsidies after the completion of installation. The department has decided to encourage farmers to adopt such renewable energy solutions by installing solar pumps. This scheme is entirely different from the PM Kusum scheme, he said.

Farming meets solar in U.P's clean energy drive

In a significant step towards promoting clean energy, Uttar Pradesh has issued letters of agreement (LoAs) to over 100 developers for establishing solar power plants with a combined capacity of more than 1,527 MW aimed at supplying solar power to agriculture feeders. These solar power plants will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyaan (PM KUSUM) C-2 scheme. The initiative targets solarisation of approximately 5,000 agriculture feeders, ensuring eight hours of uninterrupted daytime power supply to tubewells/pump-sets for irrigation. The UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has already segregated around 80% of the agriculture feeders from the domestic ones for assured and reliable power supply for fixed eight hours for irrigation. 'The UP government has fixed the target of generating 2,000 MW of solar power under KUSUM C-2 by 2027 and against it we have already issued LoAs for more than 1,51,527.2 MW of solar power to over 100 developers who will set up solar plants adjacent to the identified sub-stations catering to separate agriculture feeders,' UPNEDA secretary and chief project officer, Pankaj Singh said. The UPPCL will procure the solar power generated under the scheme for 25 years for ₹2.99 per unit, ensuring stable revenue for developers and long-term income for farmers. 'The scheme provides an opportunity for farmers and landowners to lease barren or unutilised land to solar power developers under pre-fixed agreements. UPNEDA has developed a dedicated online portal where interested farmers can register their land free of cost for leasing. Solar plants can be set up within a 5-10 km radius of identified substations, requiring around four acres per megawatt of capacity,' project officer Rakesh Agrawal said. The financial framework for developers includes a maximum central assistance of ₹1.05 lakh per MW and a state government grant of ₹50 lakh per MW as Viability Gap Funding, totaling ₹1.55 crore per MW. Under the scheme, farmers/ group of farmers/ panchayat / cooperative / Farmer Producers Organization (FPO) and project developers can participate in the tender. Also, under the scheme, farmer's land near the selected substations is to be leased by the selected Solar Power Project Developer for 27 years at a mutually agreed lease rent which will ensure a steady income for the farmers. 'For farmers, the scheme ensures a steady income through land lease payments and reliable daytime solar power for irrigation. Developers benefit from access to land, guaranteed power purchase agreements, and government incentives. DISCOMs gain access to affordable solar power, reducing power purchase costs and AT&C losses, 'Agrawal explained. The developers selected through a competitive bidding process will have six months' time to set up the plant at the identified sites from the date of the letter of agreement.

Naidu requests Centre to set up defence projects in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that Andhra Pradesh would be developed as a green energy hub in India. He discussed the energy and defence-related projects undertaken in the State with the Union Ministers in New Delhi on Friday. Addressing the media in New Delhi after meeting several Union Ministers on Friday, Mr. Naidu said he congratulated Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the success of Operation Sindoor. The Defence Minister briefed him on the strategic plan needed for the State to become a hub for defence manufacturing and aerospace innovation. The State has requested cooperation from the Centre to study the favourable ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh for the development of integrated defence units, revival of key manufacturing units, domestic aviation programmes, testing, and training centres. With robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and proactive policies, Andhra Pradesh is ready to play a key role in the Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission, he said. 'Andhra Pradesh has proposed to develop a missile and ammunition production centre in the Jaggayyapeta–Dolakonda cluster, where 6,000 acres of land are available. In the Lepakshi–Madakasira cluster, we have proposed a centre for military and civil aircraft and electronics manufacturing. We have also suggested to set up naval experimentation centres in the Visakhapatnam–Anakapalli cluster,' Mr. Naidu said. In the Kurnool–Orvakal cluster, the Chief Minister said, a manufacturing facility for military drones, robotics, and advanced defence components has been proposed. 'We have also requested a DRDO Centre of Excellence at IIT, Tirupati. Mr Rajnath Singh has responded positively to these proposals. When we asked for a military cantonment in the State, he said the matter would be examined,' Mr. Naidu said. Mr. Naidu said that he had submitted a comprehensive proposal to Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, seeking the Union government's support to transform Andhra Pradesh into a pivotal hub for space manufacturing and innovation. The proposal outlines the development of two state-supported Space Cities—one near the ISRO SHAR spaceport and another near Lepakshi—to serve as integrated hubs for satellite production, launch vehicle development, and industry collaboration. 'With a strategic location, industrial strength, and future-ready infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh is committed to advancing India's space sector. We seek the Centre's recognition and partnership in this transformative journey,' Mr. Naidu said. Andhra Pradesh is poised to become a green energy hub, enabling 24x7 power supply through renewable sources. Under the PM KUSUM scheme, the Centre has approved the production of 2,000 MW of solar power, he added.

Collector orders swift PM Surya Ghar rollout

Kurnool: District Collector P Ranjith Basha has directed APSPDCL Superintending Engineer to expedite the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Scheme in Kurnool district. At a review meeting on PM Surya Ghar and PM KUSUM schemes held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, the Collector stressed timely progress in installations. He informed that 87,477 individuals have registered for PM Surya Ghar, including 81,390 from SC/ST categories and 6,087 from other groups. He urged swift action once APERC approvals are received for SC/ST applicants. Concerned about low installations among other categories (only 442 completed), he called for faster implementation. Under the scheme, one village per constituency has been chosen as a Model Solar Village. Six gram panchayats and Puchakayalamada (under the CM's Assurance) are part of this initiative. Although registrations are ongoing, implementation has been slow. The Collector set a target of installing rooftop solar panels in at least 100 homes per model village. He instructed secretariat staff and engineers to conduct door-to-door campaigns and involve women self-help groups to raise awareness and support installations through loans. A 2 kW solar system, worth Rs 1.4 lakh, comes with a Rs 60,000 subsidy, offering up to 20 years of free electricity. DRDA PD was asked to ensure beneficiaries are informed and supported. He also urged distribution of pamphlets in villages and prioritized solar panel installation in government employees' homes. Regarding PM KUSUM, the Collector stated tenders will be finalized by May 8 and asked officials to prepare an action plan.

Energy Minister lays stone for substation

Kandukur: Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said that the NDA government is truly a people-centric administration. During his visit to Kandukur constituency on Monday, Minister Ravikumar, along with Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and local MLA Inturi Nageswara Rao, laid the foundation stone for a 33/11 KV electrical substation in Mannetikota of Ulavapadu mandal, being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 4 crore, and inaugurated CC roads and a water head tank at Baddipudi village in the same mandal. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Gottipati explained that the substation is being built to address low-voltage issues affecting farmers in the agricultural sector. He emphasised that substations are being constructed based on load requirements to ensure neither farmers nor the general public face difficulties. He highlighted the PM Suryaghar scheme, which enables households to install solar panels on their rooftops to generate electricity, potentially reducing power problems. The Minister said that under this scheme, SC/ST communities will receive free connections while BC communities will get subsidised rates. He said that they would provide solar power through the PM KUSUM scheme in areas with substations to benefit farmers. He revealed that the government has set a target of providing 10,000 Suryaghar connections in each constituency across the state, with approvals already secured for 20 lakh connections with central government support. The Minister said that while the previous government allegedly spent nothing on road repairs during their five-year term, the coalition government has already allocated Rs 800 crore for road repairs and Rs 600 crore for repairing tar roads. He added that they have also restarted the Anna Canteens and are providing free gas cylinders as part of the 'Super Six' scheme, with other promises to be fulfilled in phases. The Minister concluded by stating that the government is encouraging investment in renewable energy projects in the Rayalaseema region, with plans to establish two solar parks in the Darsi and Kanigiri areas soon.
