Johni Broome ends NBA Summer League with 22 points versus Mavericks
The 2025 Las Vegas Summer League is wrapping up with the championship game between the Sacramento Kings and the Charlotte Hornets. Auburn fans will want to check out the final game featuring former Tigers center Dylan Cardwell playing for the Kings. A lot of curiosity also from Auburn fans was how Johni Broome would perform. Broome was drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers and a good showing in the summer could dictate his positioning on the main roster.
Broome played in seven of the 76ers games that spanned between Utah and Las Vegas. Over the course of those games, he averaged 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds. The team posted a 4-4 overall record in the eight games played. He saved his best game for last against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. In the 90-82 victory, he scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Broome was held out of the final game on Friday versus the Nets.
He closed out with two consecutive games posting a double-double. On Tuesday versus the Washington Wizards, Broome scored 14 points with 10 rebounds. A statistic that really stands out is the three-point shooting for Broome. He made 14 of 31 three-point field goals for a percentage of 45%. Against the Mavericks he connected on four from long range on 11 attempts.
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl came to show his supports to Broome and the other former Tigers at Las Vegas Summer League. When interviewed during a game he talked about Broome. 'They're getting a great teammate, a guy that wants to win, a guy that wants to compete', said Pearl in the interview. 'We would not be in the Final Four without Johni Broome,' Pearl continued. 'He represented the name on the front of the jersey, and the name on the back of the jersey. He cared about Auburn basketball.'
It will be interesting to see how Broome performs when the NBA season starts this November.

All-Star Gleyber Torres proves things can be better away from the Yankees
All-Star Gleyber Torres proves things can be better away from the Yankees originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When Gleyber Torres left the Yankees and landed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Tigers, it didn't exactly look like a free agency win. It looked like a fallback. But midway through the 2025 season, it looks more like a career reset — and a savvy one at that. Torres is headed to the All-Star Game as Detroit's starting second baseman, anchoring the infield for a team that's been baseball's biggest surprise and arguably best team. His first half numbers are eye-popping: a 130 OPS+, steady defense, and a calm confidence that's thrived far from the Bronx spotlight. As The Athletic's Jayson Stark put it in his midseason report: 'Sometimes, the smartest thing a player can do is market himself outside of the New York glare.' Torres' bet on himself is turning into a clear win. Said one American League executive to Stark, 'Gleyber has made himself the most money, right? Gleyber bet on himself with the one-year deal. And if he does this again in the second half, he's going to get paid.' Meanwhile, back in New York, the Yankees also have an All-Star second baseman. But it didn't come without drama. They had to designate DJ LeMahieu for assignment just to get Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second — the spot he was expected to play all along. For Torres, though, the story is simple: he got out, he got hot, and now he's about to get paid. Free agency 2.0 might be the windfall that last winter wasn't. And no one's questioning his value anymore. They are especially not questioning it in Detroit and they are reconsidering in the Bronx.
